I was out shopping today and was on my way to shop elsewhere when I was stopped by this dude who said he was a transfer student at Columbia University (first year). But he needed help in depositing his "check" that he received from his scholarship. Yes, I'm from New York. He showed me a pic of his negative balance on his college account (around -$1K) and kept on saying he can't deposit the check because of his negative balance, and that he needs a third party person to help him. I not really sure what he was saying and I should have said, "Nope, sorry I'm busy." But I didn't. He then asked if I could help him deposit the check at the ATM and stuff and I thought he needed help in using the machines, so I was like okay, I can help. On top of this, he was in a rush to catch the LIRR.
As we were speed walking, he kept on saying how thankful he was about my gesture and yada yada yada. And we had a nice talk about college stuff. As we got to the first Chase Bank, we walked in and he was like okay, I'll wait for you to deposit the check at the ATM. ??? I have never deposited a check at an ATM before, I only know how to take a picture of it online. But also why do I need to log into my account. I backed out and was like sorry, no can do. I got to go.
I really did try to shake him off after this. But he kept on clinging to me and saying things like, "I thought you understood what I was saying this whole time, etc." No I don't. I was so confused. He was getting frustrated. I wanted to leave and then, I did the unthinkable because he kept on pestering me. And logged onto my Chase acct while he showed me how to deposit the check, and somehow I fell for his stupid scam and ended up pressing the deposit button. Before I knew it, I was withdrawing that $ amt from my acct at a different Chase location and gave it to him in person. After he left, I went back to the Chase to report what happened, but it was too late.
I'm so ashamed, disappointed, pissed that I fell for his scam. I'm so stupid. I was told that I can't report the scam incident to Chase Customer Service until after I get the transaction statement in a couple business days. More than likely, it will bounce back. And Chase Bank said that I am more than likely to not get a refund. They also said that I should file a police report back at my local neighbor after the bounce back message.
Is anything else I could possibly do? I know I probably won't get the money back but, but maybe some suggestions would help?

3 Salient Points:
• 1. When someone is experiencing symptoms of PTSD, they are likely trapped in their reptilian brain.
• 2. Successful treatment of trauma requires bringing brain structures that were “damaged” during the traumatic experience back online.
• 3. Individuals respond to trauma in different ways and effective treatment necessitates an understanding of how an individual has been impacted.

My personal thoughts. Looking back on this chapter (I'm towards the end of the book and working on some of the various methods in it) the words I highlighted at the bottom of page 51 jump out. "Black circle." The trampolines for the 9/11 jumpers and how that did something for the traumatized boy who watched them jump. Is it possible to go through terrible memories, body feelings, panic attacks and just add trampolines? How? On the following page I highlighted how the boy used his imagination to process what he had seen. The author talks about imagination a lot as being important...one of the best parts of your thoughtful brain...something trauma harms but something that can actually heal that same trauma.
I don't know why this picture of me is on page 53 but I guess I'll let it go. It's a diagram of all of the parts of me that burn, choke, squeeze, and hurt when I have trauma-related stress. On that page I highlighted "continuing to organize your life as if the trauma were still going on" as every new encounter is "contaminated by the past." WOW. It's my feels. I never knew how very specific all of my body feelings tie into my emotions and memories before reading this book.
As the chapter goes on the author talks about the brain structure in great detail...probably more detail than you need, but fascinating...about all of the lower structures that run our body before you get to the higher functions like imagination. The brain stem and hypothalamus which controls breathing, pooping, etc.. The limbic system aka the "mammalian brain" that is the "seat of emotions, monitor of danger, judge of what is pleasurable or scary, the arbiter of what is or is not important for survival purposes. And finally, the frontal lobes that make us so unique and give us language, abstract thought, absorb and integrate information and attach meaning to it. And of course plan, reflect, imagine, and play.
On page 58 the author talks about the frontal lobes being the "seat of empathy" that allow us to "feel into" someone else. Yeah...this is something I've been struggling lately at work because a portion of my job involves a very simple task of telling people something they don't want to hear and giving them a tiny bit of empathy and I'm telling you I CAN'T DO IT. OK, I can. It's just very hard and I'm working very hard to have my brain stem shut up and my frontal lobes take over with my feelings and imagination so I can stop being scared and simply be a f---king functioning adult (please?)
Many sentences on pages 58-59 are highlighted in my book...about trauma damaging these frontal lobe functions because trauma often involves not being seen, not being mirrored, and not being taken into account. 100%. I think everyone on RBB can identify with that.
On page 60 the author talks about the smoke detector concept. Dangetrauma causes memories of sights, sounds, smells, and touch to be become isolated/dissociated fragments. Time freezes...the present danger feels like it will last forever. (Yes).
Page 62 is lovely because it talks about how our brain SHOULD function to restore our peace when our alarm bells sound. This makes me hopeful because the whole idea here is to bring that back in a way that medication may not necessarily...our bodies are designed/evolved to return to a peaceful and creative state. Your frontal lobe helps you realize you are responding to a false alarm. Our "watchtower" tells us that other people's anger and threats are functions of their emotional states. Mindfulness can use our brain and body's abilities to regulate.
Page 66 has a brain in flashback mode...how about that. It looks like a nightmare and feels like one too.
On page 69 I highlighted "scared that people hate you" and "are out to get you" because I feel like that...all of the time. At least historically I have. Getting better, I hope. On these pages I highlighted portions stating that knowing that whatever is happening is finite makes it tolerable. Situations are intolerable when they feel interminable. Being anchored in the present while revisiting trauma opens the possibility of deeply knowing that terrible events belong in the past.
The portions on "depersonalization" are heartbreaking. Is that something all of us who were raised by borderline parents feel or do, at least sometimes?
This chapter, like many others, what interesting and makes me feel hopeful but also exhausted. I have read several places online that reading this book is very hard because he talks about trauma very frankly...and I definitely feel that. I have struggled through it, figuring maybe learning will help me help others someday.
For me...learning exactly how it works, I think, will help be more committed to the methods that might work.

