2023.06.09 23:31 GuessableSevens My final (and very controversial) NBA Draft Lottery Board
Preamble This draft ranking does not reflect who I believe will be taken at each draft position, nor which player fits best with each team at each draft position. This draft ranking is solely a reflection of who I think should be taken in each draft position based on their
most likely (read: median or 50th percentile) outcome. My draft philosophy generally values players based on how well I think they would do on a typical NBA championship contending roster. I typically value shooting a lot, because historically it matters a lot.
TLDR:
- Wemby
- Scoot
- Brandon Miller
- Taylor Hendricks
- Kobe Bufkin
- Cason Wallace
- Anthony Black
- Brice Sensabaugh
- Gradey Dick
- Jordan Hawkins
- Amen Thompson
- Jarace Walker
- Cam Whitmore
- Derek Lively
Long form:
1. Victor Wembanyama: I think he has a very clear path to be the greatest defensive player of all time. His improvement on the defensive end this season from Game 1 to Game 48 was utterly remarkable, and I think he profiles to be a top 5-10 Centre in the league as a rookie on the back of this ability alone. I think his offense needs a lot of work, and while it’s possible he could become an unstoppable force on that end, I don’t really see him reaching the heights of KAJ or Hakeem or Shaq. He doesn’t really have any moves to get him easy points, and NBA teams will soon figure out that undersized PFs with a strong and low centre of gravity (PJ Tucker, Al Horford, Draymond Green, OG Anunoby types) can get into his body and completely take him out of the game. He never really figured out how to overcome these defenders this season in France, whereas he improved in every other respect. Aside from that, I think the shooting will become very good with time, and I think it will be a privilege to watch his career. Oh, and I have no real injury concerns, nor would they change my evaluation of him when his ceiling and floor are both this high.
2. Scoot Henderson: I think he’s going to be a franchise PG, simple as that. Will he reach the top echelon (top 5-10 player in the league) or not, I don’t know. However, I need a PG who has a good handle, who has athleticism, who has good vision and playmaking, and who can shoot off the dribble. While most will not be impressed by his 3P shooting numbers, he shot 31% from 3P off the dribble (NBA 3P line), and 42% on small volume catch and shoots. He also shot 38% from midrange on the highest volume in the entire class, which would be 4th best behind Sensabaugh, JHS, and Cason Wallace. If he can hit C&S 3s, and he is a great midrange pull-up shooter, I believe the pull-up 3P shooting will come around. He’s also a rock defensively when he’s engaged. This is not really a discussion imo.
3. Brandon Miller: I’m lower on Miller than some, but I still think it’s impossible to deny what he accomplished this season. I like his premium shooting, positional size, and the fact that he has no glaring holes. I think there is very little argument for him to be above Scoot, because he just does not have on-ball juice as a lead handler. He has a good handle for his size and he can make basic reads, but he’s not going to be a guy who can get to the rim 20 times a night like Scoot can. Yes, he has a high floor because he will always have his shooting, but a 3 & D player or #2/3 option is much less valuable than a star lead handler (Ja Morant is more valuable than Khris Middleton).
4. Taylor Hendricks: Taylor Hendricks has three major strengths – high level rim protection (especially as a secondary rim protector), excellent switchability and versatility, and excellent shooting for the PF position. In today’s NBA, on a contending team, that literally the only three things you need from your perfect PF role player. Unlike many of the players I’ve ranked lower, Hendricks only has to continue to do what he already does well in order to be a valuable player for a contending team. His weaknesses – on-ball creation, handle, iffy-but-passable finishing on layups – are not things I NEED from him to feel good about him. If you told me those things will not improve for him until his 5th or 6th year of his career, it still wouldn’t change my mind. As long as his strengths translate (and I think they will), he will be a top 5-10 PF in the league for a long time IMO. That’s worth a top 5 pick to me, even if he won’t be a lead creator.
5. Kobe Bufkin: For me, Bufkin and Hendricks are neck and neck, and I would be fine with either one being #4. With Bufkin, Michigan was +10 with him on the floor and -11 with him off this season. He shot 40% from 3P after his first 5 games this year, and he shoots 85% from the line. He shoots 70% at the rim, and 66% at the rim in the half court. These are all elite numbers. He also shot 37.5% from midrange pull-ups, which is Scoot-tier (albeit on half the volume). Lastly, he shot 34.5% on pull-up 3s, which is solid and very valuable for a guard prospect. I also love that Bufkin just has amazing hands, I liken him a bit to Kyrie, though of course he isn’t that level. Defensively he is a rock, he’s got good positional size, he’s a solid athlete, his passing vision is good-not-great but he’s a score-first guard, and he’s freshman-aged despite being a sophomore. Overall, I guess I just think he’s possibly the most skilled guard in the class, and he has everything else.
