2023.06.10 00:50 Illustrious-Leg-1673 20f looking for a friend :)
Hello! My name is chloe and I have always wanted a pen pal. I live in Florida and work as a full stack web developer, and will be completing my computer science degree in the upcoming spring! While I am super techy, I also love art and nature! I even have my own Etsy shop where I do art commissions.
I would love to have someone to send postcards, pressed flowers, and fun stories to.
If you know how to speak Russian, Turkish or another language I would LOVE to practice. I am working on becoming proficient in Russian and have always wanted to learn Turkish so it’d be a cool opportunity.
Looking forward to meeting a new friend :)

2023.06.09 23:03 codyxxo Failed 3 classes, many red flags, but still got the A
I’m not good at posting on social media, but I remember reading a story like this 5 years ago that gave me hope to keep pursuing my dream and I want to pay it forward.
- ORM male, non SES
- 1st time applicant
- 1st generation healthcare worker with no connections to other doctors, hospitals, or med schools
- 3.4 uGPA - 3 Fs, 3 Cs in the first 2.5 years. 5 of these were prereqs (they had us in the first half not gonna lie). I retook all the Fs and one of the Cs and got 3 As and 1 B.
- Bio major. If you care, my undergrad was a somewhat prestigious school, and very STEM heavy. 5 years undergrad + 3 years SMP + 1 gap year. The SMP did not offer any linkage.
- 3.6 SMP gpa.
- 507 MCAT with 124 CARS (1st attempt, but could've done better).
- 480 clinical hours as a pct on a med surg floor - 980 by the time of my interview
- 200 hours as a secretary at the hospital (non clinical)
- 1400 research hours across 4 biochemistry/genetics labs and 3 middle author publications. ~2400 hours by the time of my interview and a poster presentation at an international conference right after the interview, which I included in an update letter
- 12 shadowing hours with a DO - 30hrs by the time of interview with 3 other MDs / DOs
- ~60 hrs tutoring + TA at my undergrad
- No listed volunteering hours (red flag).
- No listed clubs or leadership positions (red flag)
- Rec letters (in a committee letter from my SMP) from: a DO I work with, my grad school pre med advisor / PI, professoformer PI, psych professor. I didn't read them but they were probably all pretty good.
- No X factor that I'm aware of
- My interview was mid. Got asked pretty generic questions and I gave pretty standard answers. I'm just a boring dude.
- I have a very financially supportive family - I wouldn’t be where I am without their help.
10 MD secondaries submitted. 0 II
13 DO secondaries submitted. 1 II -> WL -> A ……at an OOS school with the highest average gpa of all the DO schools I applied to (>3.7, one of the “Big 5” DO schools)
Surprisingly, I wasn’t immediately screened out by any of the schools pre-secondary. Secondaries were submitted from mid-July through October. I tried to submit the MD ones sooner than the DOs. The secondary for my only A was sent around late July or early August IIRC. I received an II at the end of February and got off the waitlist in May.
So here’s my story
My first F was in gen Chem 1 because it was my first semester in college and I was immature and lacked self-discipline. I also got a C in intro to bio that semester. I later retook these classes and got As in both, and I got almost all As in the next 2 semesters. My spring sophomore and fall junior semesters were when things fell apart. I won’t get into the details but a mix of physical+mental health issues and unfortunate events in my social life made me lose focus, resulting in Fs in bio III and a university required rhetoric class, as well as Cs in orgo I & II. Then I was put on academic probation and “separated” from my university for 2 semesters.
At this point I was pretty devastated and started to consider switching career paths because I didn’t even know if it was still possible to get into any medical school with my grades. I ended my 3rd year with a 2.96 cumulative gpa - a number forever ingrained into my head. Even if I got all As the rest of the way and stayed a 5th year, my gpa would only be a 3.4, which would still make it very hard to get in. But I realized in my time off that nothing will be nearly as fulfilling to me as practicing medicine. I also knew that my grades in the past year were not indicative of my true abilities, I was just in a difficult situation. So I addressed all the issues that held me back in the past, and even started counseling as I prepared to start my premed track again.