“The emotional brain has first dibs on interpreting incoming information. Sensory information about the environment and the body state received by the eyes, ears, touch, kinesthetic sense etc...converge on the thalamus, where it is processed and then passed on to the amygdala to interpret its emotional significance. This occurs with lightening speed. If a threat is detected the amygdala sends messages to the hypothalamus to secrete stress hormones to defend against the threat”Check out this video from Dr. Dan Siegal where he speaks about the ’low road’ and ’high road’ responses to stress, its links to triggers and dysregulation of emotions and behaviour.
“It’s important to have an efficient smoke detector: You don’t want to get caught unawares by a raging fire. But if you go into a frenzy every time you smell smoke, it becomes intensely disruptive. Yes, you need to detect whether somebody is getting upset with you, but if your amygdala goes into overdrive, you may become chronically scared that people hate you, or you may feel like they are out to get you”
“The second neural pathway, the high road, runs from the thalamus, via the hippocampus and anterior cingulate, to the prefrontal cortex, the rational brain, for a conscious and much more refined interpretation. This takes several microseconds longer. If the interpretation of threat by the amygdala is too intense, and/or filtering system from the higher areas of the brain are too weak, as often happens in PTSD, people lose control over automatic emergency response, like prolonged startle or aggressive outbursts”

2023.06.10 01:59 Professional_Art8956 Family Vacation I don't want to attend
I'm a (25f) who recently had to move back to my childhood home because NYC, where I was living, was too expensive for me to afford. I've been back since March and lucky enough I can commute into New York easily. I’ve been using the time to save money but unfortunately the company I was working for laid off a bunch of people including me, so I’m back on the job hunt. I've fully supported myself all throughout college and before moving back, only occasionally asking for support. I’ve been for the time being trying to take more babysitting shifts but I’ve been doing that since high school and at this point in my life, it feels draining working with kids. I was also a waitress and as many might know the restaurant industry is incredibly toxic. So I’m searching for jobs and my savings is now essentially non-existent. Moving back home has also not been easy. I was no contact with my parents for two years due to childhood verbal, emotional, physical abuse and neglect that continued into adulthood. There was one really scary incident during college, when I came back home to visit, involving my dad that made me concerned for my immediate safety. He was driving the car and got really mad at me. He started screaming at me and calling me horrible names and curse words while not looking at the road. We were on the highway. He would speed and stop the car fast and was being completely reckless. I begged for him to let me out the car and the only thing that stopped him fortunately, was calling a family member and putting her on speaker. He didn't want to be exposed I guess. This unfortunately was only one of many horrific incidents but it was the last straw for me. I asked my mom and sister for support after the incident and they said I was ruining the family. I then asked for space to process the trauma which made my mother really angry. I went no contact at this point because nothing I said would make her listen. She then told all my extended family and her friends that I was in an abusive relationship with a boyfriend (which I didn’t have because I was single at the time and still am now) and that I wasn’t talking to her because non-existent abusive bf was alienating me. I texted her telling her that it was a lie and I just wanted space to heal and she wouldn’t listen. I ended up forgiving my parents before moving back due to losing a grandparent and a family health scare. Things have slightly gotten better but moving back has been triggering. My dad has been a lot better and is on the right meds but my mom still has her moments of breaking me down from her words and telling me things like "my friends don't care about me," that "I'm negative energy, and she's "only telling me this because she loves me and no one else will." An extended family vacation is coming up and my mom has paid for all of it but I’ve told her I don’t want to go. I NEED to find a job and save in order to move out and I also don't know how I will make it mentally. At least here, I can escape into the city and visit friends if I need too but I’m afraid to be with family and away from anything that can support me in case of a crisis. Part of my feels guilty, she paid and it is only a week but I can't imagine enjoying myself with debt and as of now only $100 to my name on top of the fear of being triggered and feeling there is no where for me to go. I’m just not in the mental place to feel that sort of isolation. The only good thing I can think of is at least I’ll be able to explore. But I also fear anytime I spend alone would make people think im distant and uninterested in the family. My mom also told all of them I was in an imaginary abusive relationship and while it’s not true it’s hard to tell people it’s not without seeming like I'm making excuses (also incredibly frustrating). I don’t know what to do. If I had a therapist maybe I could mentally prep for this trip but I don’t have money for one. Any help or suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated or even just support. The trip is in 6 days and I'm dreading the countdown.