6. Cason Wallace: Wallace has been miscast as a “defense-first” guard IMO. He offers excellent defense at the guard position, but he’s also just a great point guard. I think people underrate his shooting – 35% from 3P, including 33% on pull-ups and a staggering 45% on midrange pull-up 2s. At the rim, he shoots 65% which is excellent, and 56% on halfcourt layups which is not quite Bufkin-tier, but the same as Scoot. Essentially, I have no concerns about Wallace’s scoring ability in the NBA – the 3P shot will improve and he’s already great everywhere else. I think his passing vision is a good even if not elite, and he makes the right reads almost everytime. His defense is better than Bufkin’s but I also think he’s become overrated – he doesn’t have the physique to be a Marcus Smart or Jrue Holiday. He’s just going to be a solid POA defender, get steals, get blocks, and make smart rotations on defense while giving you some switching. I understand the qualms about his shot creation ability because he doesn’t really pop off the page, but I think it’s being overstated – he can drive and get to the rim, even through the bad spacing he had to deal with. Also, realistically, most guards use a screen in today’s NBA anyway.
7. Anthony Black: AB has two elite skills – perimeter defense, and vision/playmaking. If you haven’t seen the Maui invitational, I highly recommend – specifically his 4th Q performance against Creighton. This guy does not miss any reads. He’s an absolute gifted passer, and he’s over sized. I think on a team with a good roll man, he is going to be a devastating PnR passing threat. He’s got good athleticism to get to the rim and he’s a monster on defense. The shooting will always be a question with him, and I am not optimistic. If I felt better about his ugly ass form and ability to hit 3s, I might even have him at #4. Unfortunately, pull-up 3P and 2P shooting matters a lot for NBA guards, and I’m not sure how good he can really get at those. Still, I think his game is extremely similar to Josh Giddey except more athletic and much better defensively, so I think he has a good role to play in today’s NBA.
8. Brice Sensabaugh: I think it has become lost on us how elite Sensabaugh is as a shooter and scorer. He shot a blistering 52.6% on pull-up 2s on high volume, and shot 40% from 3 (only 26% on pull-up 3s, which I cannot explain other than the fact that it was low volume). He is a gifted scoring prospect, and these are KD/Derozan tier numbers. His defense is bad, but if you watch the film, it’s largely when he’s not engaged/focused. Doesn’t get into his stance, doesn’t pay attention to rotations, etc. However, late game and early game (i.e. when he is focused), I was surprised at how adept he was as a post-defender and I would even say he had decent lateral movement when he was in his stance. I think the offensive upside is so high that he merits a pick here, and a bet that he can be a focused defender in a more limited role playing less minutes. AJ Griffin was a similarly horrific defender last season in addition to being a highly skilled scorer, and his defense has been totally fine this past year. I think at #8, the upside you get if you can coach him to be engaged defensively like Griffin is worth the swing. To be clear, if he was a plus defender, I’d have him over Brandon Miller at #3.
9. Gradey Dick: Everyone knows about the elite shooting with prospects like this. The question is always “what about the defense and the rest?”. To me, Dick is actually a plus defender, I don’t understand why his defense is so hated. He moves his feet excellently, he’s got good positional size, he’s scrappy, and he gets steals. Ultimately, this is your SG – there’s only so much you can ask of defense from that position. He is an adept cutter, plays with a high IQ, he’s athletic, finishes well at the rim… I honestly don’t know what there is to not like. He takes the odd midranger and attacks closeouts well too. This type of player is never going to be a star, but I view him as a Kevin Huerter-type. If he puts on muscle, I could even be convinced that he could be better than Huerter. Kevin Huerter is easily worth a #9 overall pick.
10. Jordan Hawkins: Hawkins is probably the best shooter in the class IMO. He is also a plus defender, probably better than Dick. The reason I don’t have him above Dick is because I don’t think his IQ is as high as Dick’s. He’s not the same level cutter, he isn’t as good at making the next pass or attacking closeouts, he’s not gonna crash the class and get a clutch rebound the way Dick does, and he’s a year older. Still a valuable role player.
11. Amen Thompson: Flat out – I put >50% chance Amen is going to be a bust. I buy his athleticism, but that’s about it. I agree he has some passing vision, but it’s super overrated IMO. A lot of it is transition (near worthless to me), and within the halfcourt he has some flashy highlights, but I don’t even know if he’s a smart decision-maker in the PnR, because we didn’t really see him face good PnR defenses in OTE. I don’t see him finishing around 7 footers, or making difficult passes to the roll man. Despite his athleticism, if you watch the OTE Finals series, he actually struggles to beat his defender in crunch time, which makes you wonder how that’ll go in the NBA. The shooting is broken as hell, I don’t think itll ever come around since he’s been working on it for 2 years and it hasn’t improved. The handle is loose, the motor is not high and he didn’t exactly dominate OTE… he’s older too. I just think he’s going to bust, simple as that. On the off-chance I’m wrong about his passing, and he sorts out his aggressiveness issues and puts more pressure on the rim in the NBA, I think he’s worth a flyer in this range. I think he’s a huge mistake as a top 5 pick though, he’s not an NBA player today or in the near future.