Also, this was around the time when I started to focus on becoming a better person as a whole. Not that I ever had a history of doing anything seriously immoral, but having the time to finally be alone with no distractions granted me opportunity to be more introspective and think about the ideal person I wanted to be, rather than the person others wanted me to be. I remember browsing through a Reddit post some years ago asking suicidal people what quotes keep them going, and one reply that hit me hard was “one day someone’s going to need you, and you better be there for them”. Over time, I realized that the most important quality of my "ideal self", among others, is that I should always be available when people need me, and to put the needs of others above my own. I think this perspective I developed back then helped keep me motivated and focused on my path to become a physician, and still does to this day.
One of my biggest improvements after coming back was my work ethic. I came to terms with the fact that I simply am not as intellectually gifted as most of my peers. If they studied 6 hours for an exam, I would need to study 25 hours for a similar grade, and if that’s what it takes then so be it. If I were to be a doctor, my patients aren’t going to feel bad for me because I’m slow; what really matters are the results. With redemption on my mind I loaded my schedule for the next 2 years with rigorous medicine related classes such as immunology, dev bio, genetics, biochem, anatomy, etc. (I also retook the classes I failed and did well). I went to every lecture, every supplemental session, and spent almost every day of the school year studying at the library from ~5pm - 2am, and 11am - 2am on weekends. There were times when I didn’t take a day off for several weeks. One year during finals, I wouldn’t sleep more than 2hrs a night for the entire week because I studied so much. I also changed my studying methods to rely less on brute force memorization, and more on attaining a deep understanding of concepts. Luckily it all paid off. Disclaimer: I would NOT recommend this work schedule for anyone. I just hated myself at the time, threw away my social life, and am strangely good at working while sleep deprived and hungry. Please take care of yourself.
Noteworthy parts of my application
When applying to medical schools I used my past failures as a testament of my persistence and resilience. It’s not like I could’ve hid my hideous grades anyway so might as well try to turn it into a strength. It ended up becoming a talking point in all my 1:1 interviews too. Some were impressed with my growth, although 1 still seemed a little concerned.
Another strength of my application was conveying how much I love working in healthcare through my experience as a PCT. The job is already hard enough having to take care of patients with dementia, C. Diff, incontinence, terminal cancer, COVID, diabetic ulcers, GI bleeds, hip/knee fractures, violent psych disorders, patients that are rude and non-compliant, etc. But I worked through the pandemic which was a complete shit show for months on end. The patient: nurse/PCT ratios were so ridiculous that it was honestly unsafe working conditions at times. Lots of people were quitting too which made things even harder. But this heavy workload, stress, and chaotic environment motivated me even more to show up everyday. I always thought to myself “at least I’m here. I can’t image how bad it would for the nurses and patients be if there were no PCTs”, and that if someone had to suffer in this position, I’m really glad it was me and not someone else. Looking back, however, I think my PS sounded too “woe is me” and when preparing for a re-app I was planning on scrapping that one completely for a more optimistic one.
I do regret not talking more about research in my PS and secondaries, however, as that was by far the EC that I spent the most time in, it’s something I’m kind of passionate about, and I probably understand it better than most applicants. Perhaps I would have gotten more interest from research-heavy MD schools if I did.
I never explained the cause of my poor grades that year, I only cited “personal issues” which in retrospect probably hurt my application. With this wording, it’s easy to assume the worst, like having a drug addiction or debilitating mental health issues, which was not the case. I should have said “I had distractions and lost focus”.
Advice for future applicants
If you dug yourself a hole as deep as I did, your first and foremost priority is to take care of your mental and physical health, which is more important than your gpa. Taking time off from school to fix yourself and recalibrate is a much better option than maintaining your downward trajectory and risking even worse health and grades.
Secondly, be very careful about continuing premed. I took a huge risk by sticking to premed, and just because it worked out for me doesn’t mean it’ll work out for everyone else. You should consider going all in on your path only if:
- You know exactly what went wrong and have a realistic plan on how to fix it. Be honest about your capabilities and weaknesses when making a plan. Ask yourself, if you were to retake classes you did poorly in, would you be confident in getting As in most if not all of them?