TLDR: I know I'm coming from a place where I never really felt accepted, and now that I have friends, I'm constantly finding myself struggling to keep up with them and my own life. I just need some tips on how to balance things or how to maybe let go of things I'm trying too hard to hold onto
Just wanted to ask for some advice, I sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in keeping up with my social connections and I truly don't know how to stop that feeling and get back to a place where maintaining these connections feel joyful again and not like an obligation that always chasing me.
Just some background, I grew up a pretty quiet person. My reservedness definitely peaked in middle school since I went to a different school than my friends. Eventually, I was able to make friends on my own, and one in particular became my best friend, which at the time meant the world to me because before then, I did not have someone like that. She meant a lot to me because I finally was able to do things I saw other people do with their friends. It kinda felt like a privilege to have her as a friend. Unfortunately, she was a bit of a difficult person to be friends with. Honestly, we had a bit of a codependent relationship where I ended up being servile, but it was a mutual situation since she had someone there to "meet" her needs and i got to have a close friend. This dynamic continued and got drastically worse as we continued into high school. She would say things to me in middle school suggesting our dynamic was like the movies where the cool kid befriends the lame kid and changed them for the better aka i was a charity case. By high school, it turned into her more outrightly demeaning me by saying a lot of things, from my body to my personality, that ate away at my confidence. Despite all this, I clung even tighter to our relationship in high school because once again, I did not have a large community of people that transferred from my middle school to our high school. Even though my friend made it seem like no one else would like me outside of her, I did try talking to new people from time to time once I was able to hype myself up for it. And through trying to reach out to people beyond folks my friend knew, I was able to make a new friend, which immediately my best friend began putting down and demeaning.
To add to the plot, my best friend and I began dating the summer before our junior year, which turned out as great as you'd imagine it to be. We ended up breaking up since the people around us, primarily her friends, made a group chat to question her and her treatment of me since she had gotten confident enough to berate me in public and talk very negatively behind my back. I found out years later that she would tell people that I'm a waste of space and worthless as a person. After our break up, she vowed never to talk to me again because I got her friends to betray her, which of course, I did not do.
Fast forwarding, after a lot of time sulking and honestly feeling the most alone I've ever felt, I tried reaching out to a few new people and managed to make a few friends on my own and forming deeper friendships with the people who were friendly to me during my tumultuous relationship. This began to create the start of some semblance of confidence and I'm still super loyal to these friends to this day. Moving into college, I really wanted to ditch the quiet act and be someone new. This definitely did not happen, but I did still attempt to reach out to others and even put effort into making plans and setting up mini events to hang with people, which I got to practice the summer before with my high school friends. In due time, even though I still felt like an inherent weirdo and super awkward, I made friends that accepted me as me and even developed a new relationship or two, slowly adding to my confidence that I might be worth a damn even though I was still in the process of learning how speak up and stand up for myself.
During the pandemic, I made it a point to keep in contact with my friends from HS and college despite time changes and how far apart we were. I took that shit very seriously, partly because I was bored and partly, because my friends gave me an escape from my homelife in some ways. My home life in gen is pretty fine, but I struggle to being myself at home which is why I moved away for college to give myself the opportunity to find out who i was on my own terms. I would have my weeks planned out with calls to various people after zoom classes and sent gifts to folks whenever my spirit called or I found out someone was sick or was going through a rough time. While all this is great, I did partly run myself into the ground trying to ensure i was on top of things in my relationships.
This gets me to this year or maybe the past two years where this feeling has increased. I'm honestly talking less to my friends than before due to changes in my life and theirs, which makes me feel guilty despite the fact that I know these relationships are two way streets and they can reach out to me too. Also, I've moved back home again and I'm back in the position where I'm trying to balance my relationship with my mom and her desires, but on top of that, my partner, my family friends, friends from HS and college, and work connections. Somewhere in this, I'm also trying to connect w/ myself and figure out where I want to be and where I want to go. Honestly, writing this long ass post (sorry for its length) is a part of my process of getting to know myself a bit better.
I'm just really struggling with this constant guilt at not reaching out to my friends or responding to messages, the compulsive need to be in contact with them and know the happenings of their lives, and trying to find myself without sacrificing the bonds and relationships that helped to build me into who i am today. I'm just constantly trying to stay on top of things and failing to. Any tips or flaws in my thought patterns would be really helpful. Thanks for reading everything!!!