12. Jarace Walker: Some will be confused as to why I have Walker so far behind Hendricks. I think Walker has a high chance of busting, and I don’t consider them to be the same caliber of prospect. To begin, he is not a great point-of-attack defender, unlike Hendricks (despite Walker being smaller). He gets blown by way too often, and this will only get worse in the NBA. Interestingly, when Caitlin Cooper did a breakdown of his game, I noticed she didn’t mention or notice this at all but I care about this a lot. For this reason, despite being smaller than Hendricks, he’s also not as switchable (Hendricks is the better lateral mover). I do agree he is a breath-taking helpside rim protector, so that makes up for it a little. I also think he has good IQ on both ends which helps. Offensively though, I think people will be disappointed. The shot just doesn’t fall for him, and FTs are an issue too. He has the perfect physique to play bully ball and put guys under the rim, but he just doesn’t. He plays remarkably soft for a guy with his build, it almost reminds me of Deandre Ayton – a guy who should be physically dominant but just doesn’t want to be. His handle is good for a PF/C, but certainly not good enough to be a ball handler in any capacity. Yes he can pass, but when is he going to use that skill if he can’t shoot and you’re not going to be running sets for him? I cannot imagine taking the ball out of a lead point guard’s hands to give isolation or PnR reps to Jarace Walker lol. People talk about the Draymond role all the time, but that’s a pipe dream. There have been 100 prospects since Draymond Green who we think will work as well as Draymond does, and they never do. Especially not Jarace, since he has some defensive flaws with his slow lateral movement, while Green is near flawless as a defender and played with the greatest shooters of all-time. Personally, I think Walker can be attacked on defense or in the PnR, and I think you can help off him because he isn’t a credible shooting threat, so I think he has significant bust potential.
13. Cam Whitmore: This is another guy I think has high bust potential. Cam’s elite skill is that he is an explosive one-footed leaper, and he can be a big threat driving to the rim in a straight line. Unfortunately, you need a lot more than that to be a real NBA player. For a guy who makes his living at the rim, for some reason he has a really low FTr which I can’t explain. His biggest red flag is his ball stopping nature and his lack of feel for the game/BBIQ. IF you’re going to be a ball stopper, you gotta be absolutely elite at scoring. He just isn’t. The shot looks good but his misses are so awfully bad, I have to believe he has a long way to go before he becomes a credible 3P threat, given that the NBA line is 2 feet further away. I think his top end outcome is basically Norman Powell, and I don’t think he will become good enough of a shooter or dynamic enough to get to the level of a Miles Bridges-type. On the off-chance his shooting comes around, he’s worth a swing in this range imo.
14. Derek Lively: I view him as a prospect who you feel confident in defensively, but the question will always be his role on offense. I like his defense so I think at worst he can be a bench Centre for a long time in the NBA, but you’d like more than that from a lottery pick. His finishing numbers are solid, so hopefully it’s a good sign.

2023.05.16 00:18 BeatlesElvisfan Look what I just popped in
2023.05.11 23:50 taygads Through Game 5, Steph has 111 FGAs, including 58 2FGAs, and has taken 11 FTAs. GPII has 27 FGAs, including 20 2FGAs, and has taken 7 FTAs.
| The first shot chart is Steph’s shot chart in this Lakers series. The second shot chart is his 22-23 regular season shot chart (I wanted this version of his shot chart for the Lakers series too but the website that generates these doesn’t seem to be working for playoff data just yet). As you can see, during the regular season, he shot a mind boggling 72% at the rim. In this Lakers series, he’s shooting just 48% from the restricted area. One might say well that’s because he’s going up against AD and the Lakers defense so that’s why his accuracy is so diminished. Wrong. In the regular season, Steph shot 77.8% from the restricted area against the Lakers. The only way an elite rim finisher like Steph shoots a near 30% below his average at the rim, and if you’ve watched the games then this has been obvious all series, is if the Lakers are fouling him on his attempts at the rim. Yet, he’s taken just 11 FTAs all series. If a playeteam wants FTs then they need to attack the rim… Source for stats in post title submitted by taygads to warriors [link] [comments] |
2023.05.10 22:42 TacoooJay Big reason why Jayson Tatum's consistency has seemingly gotten worse in recent years: The decline of his off the dribble 3PT shooting. His shooting % on off the dribble 3s by season: 2020 - 40%, 2021 - 36%, 2022 - 33%, 2023 - 29%.
Jayson Tatum's shooting % on off the dribble 3s by season: 2020 - 40%, 2021 - 36%, 2022 - 33%, 2023 - 29%.
Source Tatum's % on pull up 3s
2020: 40%
2021: 36%
2022: 33%
2023: 29%
This has been personally concerning for me ever since the 2022 season. I thought it might've been an outlier but then he was even worse in 2023.
So far in the playoffs, he's at a 32.7%
Tatum has never been an elite athlete or a great mid range player. His game relies heavily on "Morey ball", or shooting almost entirely 3s and layups/dunks. With his off the dribble 3 ball becoming worse and worse, it takes a huge chunk of his scoring ability away and he becomes heavily reliant on attacking the rim and drawing FTs, as we saw last night. This is problematic against a team with an elite rim protector like Embiid or Giannis/Brook, which is why he's been up and down against both teams.