- You know with 100% certainty that you want to be a physician more than any other career after considering all your options. This may be obvious, but the earlier you jump ship, the less money and time you’ll waste on a journey going no where.
You should at least know if you even want to work in healthcare. I’ve never heard any one of my coworkers say they had a good day at the end of a shift. This work is not fun and the money and clout (however much you think there is) alone are not worth it. My personal justification for choosing healthcare is that working in a hospital has been the only place where I feel like I fit in. I’ve never been good at making friends, always crawled my way through school, and it’s hard to find hobbies and interests. But being on the floor, helping my patients and the team, is comforting for me, in a way. I feel like giving away parts of my life so that others can live theirs is what I was meant to do. I’m at baseline a lazy person, but at the hospital I feel like I have endless energy even after a 16 hour shift.
Don’t be discouraged by others’ success. “Comparison is the thief of joy”. Not gonna lie, seeing some sankeys of an applicant with 4.0 & 528, 7 first author pubs in no gap years, 6000 clinical hours, CEO of 3 companies, and an A for every single T20 school made me feel like a loser at times because my application was not even the same league. But keep in mind - 1) you don’t have to go to a top ranked school to be a good doctor, and 2) the path from point A to point B is different for everyone. For some, it’s short and straight; for others, it’s slow, bumpy, loopy, and goes backwards at times. But getting to point B in the end is what matters most. Medicine is not supposed to be a competition. So just be happy for them and focus on improving yourself. We’re all going to be called Dr. ___ in the end anyway.
Don’t listen to everything that people say, especially if they haven’t even applied to medical school - such as premed advisors. The only time I ever talked to my undergrad premed advisor, he pulled out a chart with a bell curve showing the likelihood of a med school acceptance based on GPA and MCAT. He pointed to coordinate (0,0), approximately, and said “you are here” and that was pretty much the entire conversation. Take everything with a grain of salt, even from successful applicants. My friend who’s an M3 said my application had too many red flags, that I won’t get in with any community service, and that I should’ve waited another year to apply. Which honestly wasn’t even bad advice, but I ended up proving her wrong anyway.
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this but I actually stopped talking about premed stuff irl, which improved my mood. When meeting new people I just told them I'm planning on going into research and teaching (which is still true), because if I mentioned premed, a lot of the ensuing conversations were just annoying asf - like when they ask me what my gpa is, or give me unprompted, unwarranted advice. I also kinda took a step back from my premed and med school friends because I already spend a lot of time each day worrying about my application, and the last thing I want to do is talk about it more in my free time. Another reason is because some friends would lose respect for me if I told them about my academic struggles. And personally, I absolutely hated when people told me to give up on med school, which happened a few times.
MD schools with relatively low average stat ranges are a little deceptive. I naively applied to them thinking they would be easier to get into but now I know it's not the case. Usually these schools just care more about "fit" and less about boasting high stats, and you can often tell what they value in their secondary essay questions. For example, Rush and Tulane seem to like applicants with a ton of service hours, and experience with addressing health disparities and helping underserved communities. UIllinois likes engineering students, so it’s no wonder their average GPA is lower. So even if I had better stats, I'd still probably have no chance of getting into these schools. You can also figure out good fits by going through sankeys of applicants with similar stats and ECs as you, and see which schools they had success with.
If you’re a high stat applicant that is wondering how I got in - I don’t know either. There is definitely always an aspect of luck (and unfairness, in my opinion) in the application process, and obviously I was very lucky. A lot of people have fantastic applications, do everything right, and will make great doctors one day, but still don’t get an A this cycle. Also, some adcom members are just chemistry professors, PIs, and people with an MBA degree, who hardly know anything about practicing medicine, and it’s crazy that they’re the ones deciding who’s going to be in the next generation of doctors. Just keep applying, and definitely apply to schools based on mission fit, not just their stat ranges.
