Fisher, for the third essay in a row, recalls Freud and dreamwork, this time to describe Smith's lyrical approach. As in dreams, the boundaries are blurred. Smith extends his impenetrability to his liner notes and interviews.
Our last reading in the the series will be on Sunday! If you haven't heard it, Red Scare did an episode with Fisher's music critic contemporary Simon Reynolds, who also compiled the K-Punk book anthology. What happens at a Happening?
Perhaps the most striking feature of the Happening is its treatment (this is the only word for it) of the audience. The event seems designed to tease and abuse the audience. The performers may sprinkle water on the audience, or fling pennies or sneeze-producing detergent powder at it. Someone may be making near-deafening noises on an oil drum, or waving an acetylene torch in the direction of the spectators.Fisher on Mike E. Smith's lyrics and vocals:
It is also impossible to stop making sense of them – or at least to it is impossible to stop attempting to make sense of them. On the one hand, there is no possibility of dismissing the songs as Nonsense; they are not gibberish or disconnected strings of non sequiturs. On the other hand, any attempt to constitute the songs as settled carriers of meaning runs aground on their incompleteness and inconsistency.Sontag says of Happenings "This is the alogic of dreams rather than the logic of most art." Some Happenings trailed off, while in others "the walls collapsed, and the spectators were driven out by someone operating a power lawnmower." Sontag categorizes them as a kind of surreal humor at the expense of the audience.

38f 220lbs 5’7- I have eaten horrifically this year, and my job is very…. Well I stare at a screen for 12 hrs and we can’t move unless someone covers us. And they are overnight. Awful combo. So this is now up to me. My md left a voicemail saying all labs are fine except I’m now pre diabetic and have high cholesterol. Nice voicemail to wake up to. But I own up to, the fact I put myself in this spot, so it’s me who has to fix it.

It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark, when out of the blue, my wife called me at work. "We're going to Niagara Falls for the weekend. I got us an awesome deal!"
We had both been working at our first "full-fledged" jobs for a year and had reached that moment after graduation when you suddenly realize you can't make that impact on the world your student enthusiasm once promised. At first, I just sighed. It was the dead of January, and I had already expended all my energy on a week of inconsequential stress. I just wanted to collapse on the couch for two days. Sarah felt a similar weary exhaustion. I could tell. Her tone was more hopeful than excited, but she had dreaded the routine we were sinking into and was trying her best to pull us free.
I looked to the ceiling and adjusted my telephone headset. At that time I was working at Stats Canada on the tele-query desk. I took a deep breath and, as convincingly as possible, said, "Sounds good." I don't think she bought it, but we went nonetheless.
This was Niagara Falls before the casinos when there was a very distinct off-season. When we got to the hotel, we were given the details of our "lovers' special". One dinner to be used either Friday or Saturday, two breakfasts, a roll of tokens for the arcade, 10% off some "4D" movie ride experience, and a 2-for-1 coupon to Max Tussaud's. I guessed it was Madame's nephew? We also got a bottle of sparkling wine in our room and chocolate treats on our pillows. I was impressed. It sounded good.
When we got into our room and saw the "bottle" of wine - basically an aeroplane-sized glass and half - and the chocolates - "fun wrapped" Oh Henry's left over from Halloween - we both started to laugh. The tone for two wonderful days had been set. We decided to cash in on our dinner coupon right away.
The restaurant off the lobby had hopes of being better. There were huge panoramic windows that promised a view of the gorge. Unfortunately, they had some winter moisture problems that day, and it felt like we were defrosting amid the dripping streaks and foggy patches. The decor was your standard booths and tables though the "romantic" lighting was unique. Dollar store battery-powered tea lights were lodged inside thick tumbler glasses and shed a muted pleasantness in a "what a great idea for a craft" sort of way. I had a feeling they were created by our waitress since she was the one who always seemed to be fussing with them. Only one other couple was in the dining room, so she attended to us immediately.
"Can I get you something to start?"
"Sure." "Thank you, that would be nice." We both responded simultaneously.
"And what would the lady like this evening?"
Sarah smiled at the flattery. "I think I'll have a glass of white wine." She glanced over at me to see my reaction. This was a subtle cue of the mood to follow. Diet Coke was usually the beverage of choice. She didn't normally drink alcohol. One glass numbed her nose and made her giggle far too easily. When she did drink, however, it meant she was comfortable with my company and open to anything to follow. I raised my eyebrows in a debonair way.
"And for the gentleman?"
"Do you have Foster's on tap?"
"Yes we do."
"I'll have a pint please."
Sarah smiled at the happy memories I invoked. At university, Foster's was my signature beer. It was at a time when Crocodile Dundee was a known name, and Australia was inexplicably cool. 15 cent buffalo wings and a pitcher of Foster's was the Tuesday night special at the London Arms pub. There the Classics Club would meet and, as a group, circle the wagons and drink ourselves into extroverts.