2023.05.03 14:31 bigbear0083 (5/3) Wednesday's Pre-Market Stock Movers & News
Good morning traders and investors of the StockMarketChat sub! Welcome to FOMC Rate Decision Day and a frrrrrrrresh start! Here are your pre-market stock movers & news on this Wednesday, May the 3rd, 2023-
U.S. stock futures rose Wednesday as investors looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s latest policy decision.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures climbed by 45 points, or 0.13%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures rose 0.22% and 0.24%, respectively.
Ford Motor beat analysts’ expectations on the top and bottom lines in its latest quarter, as did coffee chain Starbucks. However, both stocks declined in the premarket.
The Fed is scheduled to release its latest policy announcement at 2 p.m. ET. Chair Jerome Powell is also set to hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Data from the CME Group’s FedWatch tool shows traders are pricing in an 86% chance the Fed raises rates by 25 basis points. Wall Street will also look for clues on whether the central bank will continue its rate hiking campaign, or if it will pause increases.
The announcement will come after a rough session for the market. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all fell more than 1% on Tuesday. Ongoing concerns of contagion in the regional banking sector weighed on markets following the First Republic Bank’s collapse and subsequent takeover by JPMorgan.
“There’s still pain throughout the sector,” iCapital’s Anastasia Amoroso said Tuesday on CNBC’s “Closing Bell: Overtime.” “And the reason why I think the bank action should really matter to the Fed is because, remember, in the last FOMC meeting, Fed Chair Powell really gave us new metrics to watch in terms of whether they’re going to be raising rates or not. And that is the extent of the credit tightening that’s happening in the economy.”
Corporate earnings season continues with CVS Health, Yum Brands and Spirit AeroSystems reporting results Wednesday before the open.
On the economic front, traders are anticipating the latest ADP jobs data for April. Economists polled by Dow Jones expect a rise of 133,000 jobs last month.
The S&P Global U.S. Services PMI data for April is also due. It’s expected to show a reading at 53.7 last month, which is in line with the prior month. April’s ISM non-manufacturing PMI data is forecasted to show 51.8, according to Dow Jones consensus estimates. That’s higher than the 51.2 reading from the previous month.

2023.05.03 14:30 bigbear0083 (5/3) Wednesday's Pre-Market Stock Movers & News
Good morning traders and investors of the EarningsWhispers sub!

2023.05.03 14:26 bigbear0083 (5/3) Wednesday's Pre-Market Stock Movers & News

2023.05.01 17:26 b1ackm1st (I'm mad; everybody knows it) How I'm deadlifting with bands. ___I'm going to run an experiment___ -Please join me- How DO YOU deadlift with BANDS???
Despite what folks have been trying to cram into my thick skull head (within this community), I think I'm still going to run this experiment...
A commenter left this a while back on one of my numerous deadlifting posts, which will be the basis of this post:
"Heavy 32” serious steel off of Amazon. Reasonably priced considering it will be a dedicated deadlift tool (an invaluable compound exercise)"
He (I'm assuming), goes on to mention that.....considering I'm 6"1, that a typical 41" band might be more suitable for me (just maybe)...
Most people seem to think this, for better or for worse. However, I'm not really sure where they're deriving these observations from (rather than X/Y/Z company advertisements) or what I'm doing wrong here, if I'm being honest with you.
I've just whipped this up, though:
"How are you executing your conventional deadlifts? With a bar? Handles? Hands through the loops? Wider, Sumo-style pull? Or? I'm probably going to end up ordering some of Serious Steel's 20" deadlift bands off of Amazon (I can return them if the tension curve seems off-putting, I guess), or also try their 32" band pack, also off of Amazon (easy returns as well) to test out the tension curve and manipulating the length (32" X"??) (again, I'm 6'1) to see if I can get any proper tension with my deadlifts.
One technique I've been using is wrapping a 41" band around a Clench handle once: 6" length (X2) = 12" less slack = 29" band, then pulling it conventional (not sure if that's how the math really works, -or- if it's 41" -> 82" - 12" ~70" stretch capacity; Dave Schmitz from RBT [Quantum Bands] seems to think that stretching bands beyond just 1.5X their potential is particularly compromising (my bands are 100% latex, too). SO, if that was a 20" band, 20" X 2 = 40" + 50% (+10") = <50" stretch capacity). This seems to offer satisfactory tension at the bottom range of motion (but the tension is lower, and the reps are slightly higher, which is NOT ideal for sake of deadlifting. See below)
It seems to be doing the trick, however.... if tension is high and the reps are lower (which is what I'm looking for, really, deadlifting being a strength-building exercise and not really designed for hypertrophy). I'm NOT really looking for lower tension, higher reps (but my grip strength remains overdeveloped, so looks like I might have to resort to lower tension, higher reps for now until my muscular imbalance is gone).............even so.