There’s more I want to say but my post is already super long. You can DM me if you have any questions. I'm no expert in anything but I'll be honest and I'll try my best

2023.06.09 05:58 Quebolaebloa Auto choke tip
So I’ve been rebuilding my Ruck, and one issued I encountered was that the auto choke was causing a short in my wiring. Essentially, the choke is garbage. I tried researching how to just eliminate it since I live in Florida but nothing came up. So I ended up tinkering with it and figured out if you invert the spring inside, it’ll push the needle down and keep the choke off. If anyone is having a similar issue, feel free to try it out. I wasn’t able to find anything on it so I’m posting this incase anyone has any issues with the ruckus auto choke

THE RESUSCITATION OF THE ONLY DAUGHTER
There once lived an old couple who had an only daughter.
She was a beautiful girl, and was very much courted by the young men of the tribe, but she said that she preferred single life, and to all their heart-touching tales of deep affection for her she always had one answer.
That was "No."
One day this maiden fell ill and day after day grew worse.
All the best medicine men were called in, but their medicines were of no avail, and in two weeks from the day that she was taken ill she lay a corpse.
Of course there was great mourning in the camp.
They took her body several miles from camp and rolled it in fine robes and blankets, then they laid her on a scaffold which they had erected.
(This was the custom of burial among the Indians).
They placed four forked posts into the ground and then lashed strong poles lengthwise and across the ends and made a bed of willows and stout ash brush.
This scaffold was from five to seven feet from the ground.
After the funeral the parents gave away all of their horses, fine robes and blankets and all of the belongings of the dead girl.
Then they cut their hair off close to their heads, and attired themselves in the poorest apparel they could secure.
When a year had passed the friends and relatives of the old couple tried in vain to have them set aside their mourning.
"You have mourned long enough," they would say.
"Put aside your mourning and try and enjoy a few more pleasures of this life while you live. You are both growing old and can't live very many more years, so make the best of your time."
The old couple would listen to their advice and then shake their heads and answer:
"We have nothing to live for.
Nothing we could join in would be any amusement to us, since we have lost the light of our lives."
So the old couple continued their mourning for their lost idol.
Two years had passed since the death of the beautiful girl, when one evening a hunter and his wife passed by the scaffold which held the dead girl.
They were on their return trip and were heavily loaded down with game, and therefore could not travel very fast.
About half a mile from the scaffold a clear spring burst forth from the side of a bank, and from this trickled a small stream of water, moistening the roots of the vegetation bordering its banks, and causing a growth of sweet green grass.
At this spring the hunter camped and tethering his horses, at once set about helping his wife to erect the small tepee which they carried for convenience in traveling.
When it became quite dark, the hunter's dogs set up a great barking and growling.
"Look out and see what the dogs are barking at," said the hunter to his wife.
She looked out through the door and then drew back saying:
"There is the figure of a woman advancing from the direction of the girl's scaffold."
"I expect it is the dead girl; let her come, and don't act as if you were afraid," said the hunter.
Soon they heard footsteps advancing and the steps ceased at the door.
Looking down at the lower part of the door the hunter noticed a pair of small moccasins, and knowing that it was the visitor, said:
"Whoever you are, come in and have something to eat."
At this invitation the figure came slowly in and sat down by the door with head covered and with a fine robe drawn tightly over the face.
The woman dished up a fine supper and placing it before the visitor, said: "Eat, my friend, you must be hungry."
The figure never moved, nor would it uncover to eat.
"Let us turn our back towards the door and our visitor may eat the food," said the hunter. So his wife turned her back towards the visitor and made herself very busy cleaning the small pieces of meat that were hanging to the back sinews of the deer which had been killed.
(This the Indians use as thread.)
The hunter, filling his pipe, turned away and smoked in silence.
Finally the dish was pushed back to the woman, who took it and after washing it, put it away.
The figure still sat at the door, not a sound coming from it, neither was it breathing.
The hunter at last said: "Are you the girl that was placed upon that scaffold two years ago?" It bowed its head two or three times in assent.
"Are you going to sleep here tonight; if you are, my wife will make down a bed for you."
The figure shook its head. "Are you going to come again tomorrow night to us?" It nodded assent.
For three nights in succession the figure visited the hunter's camp.
The third night the hunter noticed that the figure was breathing.
He saw one of the hands protruding from the robe.