As soon as the waitress left, Sarah smiled at me. She reached out and held my hand across the table. With my gaze on hers, she slipped her foot from her shoe and slowly began sliding it up my pant leg.
"I got a pedicure this morning." She announced seductively.
I nodded and pretended I didn't notice her invitation. "What colour?" I asked.
"I'm not telling." She teased. "You'll just have to find out later." Her devious little smile was gorgeous.
"Mmmm. I can't wait."
When the waitress returned with our drinks, we immediately retreated to our personal spaces as if we had been discovered by the chaperone. Sarah opened the menu and began to salivate at the variety.
"Can we add an appetizer to the package dinner?" Her question seemed innocent enough.
"You're on the package?" Our friendly waitress disappeared, and we were no longer a lady or a gentleman. She ripped the menu out of Sarah's hand and took mine before I had even opened it. She then scurried to her podium and brought back a tattered, grease-stained, photocopied page that we had to share. We both burst out laughing.
The waitress was flustered that we were not as bothered as she was. "The drinks are NOT included!"
"What choices do we have?" I asked, expecting the usual chicken or fish. I had been on many packages before with my parents.
"Coffee or tea." The waitress snapped.
Sarah and I looked at each other in amused disbelief.
"I'll have coffee please." I didn't even flinch at the ridiculously limited package. I was eager to get my order in early.
"And I'll have the tea!" Sarah followed my lead. "Can I have some milk with that?"
"Yes." The waitress snarled.
"Fantastic!" I enthused.
"Yes, great! I'm glad we got the package, Honey." Sarah joked.
The waitress stormed off and returned sometime later with our lettuce-only salads drowned in Kraft's Italian dressing and our chewy chicken dinners, which she had thoughtfully allowed to cool. She tossed the plates on the table and left us to peacefully devour our deal. We didn't see her again until we requested the bill. For some reason, we found it amusing to leave a generous tip, which of course, defeated the purpose of the package, but we didn't care. It was fun.
The rest of the holiday was marred with similar off-season products and services. The wax museum was only half open, so we couldn't see the pop stars of the seventies. I didn't think it was a problem, but Sarah pouted playfully. She really wanted to see young Bowie. Meanwhile, the arcade was particularly stingy about spitting out coupons. So much so that Mike, the scraggly-haired repair guy, ended up escorting us from game to game and repairing the devices on demand. In no time, he was acting like an old drinking buddy. He joked and laughed, then, out of the blue, revealed that working at the Niagara Falls Fun Centre wasn't his career choice, that his dream was to be part of a travelling carnival. He desperately wanted to see more of the world, he explained and socialize with a greater variety of "wildlife." Mike winked at Sarah to punctuate his meaning, then began advising her on which games to play.
Sarah was partial to Skee ball and clearly had career potential in the sport, but Mike quickly pointed out that the token-to-coupon payout was not the best. In a furtive whisper, he revealed that The Storm Stopper was your best bet, provided the arcade had left it on its original factory settings. He assured us the ones here were "cool." The game had lights that ran around the outside in opposite directions and you had to hit the button at just the right spot to win. It looked impossible, but Mike was right; if you calculated tokens in versus coupons won, it was the best deal. It only took a little practice to win a minor jackpot every 5 or 6 times.
We would cheer each win as if Toronto had won the Stanley Cup. I would give a quick fist pump and a full lung "Yes!" while Sarah would jump up and down screaming, "WhoooHooo!" Of course, in the end, when we cashed in, "Mike's secret" only bumped us up from a key-chain flashlight to a "deluxe" nail beauty set. Mind you, it did come complete with clippers, scissors, a file AND a cuticle scraper. Not only that, it was all neatly packaged in a paisley-patterned pink and green plastic vinyl case. Mike was so pleased to give us our prize and to be honest, we were thrilled to win it if only to see his broad chicletted smile. It was more of a trophy than a grooming set.
That night, I made reservations for us at a fancy Chinese food restaurant - the Bamboo Garden. When we arrived, we had half-expected renovations of some sort. Instead, the place was immaculate. Gentle pools teeming with goldfish highlighted the epic black and red Ming dynasty decor. Real candles flickered on crisp white tablecloths. Again, the restaurant was virtually ours. The reservations on my part were entirely unnecessary. In fact, as soon as we entered, they knew us by name and guided us directly to our table. A live lounge piano caressed the air, its notes danced vaguely around familiar harmonies until finally, as if prompted by our presence, a song emerged immediately accompanied by the velvet voice of oriental karaoke. I (36/F) was driving my sister’s car to run an errand today. (My sister is visiting from out of state.) I would have taken my own car except I forgot my keys at our mutual friend’s house earlier in the day when we visited for a play date with our kids. ADD at its finest.