So I was looking at the low pressure tips but I’m wondering if it’s ok to use those with normal high quality water based paint. Should I be diluting the paint to get rid of the tails? Also this time every time I let of the trigger it would spray blobs onto the wall. So the work looks awful. It didn’t do this last time but last time I was using decent quality paint and this time I’m using the highest quality paint and it seems to be thicker. I need to buy a new tip no matter what because 12” spray fan is too wide for most of the stuff I’m doing. I’d rather it take longer and be easier to control because this is for home use. Right now I’m looking at the LP415 which has an 8” fan and an orifice of 0.015 which should mean the lowest flow rate. But I’m also worried about the orifice too. Is that too small for thick high quality paints? Also just to save from any chance that someone says my tip is worn out. The tip I used has painted a total of 400 sq single coat feet and (2) cups of water for cleaning. So it’s not warm out. Thanks a lot. |

Hello, I am a high schooler taking an introductory physics class. The AP test is over, so recently our teacher has been teaching some special relativity for a bit of fun. One of the first things he talked about was that if you have two objects in a vacuum that are in motion relative to each other, there is no way to conduct an experiment to tell which one is truly "moving" and which one is truly "stationary" (so motion is relative). That made sense to me, but later when we started talking about time dilation, we went over how if you were to make one object move close to the speed of light and keep another object stationary, the moving object would experience time slower than the stationary object.
That made sense too, but it made me think: couldn't you use that as an experiment? Like, get two identical objects that tick once every second, move one close to the speed of light and keep the other stationary, the one that ticks more times is the stationary one.
I get that this can't work because neither is objectively stationary or moving, it's all relative, and my physics teacher said that the no-experiments thing is a solid law and can't be broken, but he wasn't able to come up with an explanation for why it wouldn't work, so I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas or knew why this couldn't be used to determine which was stationary.

I’m level 47 right now but only on Act 5 in WT1 (I know I got sidetracked doing aspect dungeons and side quests) and I’m running a poison bow build w/ forceful arrow, twisting blades, dash, poison trap, poison imbue, and death trap.

I was in Ktown today and was on my way to shop elsewhere when I was stopped by this dude who said he was a transfer student at Columbia University (first year). But he needed help in depositing his "check" that he received from his scholarship. He showed me a pic of his negative balance on his college account (around -$1K) and kept on saying he can't deposit the check because of his negative balance, and that he needs a third party person to help him. I not really sure what he was saying and I should have said, "Nope, sorry I'm busy." But I didn't. He then asked if I could help him deposit the check at the ATM and stuff and I thought he needed help in using the machines, so I was like okay, I can help. On top of this, he was in a rush to catch the LIRR.
As we were speed walking, he kept on saying how thankful he was about my gesture and yada yada yada. And we had a nice talk about college stuff. As we got to the first Chase Bank, we walked in and he was like okay, I'll wait for you to deposit the check at the ATM. ??? I have never deposited a check at an ATM before, I only know how to take a picture of it online. But also why do I need to log into my account. I backed out and was like sorry, no can do. I got to go.
I really did try to shake him off after this. But he kept on clinging to me and saying things like "I thought you understood what I was saying this whole time, etc." No I don't. I was so confused. He was getting frustrated. I wanted to leave and then, I did the unthinkable because he kept on pestering me. And logged onto my Chase acct while he showed me how to deposit the check, and somehow I fell for his stupid scam and ended up pressing the deposit button. Before I knew it, I was withdrawing that $ amt from my acct at a different Chase location (349 5th Ave) and gave it to him in person. After he left, I went back to the Chase to report what happened, but it was too late.
Please don't be too harsh on me. I'm already disappointed and pissed that I fell for his scam. I'm so stupid. I was told that I can't report the scam incident to Chase Customer Service until after I get the transaction statement in a couple business days. More than likely, it will bounce back. And Chase Bank said that I am more than likely to not get a refund. They also said that I should file a police report back at my local neighbor after the bounce back message.
I'm sharing my story here just in case someone else encounters this. Please stay safe and let me know if there is anything else I can do about this.
Edit: Okay, people are not liking that I said don't be harsh on me. What can I do then to solve this problem? Probably there is nothing I can do. But maybe some suggestions would help?