The skin was perfectly black and was stuck fast to the bones of the hand.
On seeing this the hunter arose and going over to his medicine sack which hung on a pole, took down the sack and, opening it, took out some roots and mixing them with skunk oil and vermillion, said to the figure:
"If you will let us rub your face and hands with this medicine it will put new life into the skin and you will assume your complexion again and it will put flesh on you."
The figure assented and the hunter rubbed the medicine on her hands and face.
Then she arose and walked back to the scaffold.
The next day the hunter moved camp towards the home village.
That night he camped within a few miles of the village.
When night came, the dogs, as usual, set up a great barking, and looking out, the wife saw the girl approaching.
When the girl had entered and sat down, the hunter noticed that the girl did not keep her robe so closely together over her face.
When the wife gave her something to eat, the girl reached out and took the dish, thus exposing her hands, which they at once noticed were again natural.
After she had finished her meal, the hunter said: "Did my medicine help you?"
She nodded assent. "Do you want my medicine rubbed all over your body?"
Again she nodded. "I will mix enough to rub your entire body, and I will go outside and let my wife rub it on for you."
He mixed a good supply and going out left his wife to rub the girl.
When his wife had completed the task she called to her husband to come in, and when he came in he sat down and said to the girl:
"Tomorrow we will reach the village.
Do you want to go with us?"
She shook her head.
"Will you come again to our camp tomorrow night after we have camped in the village?" She nodded her head in assent.
"Then do you want to see your parents?" She nodded again, and arose and disappeared into the darkness.
Early the next morning the hunter broke camp and traveled far into the afternoon, when he arrived at the village.
He instructed his wife to go at once and inform the old couple of what had happened.
The wife did so and at sunset the old couple came to the hunter's tepee.
They were invited to enter and a fine supper was served them.
Soon after they had finished their supper the dogs of the camp set up a great barking.
"Now she is coming, so be brave and you will soon see your lost daughter," said the hunter. Hardly had he finished speaking when she entered the tent as natural as ever she was in life. Her parents clung to her and smothered her with kisses.
They wanted her to return home with them, but she would stay with the hunter who had brought her back to life, and she married him, becoming his second wife.
A short time after taking the girl for his wife, the hunter joined a war party and never returned, as he was killed on the battlefield.
A year after her husband's death she married again.
This husband was also killed by a band of enemies whom the warriors were pursuing for stealing some of their horses.
The third husband also met a similar fate to the first.
He was killed on the field of battle.
She was still a handsome woman at the time of the third husband's death, but never again married, as the men feared her, saying she was holy, and that any one who married her would be sure to be killed by the enemy.
So she took to doctoring the sick and gained the reputation of being the most skilled doctor in the nation.
She lived to a ripe old age and when she felt death approaching she had them take her to where she had rested once before, and crawling to the top of the newly erected scaffold, wrapped her blankets and robes about her, covered her face carefully, and fell into that sleep from which there is no more awakening.

2023.06.09 04:15 zombie2uRBX Girl crashed into my parked car
Hey, in Florida,
I was chilling at my friend's house, when someone came up to me and said "someone hit your car." I ran out, not knowing how bad it was. They were probably going like 50+ on a residential road, about half of their front half hit the rear of my truck. They pushed in the bumper and body panels, and their car seemed to have stopped on my rear leaf spring. I was just going to call the insurance initially but they started screaming "You're in the middle of the road!" to someone on the phone and just wailing to whoever they were talking to. Not taking any responsibility. I WAS in the road, by about 2 feet. 2/3 of my car were on someone's lawn. It's reasonable for a neighborhood and their friend who came to be with them parked further out into the road then me. Again, it's a residential street. Anyways, I decided to call the police at that point because I wasn't going to have her lie to her insurance once I realized she wasn't going to take responsibility. When I was on the phone with the police she got up and started stumbling, so I told them I'm not sure if she's drunk. She was so mad at me that I honestly assumed it had to have been the alcohol talking. I mean, I was the one that was hit and I wasn't that upset, things happen.