Anyway, I caused the car accident by looking down at my phone for too long, driving through a red light (just after it changed, thankfully) and getting T-boned. Everyone is okay, I was the only one in the car, and my sister’s car didn’t sustain as much damage as I thought it would. But I sobbed… and sobbed… and just can’t shake this. Being a mom, this also hits different than previous car accidents. I also know I won’t be trusted to get behind the wheel of a car with my niece in the future, which makes me feel even worse. My sister knows about my ADD and has been very empathetic as she also has ADD. But I know she’s not going to trust me again anytime soon and even though it’s understandable, it hurts.
I am looking for help, tips, anything at this point. I’m on Adzenys (due to Adderall shortage). If I take too much, I don’t sleep at night; if I take too little, I can’t focus by early afternoon. Tips for meds are great, but I’m looking for things beyond that as well—support groups, ways to completely unplug from my phone when driving (and in general), etc. Thank you in advance. Being a mom, this also hits different than previous car accidents. I also know I won’t be trusted to get behind the wheel of a car with my niece in the future, which makes me feel even worse. My sister knows about my ADD and has been very empathetic as she also has ADD. But I know she’s not going to trust me again anytime soon and even though it’s understandable, it hurts.

I just got my k10 pro hooked up and started playing with it. One thing I've quickly noticed is that these (red) switches are way too light. My fingers resting on them is enough to press them. I am already feeling irritated about this and while I have never modded a keyboard I would not mind getting some different switches to put in here that have more resistance. I really love Cherry blue switches but my gf has promised to kill me if I got another keyboard with blues in them. Would someone be able to recommend a switch that provides the tactile feedbacks of blue without the clicky sounds?
The other thing that's really bothering me is the shortened left side shift key. is it possible to replace it with a normal size shift key? I am not sure why they wanted to move the tilde key there but I know I never use it and would prefer a normal size shift key.
Thank you for any advice. I am really liking what the keyboard offers and I think with some tweaks it will become my favorite.

An Albino Cobra for exemplification
Hey guys, Sertorius here again. Haven't been active here much for the reasons I've explained in my last thread but also due to lack of opportunity.
I've thought I should at least make a thread about this sighting of a cryptid in Portugal, since I am the only person able to source it and it might get lost to time if something happens to me.
Then...Here it goes.
In the 1990s, possibly 93/94/95, a group of children walked through their usual path to school, in the city of Barcelos, North of Portugal, close by to the Cavado River, the main river crossing the region. In a then bushy area of the street side, very close to the river margin, there was some maintenance by the City hall workers going on, as all 3 kids saw what the main witness, let's call her Kay, described as the following; "a snake, like a cobra [in Portuguese the word for snake IS cobra, which is the etymology of the group name, but I can assure you this is not a mistranslation as I am a native speaker and the group of snakes known as cobras has a specific name] with transparent skin, was slithering by right in front of us going in the direction of the bushes. I was able to see its insides as if it had no skin. The hood was like that of a cobra"
I questioned Kay about a few details - round or triangle face shape? She can't remember. Did the snake keep the hood flared as it move? Yes. Size? Due to size difference from children to adults, hard to say, but definitely not big for an usual snake.
I also presented Kay, my witness, with several images, in hopes of identifying the possible misidentification or an exotic escaped pet. (BTW before I keep writing further I'd like to make one point clear; despite being children at the time, they did talk to the workers nearby to warn them of the snake, as one would probably do, and Kay herself did tell this story immediately to her mother, who still remembers it to this day. I have zero reasons to not believe Kay's testimony, she has nothing to gain by lying, she in fact did not mention this on her own except when prodded by me as I mentioned my interest in cryptozoology and explained what the field is about. Kay is also someone I personally know for some time, and I can guarantee she is the most honest person I've ever met. She *saw* something that day and she has fantastic visual memory. Therefore, although I think we all should be somewhat sceptical with any eye witness, I wanted to add this caveat as to why I so firmly believe her)
Let's proceed. Due to her description, one of my first thoughts was that of an albino snake, yet, no snake was a match. Of course, she was insistent on the cobra morphology, which to me seemed dubious as there are none in the country or even in the larger region (we'll get back to this). I have also shown her many of the local species - that specific region of the country is a *hotspot* of snakes, having both serpents and vipers. On a mythological and folkloric note, Portugal's region was known by the Greeks as the land of Snakes, and has always had a huge folkloric motif relating to snakes and in fact as you've seen in my other map of Portuguese cryptids, cryptid snakes are common in Portugal historically. This is simply the most recent and distinct of the sightings/cryptids. With no proper snake match, I've showed her worms, skinks, legless lizards, and so on. Nothing matched. I showed her a false water cobra which has a sort of light rose colouring and she said it was close but not really. Nothing matched. Of course I wasnt expecting to find an exact match but if something was close it would be possible it was an escaped or albino escapee of some collectopet owner. I cant explain how insistent she has always been on the transparent skin point. I've showed her some animals that do have transparent skin like these here, particularly the frog and the skate. Of course this could've been the mind filling in blanks. I finally showed her after exhausting all alternative an albino cobra. This was my guess from the start but considering both the odds of an albino snake AND a cobra being in that place, I wanted to save it for last. That was the closest of all. She said it was *very* similar but still not quite. Again, the skin wasn't see-through enough. I'd like to add to this that there are both albino and leucistic snakes, and I'm pretty sure if real the cryptid was not leucestic, as that is a pasty white thats quite visible and opaque. Albino is closer to transparent.