The tension can be overlooked, I suppose (unless it's just too much, which an EliteFTS representative did mention; the tension on the 12" Short Bands does get "really tight", especially when approaching the "Strong" and "Heavy" bands, which I'll certainly be graduating to eventually.
Seeing as the tension rated for their strongest short band: 236-341 is rated for 2 bands(!!!). So, / 2 and we're now left with 118-172lb. ea. band! AND that's at 24"-50" stretch capacity!! (50" being 4X / stretch of the entire band(???!); I'm not sure this is even safe or plausible for particular bands like this??? Which I will call and ask about today; then leave a comment as a update; you can't seem to update your original post here after a certain time frame, for some reason....so hence my commentary below).
Any and all input is greatly appreciated, and I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks for listening, yet again, and for constantly educating me with your usual fares.
Toodle Pip!

2023.04.25 08:23 Awesomeuser90 What options were there to defend the Benelux in the Second World War?
Let´s go back a bit to 1930. Let´s say that we are creating defense plans for the Benelux, Belgium, Netherlands, and also Luxembourg, against a possible attack from Germany.
What are the options?
In principle, there are 17 million people living in these kingdoms, disregarding Ruanda, Burundi, the Belgian Congo, Dutch Guiana, the Dutch Caribbean, and Indonesia. We know from experience in the First World War that you can plausibly recruit something like 10-20% of the population for war, say 15% to make it simple. That in principle should be capable of raising an army of 2.55 million soldiers with a standing army of a couple hundred thousand for guard duty and training the new conscripts per year if everyone serves say 18 months in the military sometime between 18 and 25.
Let´s also assume that we are cooperating with France and possibly the British Empire here. A mutual defense treaty and a plan for unity of command just as was learned in WW1 under Commander in Chief Ferdinand Foch should be done to guarantee these defense plans. The French have good mountain defenses on the Italian Front and a good navy plus an expeditionary contingent to Tunisia to challenge the Italians without needing too large a fraction of our armed forces if they try anything (and didn´t even join until France was already on the ropes and the Germans were near Caen), and have prepared the Maginot Line to be able to hold out until full mobilization can hold the line and avoid a disaster like the Battle of the Frontiers in 1914. With the British, a mass draft at 10% of the population of these countries should be capable of raising 10 million soldiers or so, plus at least a few hundred thousand, maybe over a million, soldiers from the colonies like the Gurkhas of India.
Germany in contrast had a major gap, when they were not allowed to conscript people from 1919 until 1935 when Hitler reintroduced it, whereas the others, especially the Low Countries and France, could have done so all this time. They had a core of elites who had some great stuff, good trucks, and good training, but a huge number of the rest weren´t that great and were weak at motorization. Wear them down more than a few months and most of those elites should be combat ineffective for a sudden thrust as the Germans did.
The Entente knew about the idea of delegation of initiative and command to NCOs, they saw firsthand how dangerous this was to them in the Kaiserschlacht and they used the idea themselves and it helped them to win in the 100 Days Offensive. Their agents saw its use in Poland and Spain. This should have been something that even contemporaneously, should be rectified in the Allied system.
The Benelux doesn´t have a lot of great natural barriers, the way that Alsace in France has heights, although there are the Limburg hills, the Ardennes Forest, though the Germans of course showed that isn´t invincible. The Dutch did have a lot of creativity with deliberately flooding certain areas to create defense lines, I imagine something similar can be done in Belgium.
The Luftwaffe flattened Rotterdam, and in the Spanish Civil War it was already apparent that terror bombing was a major risk, and the conquest of Poland would allow for a final fine-tuning of plans and lessons learned. France does have tanks, a lot of them actually, and in a head on battle they did well with actual German tanks in 1940, although France doesn´t know that yet and is mostly drawing lessons from what the Germans and Italians sent Franco and a few lessons from their FTs in places like Russia in their civil war.
My best idea is to stockpile a lot of anti aircraft artillery and radar, don´t disregard the Ardennes of course, flood basins in the east of the Netherlands and Belgium, have a mobilization plan based on total defense and mass mobilization of the whole population for war (like bunkers being everywhere), have unity of command and debureaucratize paperwork and give tanks and the other units radios as much as possible, have a crap-tonne of artillery and anti tank rifles and the ammunition to be able to use it in a giant defensive operation for months while the transition occurs (remembering that in Verdun in 10 months, they used 65 million rounds of artillery), and have defense in depth line the Hindenburg Line to help buy time and figure out where the main offensive actually is before committing reserves including tanks and trucks to the sectors most in need of them. I don´t have a lot of other ideas without knowing more about the institutions and the geography of the Benelux in more detail than this.
From what little I do know about 1940 in the Benelux in particular, the Dutch did stop the Wehrmacht from rolling over the rather small country for days and only gave up when the Luftwaffe bombed Rotterdam, and even that only happened because the Triple-A had to be somewhere else and there wasn´t enough, and the Germans needed a month to take over just Belgium, Netherlands, and a slice of Northern France. I´m thinking that even without hindsight, there should have been a lot more opportunities to defend the Western Front from the Wehrmacht than there actually was and grind down the limited supply into something much less threatening while the transition to a war economy and bringing in the whole empires was possible. Bonus points if we arm the Polish insurgents really well and if we have also succeeded in defending Norway too.

