After 4 years, I got upgrade-itis. submitted by ItsallLegos to hometheater [link] [comments] Upgrades: 1) Replacing two (out of 4, other 2 are GSG martysubs I built with UM-18s) tekton cinemasubs (posting for sale tomorrow or Tuesday) with two GSG 19hz Devastators with NSW-6021 drivers. Found the devs from a seller I’ve bought from before and it was a 6 hr drive each way. Made the trip Saturday. 2) Denon x4400h receiver + Sony N9000ES (for front stage) —> Arcam AV40 + Tonewinner AD-8300. 3) Replacing the NX6000D with a CVR D-3004 power amp. Running a new 240v 30A line for this. The amp will power the devs and the martysubs. I’ll have to reduce the max voltage on the DSP so it doesn’t kill the Ultimax drivers. 4) Replacing the front soundstage (Ascend Accoustics CMT-340SE) with DIYSG 1099s. They’re still being built. Currently in the sanding phase. 5) in the future the plan is to replace the surrounds and atmos speakers with other DIYSG speakers (if/when they come back in stock) or something similar that will timbre match the front soundstage. Denon receiver, Sony power amp, Ascend front sound stage are going in the living room. Good times. Stay tuned! |

My brothers girlfriend moved in a few months ago. She got in to a big fight with her family and they kicked her out. Shes not 18 yet and just finishing high school and my mom felt really bad for her. My brother is only 19. My mom had two rules ,she'd contribute 200$ in rent and she'd sleep in her own room.
Im nearly 30, I live with my parents and pay them market rent , it's convenient from me as i travel out of the country for half the year for work.
A short background: Everything was fine at first, then my brothers girlfriend started monopolizing the bathroom and started doing an insane amount of laundry (like 3 loads a day washing stuffed animals, blankets, etc, everyday) . A few weeks later the washer broke. We have two washer and dryers in our house and so the situation was that the washer that was in my brothers room worked and the dryer in the basement worked . My brother knew we might go in his room to do laundry when he decided to move in to the room with the laundry machine . So anyways the laundry situation was difficult for a while and we tried not to disturb my brother. Then at somepoint my brothers girlfriend offered to have a friend come over and move the washer to the basement . When her friend arrived she told my mom her friend would only move the washer down stairs if my mom let her also move the dryer downstairs. My mom didnt agree.The became a big problem cause my brother wasnt letting us do laundry , at one point he would tell us to leave cloths at the door and he would put out wet cloths in the hallway the next day for us to dry. This created a huge hassle for everyone.The girlfriend started getting nasty with my mom dad and me , constantly slamming doors especially when we tried to talk to her or my brother she'd slam the door in our face.
My mom gave her an eviction notice. She tried to "improve" cleaned the bathroom once and started sleeping in her room which was what was originally agreed to.
My parents went away on a vacation then my brother invited an only fans porn star over to have a orgy . I was home and had to listen to obnoxiously loud sex till 3 am , then i heard puking all night./ Tried to drown it out with music.I told my parents , they confronted my brother and girlfriend , the girlfriend gloated to my parents about the orgy . My parents told her she needs to leave .
My brother and girlfriend are now staying somewhere else but left all their stuff at my parents house.
This weekend my brother was gonna have a yard sale to sell their shit, at 10:30 pm the day before he sends a group text to my parents and myself asking my parents to move their car my parents are usually in bed by 9 , but my dad replies and says he'll do it in the morning and my brother says "Were starting setup at 4am i wouldnt suggest that" .I read as a bit confrontational and immediately reply calling out my brother and demanding he have a little respect for his parents. The next day i confront him about being confrontational with his parents and that it's bullshit that he was threatening to wake my parents up at 4am. He then called me some insult and told me he made that comment cause the noise of him moving the cars at 4am would wake my parents up. And i think he was gaslighting me cause moving the cars wouldnt wake my parents up but moving a bunch of shit out of the house at 4am to setup for a yard sale would. I didnt reply and just dropped it. I feel like maybe i overreacted . But then again he was pretty damn rude and i would never talk that way to my parents .
So reddit how do you deal with this shit? Is it the age? I remember being 18 once and i still would never treat my parents like this. And if my girlfriend acted this way towards my family , she wouldnt be my girlfriend anymore. I love my brother and really wish he would leave this witch ..but i know that is out of my control.