With that done, there wasnt much else for me to do. Well, there was. Theorising.
This thread is long enough and I don't wanna give out all the details - specially as this will be the first cryptid I will *personally* search for in the terrain in 2024, and hopefully with some good news - thus I will simply put out forth a few solutions;
-the kids had a collective illusion - not impossible of course. But I personally don't think so, when you take everything into account -it was an escaped albino cobra - I think this is *very* likely. Over time the memory could have made it more transparent than it really was. Although the odds of all that happening seem very small it does make sense that an exotic pet owner would keep an albino cobra specifically, due to both their beauty and rarity. Only issue is that of course, it doesn't match 100% (Which could be explained by memory) and that afaik and seen there are no reports of escaped snakes, let alone cobras (granted, hard to find such from the 90s) and that pet trade like that specially then wasn't exactly common or easy. -other theories - there are many other possible theories of course which I will not talk about, like some specific mutation other than albinism, a damaged/sick snake from the region, a snake like animal under certain optical conjectures, etc... - a new and unique species - now, this is why you're here. I guess. Anyway this is the part where I'm gonna end the thread on; because I wanna discuss quickly why this isn't entirely impossible.
There is a phenomenon in which species adapting to a cave system as their entire habitat will have drastic changes. And thats called troglomorphism, ("cave shape"). You see this in some salamanders for example. Check the wiki article. So the see through skin could actually be a cave adaptation over thousands of years. The cave acting as a biogeographic island. The hood like a cobra could be an optical illusion, an actual hood that convergently evolved or a false hood, like the false water cobra has. Or it could be something else entirely for the cave system - we know one part of troglomorphism is potentially gaining extra appendages for sensory. Usually antennae tho. Thing is troglomorphism isnt very well understood yet.
Plus, the area is as I said above known for its snakes. One of the most snake dense areas of the country and historically as well. Although there aren't a lot of cave systems that we know of there, due to the geological and geophysical traits of the earth there, there *is* one specific area under the general area of the city and the upper Cavado that could have a decent enough cave system underneath. The Cavado itself can be a good way to move for snakes as some are seen at times in the water of the river. Furthermore, in the course of my research into portuguese cryptids in general, I've come across a few different researchers in the life sciences. One of them, an entomologist referred (relating to another topic tho) how the underground of Portugal is extremely rich and almost like "a tropical jungle" in terms of biodiversity and opportunities. An Albino Cobra for exemplification
Hey guys, Sertorius here again. Haven't been active here much for the reasons I've explained in my last thread but also due to lack of opportunity.
I've thought I should at least make a thread about this sighting of a cryptid in Portugal, since I am the only person able to source it and it might get lost to time if something happens to me.
Then...Here it goes.
In the 1990s, possibly 93/94/95, a group of children walked through their usual path to school, in the city of Barcelos, North of Portugal, close by to the Cavado River, the main river crossing the region. In a then bushy area of the street side, very close to the river margin, there was some maintenance by the City hall workers going on, as all 3 kids saw what the main witness, let's call her Kay, described as the following; "a snake, like a cobra [in Portuguese the word for snake IS cobra, which is the etymology of the group name, but I can assure you this is not a mistranslation as I am a native speaker and the group of snakes known as cobras has a specific name] with transparent skin, was slithering by right in front of us going in the direction of the bushes. I was able to see its insides as if it had no skin. The hood was like that of a cobra"
I questioned Kay about a few details - round or triangle face shape? She can't remember. Did the snake keep the hood flared as it move? Yes. Size? Due to size difference from children to adults, hard to say, but definitely not big for an usual snake.