I didn't want to talk to her past hearing what she said - there's no point. It would just escalate, so I called the police, got in my car and locked the door, waiting for them to arrive. I honestly have no idea what she said to them, I gave my side. I was inside, my car got hit, miraculously there were 2 people outside that recognized it as my car, talked to the police, and came and got me. They agreed I wasn't in the road an unreasonable amount.
I guess my biggest question is, will I get full coverage from this accident from them? They has insurance. At the time I have no police report, Florida takes 10 days to process them and you don't get them immediately after physically. I wasn't cited with anything, I have no idea if / what they was cited with. I don't know if they was DUI, they were sitting with a police officer and drinking water at one point. Seemed weird.
My biggest fear is that, as we are a no fault state, my insurance will be responsible. I can't afford for my rates to go up a lot. Is there anything to do after the crash to get reimbursement for insurance rates after the fact? I'm very lost here, it's my second time being in a crash, but first time where there is 100% fault. It's really hard to be seen "at fault" in Florida because people lie after accidents.
Sorry for asking so many questions. To what extent is the insurance company liable to fix? If my body panels get replaced and they can't make them color match, would I be able to get my entire car repainted to match? It was in near perfect condition before the crash.
So just to kind of TL;DR
I have no fault in an accident that damaged my car badly. Will I owe anything after this out of my pocket? If I do, how do I get it back? Can I get reimbursed for rising insurance rates? How much is the insurance company liable to make my car back to normal?
Thank you guys, I appreciate you a lot. I've looked for all of this information but it is very jumbled and different law firms seem to write different things.

2023.06.08 22:28 Freebirde777 A Cat and His Dragon / A Dragon and His Cat
Life was good on the farm. I noticed there were fewer animals in the stable and the granary was emptied and bagged. The bags and tools were loaded into the wagons. The chickens and geese were caught and put in cages. Many things were brought from the house including my sister and her kittens.
In the morning the remaining animals were hitched to the wagons. The children caught the puppies and loaded them onto the wagons. The wagons left followed by the momma dog and a few others. The only ones left, besides me, was Scrounge and his mongrel pack. I still had plenty of mice and grasshoppers to eat, but there was no one to fill Scrounge's bowl. Hunting for me was easier, fewer places for the mice to hide and they had to move around more to find food.
Scrounge and his pack had to hunt for their own food, then fight to keep it. When one of them started to hunt me, he was discouraged with one swipe across his nose. The day came when the whole pack caught me coming back to the barn from the watering trough. I couldn't make it back to the barn, so I ran to the leaning tree next to the woodlot. Traveling from tree to tree, I only stopped to eat a small bird I caught while the hungry dogs watched. When it started to get dark, I let the dogs see me going back toward the barn. I didn't go back because I knew it would not be safe there for as long as the pack was there.
After it was fully dark, I quietly went away from the farm and into the hills beyond. I could have gone down to the river, but I knew there were plenty of wild cats and foxes there. Hunting as I traveled, I was looking for a new home. One day as I was traveling along some blown down trees toward a spring, I heard something in the valley below. It was Scrounge and the pack fighting over the remains of a hare that I had killed the evening before. They must have abandoned the farm or had been run off. I got a good drink and started up the path on the side of a hill. The hill became a cliff and the path led to a cave. The cliff there was too sheer to climb up or down. If they find me in the cave, they won't be able to see me very well.

2023.06.08 20:12 DarthCroissant (Indiana Jones) What if the Indiana Jones films take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In the 4 Indiana Jones films, we see that the main artifact Indy is searching for in each movie has some sort of supernatural significance.
The Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark was a sacred chest containing the presence of God and his angels. Whoever dared look into it would be struck down by the wrath of God.The Sankara Stones in Temple of Doom were sacred stones given to Sankara by the Hindu god Shiva. They brought fertility to the land, but unleashed fiery destruction on those who betrayed Shiva. The Holy Grail in Last Crusade was the cup that caught the blood of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion. Whoever drank from the false Grail would die, while the one true Grail would bring life. While I hate to reference this movie, the crystal skull in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was an artifact with supernatural properties connected to an ancient extraterrestrial civilization.