2023.04.25 01:08 b1ackm1st Resistance band length as it relates to exercise variation - 10", 12" 20", 24", 36", 38", 41" - Purposes of each - Thoughts please?
How does the stretch feel when deadlifting just at the mercy of two 20" bands? In one of the pictures, they're exemplifying deadlifting with
just the bands, and their advertisements seems to demonstrate that you don't seem to need a bar for deadlift execution. However, the effectiveness of the exercise in question remains. I'm probably going to become a test subject here (I'll probably order some and report back).
This is my understanding of different band lengths:
10": Wut??
12": Glutes and hamstrings (but also perhaps deadlifting, as well)
20": Serious Steel's deadlifting variation(s) band
24": EliteFTS's version of the 20" deadlifting variation(s) band
32": Shorter ROM movements (e.g. Bench press, floor press, hip hinge movements w/ greater emphasis on bottom-middle ROM?) + 5'10" or below (not always the case with height; even a majority of the shorter population prefer your standard 41" band for movements). Anything else?
36": Again, what seems to be EliteFTS's version of the 41" standard, they don't offer 41" bands as far as I can tell) - Anybody use these in place of your typical 41" bands?
38": Harambe system
41": Everything else
I've contacted Serious Steel about this and they sent me a an article or two and a short .PDF guide for different movements to be performed with different lengths; wasn't a really big help.
I suppose I'm more searching for anecdotal evidence or personal experiences that do in fact support this evidence. Some success stories would be helpful. As eventually, I'd like to perhaps develop a "latex fetish", as Pascal (Goblin's Gym) likes to say (hehe).
From the "Short Band Pack" series, considering the "Mini", "Monster Mini" and "Light" bands (2X each), the first three bands in this pack are 12" each. Every band thereafter appears to be 24". (Now, 24" bands on the other hand, not sure how comparable these are to Serious Steel's more deadlift-esque 20" alternative, being 4 inches shorter and all; anybody tried the SS ones or EliteFTS?).
I'm also looking into the stronger ones in the pack: "Average", "Strong" and "Heavy".
*Note: The tension measured from 24" to 50" has been calibrated utilizing
2 bands, not 1 (Unfortunately, we can't deadlift 2 "Strong" bands in ea. hand rated to be 471.2lbs - 683.4lbs. of tension,
sucks).
Anyways, anybody have any unorthodox -or- conventional methods for training with bands of 12", 20", 24", 32" or even 41" measurements? Let me know! ;)

2023.04.12 18:29 b1ackm1st Deadlifting variations -- best practices -- (ideal band length - 41" + X"?) + which EliteFTS pack is best??
So, somebody had commented on my last post a week ago or something, saying that the Harambe system (38" bands design) has significantly more resistance from the bottom-middle ROM of the movement (deadlift, and probably all other pulling movements for that matter).
I know that you can take your standard 41" loop band and reduce its length in 4 different ways (once around the foot, around the thumb + wrist, doubling up the band and there's one other way that's escaping me atm). But is this really doing much more than shortening the lifespan of your band for a negligible bottom-middle ROM increase (I'm asking(?); haven't tried this yet but I'm going to tomorrow on pull day). Anyways......another commenter said they combine a 32" Serious Steel band (it was an orange band in his case; the lightest band available in the bunch) with a conventional 41" band to obtain a "stronger force curve" at the bottom of the rep. Has anybody tried this or had any experience doing this??
Also, what, if any other lengths (13", 20", 32", or anything in between measurements), would band combining fill in the bottom-middle ROM nicely? -OR- is this entirely a waste of time.....particularly at thicker / wider band tensions, as it becomes increasingly or exponentially difficult to get in stance / setup the movement all-together. I wish to know.
Finally, which deadlift variations should be performed to properly support the force production curve of a "Pull Day" entirely predicated on resistance bands in the first place?
I haven't decided to combine this post with my other short but relevant inquiries on pretty much the same topic.
*Note: I'm not trying to flood this sub with my posts so people can notice me. I am simply a very curious person in general with many questions regarding this new topic of interest of mine, so I invite all of you to please offer your expertise here for both entertainment value and discussion. That's why we're all here after all, isn't it? :)
Thanks for listening.

2023.04.12 18:02 b1ackm1st Band textures poll: EliteFTS / Serious Steel / Undersun / Iron Infidel / Clench / Quantum
Since serious resistance band training for pull day almost necessitates a footplate plus some sturdy, well-manufactured handles, this post might as well be rendered superfluous. Albeit, I still think it's an important topic to discuss...because not always are those variables at play. Also, more posts inc. so "Hold on to your butts...!" (Jurassic Park).
EliteFTS: ???
Serious Steel: I hear they're chalky, which I suppose is good if you're using them bare-handed. I have handles and a platform I can employ if needed to offset texture and maximize stability as well (???).