I also presented Kay, my witness, with several images, in hopes of identifying the possible misidentification or an exotic escaped pet. (BTW before I keep writing further I'd like to make one point clear; despite being children at the time, they did talk to the workers nearby to warn them of the snake, as one would probably do, and Kay herself did tell this story immediately to her mother, who still remembers it to this day. I have zero reasons to not believe Kay's testimony, she has nothing to gain by lying, she in fact did not mention this on her own except when prodded by me as I mentioned my interest in cryptozoology and explained what the field is about. Kay is also someone I personally know for some time, and I can guarantee she is the most honest person I've ever met. She *saw* something that day and she has fantastic visual memory. Therefore, although I think we all should be somewhat sceptical with any eye witness, I wanted to add this caveat as to why I so firmly believe her)
Let's proceed. Due to her description, one of my first thoughts was that of an albino snake, yet, no snake was a match. Of course, she was insistent on the cobra morphology, which to me seemed dubious as there are none in the country or even in the larger region (we'll get back to this). I have also shown her many of the local species - that specific region of the country is a *hotspot* of snakes, having both serpents and vipers. On a mythological and folkloric note, Portugal's region was known by the Greeks as the land of Snakes, and has always had a huge folkloric motif relating to snakes and in fact as you've seen in my other map of Portuguese cryptids, cryptid snakes are common in Portugal historically. This is simply the most recent and distinct of the sightings/cryptids. With no proper snake match, I've showed her worms, skinks, legless lizards, and so on. Nothing matched. I showed her a false water cobra which has a sort of light rose colouring and she said it was close but not really. Nothing matched. Of course I wasnt expecting to find an exact match but if something was close it would be possible it was an escaped or albino escapee of some collectopet owner. I cant explain how insistent she has always been on the transparent skin point. I've showed her some animals that do have transparent skin like these here, particularly the frog and the skate. Of course this could've been the mind filling in blanks. I finally showed her after exhausting all alternative an albino cobra. This was my guess from the start but considering both the odds of an albino snake AND a cobra being in that place, I wanted to save it for last. That was the closest of all. She said it was *very* similar but still not quite. Again, the skin wasn't see-through enough. I'd like to add to this that there are both albino and leucistic snakes, and I'm pretty sure if real the cryptid was not leucestic, as that is a pasty white thats quite visible and opaque. Albino is closer to transparent.
With that done, there wasnt much else for me to do. Well, there was. Theorising.
This thread is long enough and I don't wanna give out all the details - specially as this will be the first cryptid I will *personally* search for in the terrain in 2024, and hopefully with some good news - thus I will simply put out forth a few solutions;
-the kids had a collective illusion - not impossible of course. But I personally don't think so, when you take everything into account -it was an escaped albino cobra - I think this is *very* likely. Over time the memory could have made it more transparent than it really was. Although the odds of all that happening seem very small it does make sense that an exotic pet owner would keep an albino cobra specifically, due to both their beauty and rarity. Only issue is that of course, it doesn't match 100% (Which could be explained by memory) and that afaik and seen there are no reports of escaped snakes, let alone cobras (granted, hard to find such from the 90s) and that pet trade like that specially then wasn't exactly common or easy. -other theories - there are many other possible theories of course which I will not talk about, like some specific mutation other than albinism, a damaged/sick snake from the region, a snake like animal under certain optical conjectures, etc... - a new and unique species - now, this is why you're here. I guess. Anyway this is the part where I'm gonna end the thread on; because I wanna discuss quickly why this isn't entirely impossible.
There is a phenomenon in which species adapting to a cave system as their entire habitat will have drastic changes. And thats called troglomorphism, ("cave shape"). You see this in some salamanders for example. Check the wiki article. So the see through skin could actually be a cave adaptation over thousands of years. The cave acting as a biogeographic island. The hood like a cobra could be an optical illusion, an actual hood that convergently evolved or a false hood, like the false water cobra has. Or it could be something else entirely for the cave system - we know one part of troglomorphism is potentially gaining extra appendages for sensory. Usually antennae tho. Thing is troglomorphism isnt very well understood yet.
Plus, the area is as I said above known for its snakes. One of the most snake dense areas of the country and historically as well. Although there aren't a lot of cave systems that we know of there, due to the geological and geophysical traits of the earth there, there *is* one specific area under the general area of the city and the upper Cavado that could have a decent enough cave system underneath. The Cavado itself can be a good way to move for snakes as some are seen at times in the water of the river. Furthermore, in the course of my research into portuguese cryptids in general, I've come across a few different researchers in the life sciences. One of them, an entomologist referred (relating to another topic tho) how the underground of Portugal is extremely rich and almost like "a tropical jungle" in terms of biodiversity and opportunities. Of course, he meant it more specifically concerning insects, but it does make me wonder as we do have quite a few interesting caves here, with unique systems and not enough money/manpower for research to be done on them.

I'm a 17 year old in chesterfield county, looking for a summer child sitting job, with the possibility of continuing into the school year if needed/desired after I get out of school. My rate is $15 an hour for one child, and every consecutive child is an extra $5 an hour. daily and weekly rates can be negotiated, however a minimum of three hours is required for every job. If less time is needed, I will still need to be compensated for the full three hours (this may change as I get offers). One time jobs are welcome, however I would prefer longer term engagements. My child experience is limited to some after-school tutoring I did during the school year last year with kindergarten level children, however I have childsat before on occasion for family friends. I am CPR, First Aid, and AED certified with the American Red Cross for both adult and pediatric care, valid until 2025.