After watching Thor: Love and Thunder, I realized that the existence of Omnipotence City explains how multiple religions manage to exist in the Indiana Jones universe. The existence of alien life is also clear in the MCU, so I wouldn't be surprised if the aliens from Crystal Skull are just one of the alien species in this Indy/Marvel universe.
Also, after further research, I found a lot more evidence to support this at Jock Lindsay's Hangar Bar, a restaurant at the Disney Springs shopping district at Walt Disney World. Jock Lindsay was the pilot from the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark who helps Indiana Jones escape the Hovitos. The restaurant's backstory (which has never been said to be canon or not canon to the Indiana Jones saga's story) goes as such, according to disney.fandom.com
: While helping Indiana Jones on his search for the Fountain of Youth, the two traveled through Florida on their quest, including a stop at Saint Augustine's Fountain of Youth roadside attraction, which Doctor Jones was not too pleased by. During one of these flights, the two flew over the clear waters of Disney Springs, which Jock found so beautiful that he decided to eventually build a home there, later opening his Hangar Bar there in 1955.
The Hangar Bar is important to this overall theory because it contains a couple hard-to-find references to the MCU. In the Lost & Found, you can find a key labeled "Howard S.". Howard Stark would have been alive at this time, and this proves that he actually may have been acquainted to Jock Lindsay and possibly even Dr. Jones. There is also a sign in the bar containing the words "The Iron Fireman", with the word "fire" blotted out. In 2018, to celebrate the debut of Ant Man and The Wasp
, the bar began to serve both giant and tiny portions of menu items, supposedly made with Hank Pym's technology that would have existed around the 1960s, about 5 years after the opening of the bar.
I also remember someone else on this subreddit saying that in Captain America: The First Avenger
, that Red Skull believed that his harnessing of the tesseract is the key to true power while the Führer digs for trinkets in the desert. This could possibly be alluding to the Nazi operations in the Indiana Jones films to uncover the Ark or the Grail which were shown to be sources of unspeakable power.

2023.06.08 19:25 Dayruhlll Thread: how to find dive buddies
This is meant to help new divers get plugged in with dive buddies so fewer people go out solo. Please add your own tips and/or links to your local groups in the comments.
TLDR: Step 1: freediver course Step 2: local dive club/group Step 3: group trips with local divers.
Generally speaking, the freediving scene is extremely inclusive. However, freedivers have to place a lot of trust in their dive buddies, which can make the community seem exclusive, particularly if you’re a new diver. Spearos are a step above this: Not only do they put trust in you to saftey them well, but they also don’t want their hard earned fishing spots to become public knowledge.
If you’re looking for buddies, a good place to start is with a freediving course. This course will teach you to not only dive bettesafer, but it will also make it that much easier for local divers to trust you as a saftey.
Once you’re certified, most coastal areas have freedive groups and clubs. And many instructors have groups of their own so that their students can connect with each other. These groups are a great way to get plugged in with local divers, as well as a way to join group charters/trips.
Do not underestimate these group trips. Not only are they often a great way to train alongside phenomenal local divers, but they are also a great way to find dive buddies, establish yourself as a good dive buddy, and ultimately get out in the water on more private trips. Plus, lots of spearos practice line diving. So you can still meet them, and the more comfortable you are on the line, the easier spearing becomes.
If you’re looking for a local community, here is a list of some I am familiar with, both in my area, as well as areas I have traveled to looking for buddies. If your area is not listed here or in the comments, facebook, instagram and a local dive shop are great places to start.
Florida: Freedivers united: South Florida Spearfishing Florida freedivers Central Fl Freedivers Florida Springs Freedivers Tampa freedive/spearfish Fort Myers Freedivers
Texas: Texas freedive/spearfish
Tri-State: Tris-State Skindivers

If this is not allowed, please delete. I tried this last year but didn't have much luck but I'm a Big Jays fan down here in Florida and always go to Spring Training games and I would love one of the Pride Jerseys they are giving out tomorrow night and if anyone is going and does not want one and can grab me one I would be eternally grateful. I'd be happy to cover shipping and some extra for a beer or two on me. Just let me know if you would be able to help a fan out.