Undersun: In between chalky and slippery, although they aren't really chalky at all, more so expressing the stickiness of the band and how they're sort of in between textures here in terms of.......well, they're not slippery but they're not chalky either. They're easy to grab and hold onto with bare hands and the tension profiles are pleasant as the bands stretch out, particularly during pull day.
Iron Infidel: ??? (Same as Undersun?; Not sure...)
Clench: ???
Quantum: Slippery and I don't like the tension profile of them, regardless of how low the number starts out and how high it ends up (first band; orange: 5-30lb. not a fan, honestly. (actually, I much prefer the tension profile of Undersun bands, thus far). I'm going to try them with handles and a platform to see if that makes them any more likeable / viable for my tastes. If not, I don't want to keep them. Anybody know if Clench is any better or is slightly different in either department? Would help to get a comparison with the texture and tension profiles, would be greatly appreciated.

2023.04.08 05:49 senor_zanjeer Kyrie being the cause of Dallas Problems is an asinine take
Im no Kyrie defender by any means. If i was, he would be putting up WILT numbers rn.
Kyrie has been toxic cancer to the Celtics and Nets. This is well documented and there is no ambiguity there. But dude is going to be seen as the scapegoat in Dallas.
Cuban, Kidd, Luka are all to blame for whats going on Dallas.
People forget that Luka was putting up insane video game numbers only for the Mavericks to be .500 team. Thats an inditement on Cuban. He fucked up the Brunson thing hard. Also trading away DFS and signing McGee were also terrible
Kidd is awful. Dallas has choked so many leads this year. They lose all the time to teams that are injured. The Wood thing is weird. Its wild to me that Monty Williams choked so hard against this man last year
Luka's whining, defense and clutch shooting have been hurting Dallas year. His obsession with reffing is psychotic. Taking off defensive possessions to complain even though he shoots so many FTs is inane. If any african-american acted like he did, it would be a riot. But Luka is just super-passionate. He also has missed a crap ton of Game Winners and Game Tying shots. People will remember the Knicks FT shot but forget all the 6-7 times he has cost the Mavericks game with his terrible shot selection at the end.
That being said, Kyrie is acting a little weird out in Dallas He is barking at fans more. Complaining to refs more. Talking trash more. Basketball wise, that flat earther anti-semite used to be one of the best players to watch. Smoothest handles, elite shot making, no foul baiting, and zero complaining. My guess is that Kyrie retires in 2024.

2023.04.08 00:23 QUESTOTHETOP1 GAME 80 TAKEAWAYS
Really in the home stretch of the season now. Another expected loss against a team that actually was trying in the Hawks as they had something to play for. Here are my 5 takeaways from that game:
- Gafford had a career night against the Hawks. Had a 25 and 10 game. He was absolutely throwing down monstrous dunks, and snagging offensive boards and going immediately up against Capela or Okongwu to throw it down! An underrated part of Gaff's game was that he shot 9-9 from the FT line in this game! That is also a career high for Gaff for FTs made in a game. If he can consistently shoot at a high level from the FT line (75%+), maybe he should start seriously focusing on a mid range shot too this summer. Would add a nice bit to his already loaded arsenal for moves around the rim and in the restricted area. He also had 2 blocks to go along with everything else. He was dominant, and not a single player on the Hawks looked like they even wanted to challenge Gaff. Good for the Landlord.
- JD had another career night as he put up 20 points again. He also had 7 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals and 2 blocks. He stuffed the stat sheet one night after doing it just the night before. We are really seeing the emergence of JD, and sure he is getting the ball a ton in his hands, but there are players who are given like 20 shots and aren't able to put up the numbers that he's putting up. The biggest key for JD will be getting a consistent three point and mid range shot. If he can do that, he will have a spot on this team. His three point shot is a bit janky, but I expect it to be fixed this summer. He already said that he's going to put in a ton of work on his body this summer, so I expect his shot to be another thing that will be worked on. It's causing a lacklaster performance from three and from the FT line too. He got most of his shots from floaters and mid range which is how he's been getting them as of late. Nice to see consistency from the Rook!
- Another downer game for Kispy. He did get 12 points, but he was uncharacteristically COLD from the field. 5-12, 2-8 from three, and missed BOTH of his FTs in a row. He was taking decent shots, but it just seemed like his shots weren't going in. I hope that with coming back home, he can get back on a heater and finish this season strong. Most of his points were on cuts to the basket, and he did can 2 triples, but it would be nice to see Corey finish really strong to the season. Regardless of what happens in these next 2 games, Corey is guaranteed a spot where he'll get 25-30 minutes a night on this roster next year because of how lights out he is shooting from beyond the arc, and because of how much this team desperately needs three point shooting.
- It was another great "almost highlight" night from QJ. Dude clearly has ridiculous athleticism, but whether it's because of nerves or something else, he is missing his crazy dunks that everyone has gotten accustomed to seeing him do in the G League. To QJ's credit, he did again match his career high of 10, and score creatively around the basket this time as he only shot 2 FTs, so he had to actually score rather than get bailed out by the whistle. His shot is yet to fall, but if his long ball starts falling, he's going to be a nice addition to have, because he adds an element of athleticism, quickness, and shiftiness that this team lacks.