If childcare is needed during normal mealtimes, I am able to prepare basic meals, such as sandwiches, canned soup, box meals (like Kraft Mac and cheese), salad, eggs, etc., according to the children's request or dietary requirements, however all food must be provided. If extra food is required, I can provide it so long as I am reimbursed. meal preparation does not incur any extra cost (unless I am required to provide food).
If pet care is required along with childcare, an extra cost may be applicable, which will be set and discussed beforehand, not after. The level of care will determine what extra cost, if any, there will be. If it is as simple as "feed the dog", there would be no additional cost. More complicated tasks, especially those that affect the primary childcare assignment, will require extra compensation. An example of such a chore would be walking the dog, since it requires me to pay attention to both the children and the dog at the same time, alongside a street where cars and other possible dangers will be present.
If any transportation is needed, such as to or from school or to extracurricular activities, I do have my driver's license and a vehicle, but I am limited to one passenger while I am under 18, so for care of multiple children, transportation may not be available.
My schedule is very flexible during the summer, except that I go to church on Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 12:00am, and I have horseback riding lessons on Mondays at 5:30pm. Sunday mornings are non negotiable, however with sufficient advance notice I can reschedule my riding lessons. (this is not up to me, because if I cancel a lesson within 24 hours of that lesson, I forfeit the lesson and am not able to make it up, except with a doctor's note. If care is needed last minute, I will need to be compensated for the lost lesson on top of my usual rate.) Once school starts again, I will be limited to after 3:00 on week days, but Saturdays and after the aforementioned time on Sundays will still be relatively flexible. If I intend to take time off or a vacation during a time that would interfere with regular childsitting jobs, I will give at least a month advance notice, but probably closer to two months. if I am planning on taking another job or quitting babysitting, I will try to give at least two weeks notice so you have time to find another sitter.

Eight years ago, I decided to be a flight attendant and I went to a class and I knew it would be full of beautiful girls in there, but I was adamant about not having anything with any girl. But right on the first day, this girl wich I will call here BGO, show up late at class and I could not take my eyes of her, and I even remember saying "fuck" when I saw her. I don't really remember when, but one day she sat by my side and asked me about the things I was copying from the whiteboard because she couldn't see, so she said “my calligraphy sucks, yours are probably better” to which I answered “you would need a Rosetta Stone to translate mine”. And I immediately thought “shit, this is the worst joke ever”, because I thought she wouldn't understand.
But she did understood, and I laughed with her for a moment.
So, before all that, I tried to learn French (my life is getting on track, I can tell you about it another day) to be a legionnaire in France because I thought that was the only thing left to me. But the teacher was sick all the time and the school went about some reconstruction, and that was the end of French classes for me, but the time I spent there helped me to have some knowledge about the language and I was able to sustain some conversation , and BGO loved things about France, her favorite thing was perfumes and to this very day, I feel pain when I smell roses or when I see the burnt pink color. Anyways, we got along very quickly and everyday I would wait for her at the bus stop. I started to wake up earlier just to be there before her, and be able to walk back to the flight attendant school with her. It took me some time to build the guts to do anything because she looked so good and so honest and happy. I loved that about her, right from the start, and I knew she was a good one. I knew that I wanted to be with her. One day, we and the rest of the class decided to try to learn French and English with her, because she was so good at her. I had some knowledge about English, but she was definitely better. We decided the day that everyone was to go to her house for a class, and I prayed that I would be alone with her. No one but a girl showed up, but she left after a while.
I was alone with her.
We sat on her living room floor, to study French. She looked beautiful, her skin was pale and translucent, but she also looked warm, sweet and salty. I will never forget her eyes on me, scorching my skin like the moonlight killing a vampire. I was completely lost. The time seemed to blur and I could taste her mouth. It was sweet and salty, just like a dream. I kissed her until we needed water, and after that I kissed her even more. I think that day is second only to the day I proposed to her seven years later, on a trip to the cost. That was last year, when I was hers.
I’m making this to help myself, because she probably hates me now and I truly think that I will never see her again. So, I’ll still get to the fetish thing, but this is not a confession for one to have self pleasure. So, I have just gotten myself the Recruit Edition as my first 40k set. While I don't necessarily plan on building and playing a SM army, I want to use my five little intercessors as practice for painting before I get to the (I think) more difficult Necrons that I will actually be playing. And of course, that brings me to the question of what color to make them.
From a bit of what I've heard, some players are very strict on "If your army is painted as x chapter, you have to play them as x chapter." To what extent is this true? Either way, I don't want to tie myself down to a specific chapter by accident before I have a chance to try them out.
So, I want to clear myself of painting my minis as any chapter with current rules. I was planning on a mix of red, white, and black, but not so much of each as to be tied to Blood Angels, White Scars, or Black Templars respectively. Any suggestions on paint schemes, or reassurances against the above? Thanks a lot.