Quiet, variable speed blades, does not scare the animals, even the chickens will follow along after bugs, no fumes, the batteries can be used in an ass ton of very nice home owner tools, machine is light enough I can wrestle it out of anything it gets stuck in, power capacity can be expanded with additional or improved batteries, NO BELTS, like driving an RC car around the yard, zero turn design, cupholder that won't vibrate the fizz out of your drink because there's no attached explosion box.
Seriously, I'm done with gas engine anything related to mowers. It's also easier on the grass and soil because the whole machine is not shaking like a concrete vibrator, liquifying the wet soil and displacing it under tire tread anywhere that is not perfectly dry.
I did not realize how badly the engine vibration was impacting myself and my landscape till it was absent.
Any electric.
I've thrown my lot in with Ego. Stupid name, great products, promised continued battery compatibility with ALL their tools. I use the mower batteries in a battery bank for camping. Can't easily do that with the engine in a gas mower that just sits idle in the off season. The high CFM leaf blower is amazing. The flood light is contractor grade. The push mowers are light, quiet, reliable, and chew up unkept lawns like a champ. The string trimmer is, well it's a good string trimmer, I dunno. Electric variants of those have been pretty good for a while if you pay enough.
There are places for gas mowers, and def for larger property applications, but this is the future, electric is viable, so so off brand batteries are available cheaply. There is no reason for me to spend on a comparatively priced fuel burner going into an increasingly EV future. It plugs in to charge as simple as my phone, and has a charge plug FOR my phone beside the aforementioned cupholder, of which there are two. There is an available shade canopy that is sturdy enough to act as a light rollover bar, and mount for an equipment box or yard tools.
Seriously, go electric. It made mowing my rough hilly forested 2 acres actually fun, like a little off road adventure every time. The zero turn is surprisingly capable on things other than flat lawn.
There is a reason Craigslist and Marketplace are flooded with free gas mowers.
The chainsaws are also pretty nice, and a major reason for my electric choice is fire. No heat and spark making engine, which after massive sustained fire evacuations a few summers ago is a HUGE deal. Not only is there no hot exhaust to worry about, but also no exposed friction heat sources, such as obtuse belts and pulley systems. This is not the flat-belt drive 1920's. Direct drive that shit with an enclosed high torque variable speed motor.
It has nice LED lighting, so you can near silently mow at night, even in a residential area, when the sun is down and it's cool out, and nobody will care because unless you chew up a rock or big branch nobody is going to hear it through even the most basic of vinyl frame double pane window.
I am using this thing outside it's intended spec's, and am using it hard, and it keeps going. This is the sort of machine the average home-owner actually needs, but marketing and bravado says otherwise.
It is not commercial equipment, but if you actually do need that, this brand is also expanding into that market.

If there's one thing we know for sure it's that the body cam footage is 100% real. We can all agree that there is definitely something in the sky traveling at a high rate of speed. Has anyone used the body cam footage to get the EXACT location of where that police officer was? If so, does the direction of the object in the sky match with this kids story? What if the object is traveling in the complete opposite direction from where it supposedly crashed?
Another thing to point out; It is very clear that the kids family (including himself) were scared, shocked, and nervous. They made the 911 call and it took the cops 30+ minutes to arrive (I don't know the actual time it took) All I can say is when you are in a situation where you are terrified and nervous, time feels like an eternity. If cops don't show up at my house within 5-10 minutes in a situation where I'm absolutely shitting bricks you better believe I'm going to call again and tell them to hurry the hell up. It makes me wonder what happened during that time gap?

When you have 20-25 kills (shortly after an advanced UAV is recommended so you don't accidently NUKE), place a Tactical Insert near the spawn to avoid running around and run 15 feet to kill yourself, and pull your standard grenade and hold in hand until it blows. - 4.Never use nuke! Nuke will end the game, and nuke is a high risk of being banned. You may be penalized one game if you call in a nuke.
Notice of how to play: Domination: Spawn and capture your nearest flag. Avoid B. Run to their spawn and murder! Capturing B will cause the game to end faster. This is at your own cost!