- Made it too easy for Trae tonight. 25 and 16 for Ice Trae tonight. We let him draw 10+ fouls on us and he shot 18 FTs tonight. We fell time and time again for his foul baiting moves. Going to be key for JD to learn how to play players like Trae, DeMar, and CP3 who put food on the table by foul baiting. He did the best he could, but he will have a lot of tape to watch this summer if he wants to grow on defense and become one of the best perimeter defenders on this team. I guess you can argue he's already there, but besides Delon, it's not like we have any elite defenders. I guess I'm saying going from being an okay perimeter defender to an ELITE perimeter defender. We also played 0 defense in the first quarter and let the Hawks can like 7 triples, and our defense really just never recovered after that. We tried to make an adjustment and shut off threes, but then we opened our paint wide open, and Trae feasted throwing up lob after lob to ATL's athletic bigs. It is what it is.
A great loss for the Tank. Unfortunately POR didn't come through, and pulled a tank job of the century sort of game to lose to SAS. It puts us tied for sixth best odds I believe. At this point we gotta pray that ORL somehow loses another game, and that we stay true to the path. Looking forward to seeing the rooks, young guys, and G Leaguers showing out the last 2 games. Love what I'm seeing from J Huff and QJ. They look like they can legit get minutes next year on the roster as third stringers. Huff in particular has impressed me with his soft shooting touch for a big man and his impact on defense. Almost like a mini KP minus the mid range and post game. Anyway, excited for the last 3 days of the season.

2023.04.05 04:40 Nepiton The 76ers have figured it out. They have our number
This Sixers win is The Process
TM realized. Their front office’s hard work and skill in drafting and asking the fan base to Trust The Process
TM this whole time. This is the culmination of all that effort.
The puzzle pieces have all fallen in place. At this point should we just hand the Sixers the keys to the city? The blueprint is so brilliant, if you weren’t a basketball expert I wouldn’t blame you for not seeing it.
It’s simple, all it takes is:
- Celtics sit their top 20 in the league super star player
- Celtics also sit their elite interior defender
- Celtics MVP and top 5 league player has an off night and doesn’t get many/any of the foul calls the 76ers MVP does
- 76ers MVP has a ridiculously efficient 52 point on 25 FG night
- Celtics shoot barely over 40% from the floor and miss 6 FTs (62.5% from the line, 1 intentional miss)
- 76ers
blowout win
GG Sixers, we should’ve trusted The Process

2023.03.31 18:22 b1ackm1st Best loop band consensus? -- Quantam, Clench, Rubberbanditz, Undersun, EliteFTS, Rogue, etc. etc.
I have Undersun Fitness (molded). I also have the first 4 lightest bands from Rubberbanditz.
Honestly, I find Undersun Fitness tension profiles to be more favorable than Rubberbanditz (their first band starts off rather heavy). Also, Rubberbanditz are not really fun to workout with, not a fan of their tension profiles and just they way they stretch in general. Pardon my lack of terminology here, this is my first post on this sub.
(I should probably also specify these are all your standard 41" loop resistance bands, as I have not began the foray into different length resistance bands (i.e. monster-mini, 13" bands specified for deadlifts and such, which do seem really cool; am pretty ignorant when it comes to any other length other than 41")
Happy to be here, as I'm really going to start training more with bands / calisthenics in different environments to switch up the ol' mundane DB bench press and such exercises.
**Can anybody attest to the actual quality of Quantam and Clench? Are those honestly god-tier, S-tier 10/10, crème of the crop....... or is it just fake word-of-mouth marketing masqueraded as advertising bots (hopefully you get what I'm saying.....)? Because I'm about to order a full set of each to test them out. I would imagine they would be really rubbery/silicone-y, elastic with amazing tension profiles, smooth tension transitions, etc. etc. and just really a joy to use, also amazing durability and a warranty to match, of course.**
Now, I could be wrong. What am I missing? Was thinking about ordering some EliteFTS as well just for the sake of comparison. Also open to any other bands that you would consider to be the absolute best out there (without the hype, lol). Look forward to posting more here, also, thanks for being around. Appreciate you guys.
TL;DR: I currently have and use Undersun Fitness (molded, but significant upgrade from SUNPOW) loop bands. I also have Rubberbanditz and I'm not really a fan of them to be honest (although they are supposed to be purportedly better, being layered latex, although they are much chalkier comparably to Undersun's slippier-type finish). Quantum, Clench (same layered latex, or higher quality??) I'm looking for the best; looking to start training more resistance bands and calisthenics and rotate the environments which I train in. Any and all help / advice would be appreciated. I look forward to posting here more. Thank you so much and Happy Friday(!), appreciate you guys.
EDIT:
New post directed toward Harambe bands (just the resistance bands; no accompanying system). The same but different. Thanks.