I asked AI what “self compassion” is. I was talking to the darned thing and our conversation led it to suggest self compassion as a treatment for the topic of conversation. I feel like I need to say that talking to AI isn’t really my jam. I was mostly just curious while I waited for a friend to respond to my Snapchat.
I’ve never been a fan of trite remedies like “self care!” And “self compassion!”. What does that even mean? How does one “love themself”? How does one show oneself compassion? By default, I lean towards absolute self deprecation and annihilation in most cases so it’s especially difficult for me to understand what these things are despite how incredibly vague they are to begin with. (I’m reading a book right now, and it says that for people like me, words like “self care” wouldn’t make sense because when we were in great need, we were abused or neglected instead. The book went on to explain that people like me perpetuate our initial abuse because we have no other skills. While I don’t want this to be true, it resonated pretty deeply.)
The AI explained that self compassion means to treat myself the way I treat my friends. This was initially, kind of threatening. I don’t think I am a particularly good friend. Nor do I think I am especially kind. However, I do know that I would never speak to them the way that I speak to myself. I would never harm my friends the way that I harm myself. (Remember that song by Mindless Self Indulgence “Never wanted to dance”…… there is nothing you can do that I have not already done to myself…). I feel like I need to admit that I do get mouthy when I’m angry. It takes a lot to push me to that point and by the time I have arrived at mouthing off, I’ve shut my mouth so many times before that I simply can’t hold it in anymore. When I do open my mouth, it’s like everything I’ve been suppressing flies out. In retrospect, it seems like a safer alternative to just set a boundary the first time something happens, so that this doesn’t happen. I wish it were that simple. I’ve tried to set boundaries and express hurt feelings but somehow, I wind up being in trouble or disregarded or gaslit into thinking I have done something wrong. So it’s complicated. It’s not just a matter of me being undisciplined and feral. Again…. Past abuse, present abuse and a lot of PTSD.
I’ve spent a long time not wanting to be someone whose whole personality was about their past abuse. The irony is that, because I have not dealt with so much, my internal workings have merely picked up where my abusers left off. I degrade myself so thoroughly and constantly that when I receive outside criticism, it feels like I am being stabbed. I am overly humiliated; furious with myself for being weak and worthless and I punish myself for not being “good”. There is rarely a time when I am not at war with myself. I just want to feel “okay” but I don’t know how to do that in a healthy way. I set unrealistic expectations for myself and when I don’t meet them, I abuse myself more. I imagine that’s why “words of affirmation” and “touch” move me so deeply (though I don’t really believe in that stuff). I imagine this is also why I am such an easy target for dangerous people.
The really sick thing is that abusers reflect what I think and feel about myself and they do to me what I do to myself. What a cycle. Because I have no sense of identity beyond “I am worthless, discardable, unlovable and useless”, I rely heavily on what other people tell me about myself or how they treat me. This deepens my hatred for myself because they are proving what I have already known.
I once read that if you were raised in an abusive home or encountered abuse in your timeline-if someone or something “feels like home”…. Run. It’s a red flag. We only know our own experiences so if something feels familiar or comfortable, it means it’s probably dangerous. For people like me anyway.
I’ve noticed that when I encounter a circumstance that is naturally painful, I don’t experience it singularly. I experience everything painful I have been through all at once. I don’t know why that happens. I don’t want to feel like shit all the time. I don’t even want to relive everything…. It just happens.
I’m afraid I am too broken. But I’ve found a few workbooks that say they can help with some of this stuff so I’m going to try it because I don’t know how much longer I can live like this. Obviously, I am also seeking outside help.
Anyway, I’m going to journal here as I sort through this stuff. I don’t have the concentration to write in a real diary and while it seems a bit odd to chronicle this stuff publicly, writing in my diary feels like I am further immersing myself in…. Myself. And I don’t really want to be alone with these thoughts. So here’s to entry One.

I’ve never been a fan of trite remedies like “self care!” And “self compassion!”. What does that even mean? How does one “love themself”? How does one show oneself compassion? By default, I lean towards absolute self deprecation and annihilation in most cases so it’s especially difficult for me to understand what these things are despite how incredibly vague they are to begin with. (I’m reading a book right now, and it says that for people like me, words like “self care” wouldn’t make sense because when we were in great need, we were abused or neglected instead. The book went on to explain that people like me perpetuate our initial abuse because we have no other skills. While I don’t want this to be true, it resonated pretty deeply.)
The AI explained that self compassion means to treat myself the way I treat my friends. This was initially, kind of threatening. I don’t think I am a particularly good friend. Nor do I think I am especially kind. However, I do know that I would never speak to them the way that I speak to myself. I would never harm my friends the way that I harm myself. (Remember that song by Mindless Self Indulgence “Never wanted to dance”…… there is nothing you can do that I have not already done to myself…). I feel like I need to admit that I do get mouthy when I’m angry. It takes a lot to push me to that point and by the time I have arrived at mouthing off, I’ve shut my mouth so many times before that I simply can’t hold it in anymore. When I do open my mouth, it’s like everything I’ve been suppressing flies out. In retrospect, it seems like a safer alternative to just set a boundary the first time something happens, so that this doesn’t happen. I wish it were that simple. I’ve tried to set boundaries and express hurt feelings but somehow, I wind up being in trouble or disregarded or gaslit into thinking I have done something wrong. So it’s complicated. It’s not just a matter of me being undisciplined and feral. Again…. Past abuse, present abuse and a lot of PTSD.
I’ve spent a long time not wanting to be someone whose whole personality was about their past abuse. The irony is that, because I have not dealt with so much, my internal workings have merely picked up where my abusers left off. I degrade myself so thoroughly and constantly that when I receive outside criticism, it feels like I am being stabbed. I am overly humiliated; furious with myself for being weak and worthless and I punish myself for not being “good”. There is rarely a time when I am not at war with myself. I just want to feel “okay” but I don’t know how to do that in a healthy way. I set unrealistic expectations for myself and when I don’t meet them, I abuse myself more. I imagine that’s why “words of affirmation” and “touch” move me so deeply (though I don’t really believe in that stuff). I imagine this is also why I am such an easy target for dangerous people.
The really sick thing is that abusers reflect what I think and feel about myself and they do to me what I do to myself. What a cycle. Because I have no sense of identity beyond “I am worthless, discardable, unlovable and useless”, I rely heavily on what other people tell me about myself or how they treat me. This deepens my hatred for myself because they are proving what I have already known.
I once read that if you were raised in an abusive home or encountered abuse in your timeline-if someone or something “feels like home”…. Run. It’s a red flag. We only know our own experiences so if something feels familiar or comfortable, it means it’s probably dangerous. For people like me anyway.

This is literally my favorite game at the moment. The devs have made so many amazing changes, content and experiences to the sandbox in the past two years and for that I give them a standing applause, bravo!
But no matter how many cool things the devs give us or awe inspiring adventures randomized rewards make this feel pointless. Please devs if you’re going to give us something to chase give us a path to do it even if it takes a long time. We shouldn’t be at the whims of random number generators. It’s a gut wrenching feeling to have an amazing run in an activity get really high scores and get nothing but low stat armor. It feels empty to find a chest in a hidden location and just get glimmer or nothing at all. It’s defeating to have a great build that’s just missing a legendary weapon with a certain perk, red border or exotic that no matter how many times you try you never get or can’t get. The thing is I’m not a game dev with decades of experience so I don’t know the ways of how to solve these things. But please devs solve this problem and make this a better experience for us!
Randomness in this game is the highest joy when it comes to the wild experiences we have but the deepest depths of despair when it comes to rewards.

I have 8 chickens. They were laying in the nesting boxes but we let them run free during the day and they also run in the neighbors yard. The only thing we feed them is treats like oatmeal, sunflower seeds, or fruits and veggies. Their main diet is whatever they eat in the yard. They like to lay all over the properties but id like them to lay in the coop. We’ve had a couple of rat snakes in the coop that we had to remove. We had put 2 fake eggs to encourage them to lay in there and it seemed to be working until the last snake swallowed the fake eggs and a real one. I cleaned the boxes and proceeded to put new shavings. They kicked it all out an we haven’t had any eggs laid in the coop since the last snake. I’m thinking of pinning them up in the coop to encourage them to lay there.
1) should I get more fake eggs? 2) should I clean out underneath where they sleep? It’s just got a ton of crap piling up. 3) what do I feed them during their time in jail? We fed them the tractor supply stuff earlier this year and it killed some of the older chickens. I saw something about fermented corn or something but I’m not sure how to do that. 4) going forward, are there any suggestions for keeping them happy and healthy and popping out the eggs? I know at least 5 maybe 6 are reds but I haven’t any idea what the other 2 are.

I’m an administrative staff member for a selective private university in the US. I’ve been in my role for a year and have been feeling kinda meh in my position but am not sure why.
I just wanted to know what some red flags are that indicate that a staff member is undervalued in their organization or that the org may not be a good fit?
I’m really unfamiliar with this field since I’m the first in my family to go to college in the US and the only one working in Higher Ed. Any advice helps!

2023.06.10 03:22 Rezkel Killed the Helltide boss....Honestly not really worth it.
I did it with a random guy and two others who kill stole showed up towards the end, and I got some roses and around fifty aberration stones (i know i had 75 before the fight and a little over 150 after, plus random monsters that showed up) , with how long it too, I honestly don't think its worth it, unless you roll in with a full group. It would be much faster to just kill groups and open glowing chests. Also side note WHY ARE FORGOTTEN STONES SO HARD TO FIND GUIDE DANG IT.