Day 6 for me. I’ve smoked on and off for years, but never felt addicted to cigarettes (went months without smoking many times over the years without trying) HOWEVER I have had an addiction to nicorette for 15+ years and finally quit cold turkey 6 days ago. I used to take 5-10mg a day. Picked up the habit on a whim, became addicted in my 20’s and could never find the right time to quit. But I’ve done it and now I’m looking for some companionship at the moment, just want to know if this is a normal part of withdrawal and will go away..?
I feel this void, almost like I need to be comforted (I want my mom, want comfort food, want to be hugged, etc) and I feel a really deep sadness/grief that kind of reminds me of homesickness when you’re staying in a completely unfamiliar place and you just want to go home cause you miss your bed and your family. Hi guys,
My Epiphone Les Paul Classic 2020 (2021 model)
I own an Epiphone Les Paul Classic 2020 (2021 model). I have no complains about the playability, it's a really good and beautiful guitar for its money. Also, my wife as a birthday gift, bought me a set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers. If I install them in the Epi, the sound will come much closer to the traditional Gibson Les Paul. So, if I think mature and wise she is all I need from a Les Paul "style" guitar for a home player like me. I am not professional or making money from music or anything like that. I do play the guitar since I was 5 and now I am 36 but, always as a home player.
But, since last week I am thinking seriously to pull the trigger and buy the Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s.
I am not concerned about the sound of my Epi that much. I know that with upgrading the pickups (which I already have), the pots and the nut, the sound will be more less 90% like the original Gibson one. And for bedroom volumes I use my tube amp in the house I will not be able to understand further difference.
On the other hand I have the mentality of buying the best (I can personally afford) and this is it. Keep it for a lifetime. This is the reason why the rest of my collection is with high end Fenders (American Ultra and American Professional ii) and high end Martins (HD-28V and OM-28 Modern Deluxe) so, a high end Les Paul is missing to complete the picture..? :)
To be honest all the above is brainstorming and I am sorry for the long text..
My main question of this post and the help I am asking for is if any friend in the forum has personal experience with the Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s and at the same time the Epiphone Les Pauls from 2020 and onwards in order to be in a position to compare in a fair way.
As I said above my main point is not the sound because more less 90% I can get it from the Epi. I am asking about the playability, build quality and feel. To me these elements have the same great importance like the sound.
I am certain the feel and build quality are superior in the Gibson. About the playability I don't know I am waiting for the feedback of any friend here in the forum. Unfortunately, there is no Gibson LP Standard 50s in stock in any music store in my city to go and try them side by side...
So, the difference in playability, build quality and feel is proportional to the 2,000€ price difference? Probably not but still, despite that would it be worth it to upgrade from the Epi to the Gibson?

Hey all, I’m about a year into GW2 and this might sound crazy but I’ve only played one characteprofession up to this point, which is my Daredevil Thief. I’m not much of an altaholic - I tend to get invested in a specific character and play it for a long time. I’m working on finishing up EoD and will then have 100% completed all maps and story, at which point I’m looking to finally create a 2nd character.

I have no complains about the playability, it's a really good and beautiful guitar for its money. Also, my wife as a birthday gift, bought me a set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers. If I install them in the Epi, the sound will come much closer to the traditional Gibson Les Paul. So, if I think mature and wise she is all I need from a Les Paul "style" guitar for a home player like me. I am not professional or making money from music or anything like that. I do play the guitar since I was 5 and now I am 36 but, always as a home player. But, since last week I am thinking seriously to pull the trigger and buy the Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s. I am not concerned about the sound of my Epi that much. I know that with upgrading the pickups (which I already have), the pots and the nut, the sound will be more less 90% like the original Gibson one. And for bedroom volumes I use my tube amp in the house I will not be able to understand further difference. On the other hand I have the mentality of buying the best (I can personally afford) and this is it. Keep it for a lifetime. This is the reason why the rest of my collection is with high end Fenders (American Ultra and American Professional ii) and high end Martins (HD-28V and OM-28 Modern Deluxe) so, a high end Les Paul is missing to complete the picture..? :) To be honest all the above is brainstorming and I am sorry for the long text.. My main question of this post and the help I am asking for is if any friend in the forum has personal experience with the Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s and at the same time the Epiphone Les Pauls from 2020 and onwards in order to be in a position to compare in a fair way. As I said above my main point is not the sound because more less 90% I can get it from the Epi. I am asking about the playability, build quality and feel. To me these elements have the same great importance like the sound. I am certain the feel and build quality are superior in the Gibson. About the playability I don't know I am waiting for the feedback of any friend here in the forum. Additionally, I felt the temperature of the room perfectly. The texture of the sofa was similar to leather and I sank right into it like it's stuffed with gel.
I didn't see any faces or learn any names. The voice sounded hard to distinguish as male or female and was somewhat robotic. The presentation involved imagery that was strictly familiar to me so I didn't get to see any aliens in it either
What makes think the room was a ufo was it's odd oval shape and the absence of sharp corners. The floor neatly blended into the wall which blended into the ceiling etc

I’m going to break this post into 2 parts because this is a long post. It’s just so difficult for me to explain things with as little words as possible!… So sorry in advance
Anyways, the 1st part is my perspective on things and how the relationship is going you could say this is the “context” of our relationship so far. The 2nd part is the “problem” area, and things I have been thinking about.
1st part of the post
I’ve only known this guy for a couple of months, starting from this late January to more specific, so there are already some things we know about each other. (The guy even went so far as to show his whole life album of photos he’s got, including his family. And even pictures he has from childhood at some point). The reason we even met each other is because we are study buddies, and we made an agreement to meet up at least once every week to study on the things we need to work on, and as time goes by, I think it’s natural that we’d know a few things about each other since it’s already been months. We got a lot of the same hobbies outside of the things we’re studying together, with video games being a big part of that. That makes the study sessions sometimes go from studying to just hanging out in general
This also means we’d know each other’s contact info of course, so that we can easily plan when to meet every week. For some reason, our conversations are… super long, because although we talk about when to meet, we talk about other things as well. I don’t know how it got that long, but our text messages would go like this: both of us just replies whenever it’s convenient, whether that be a week, a few hours, a few days, etc. We both have our own lives, so the time it takes for us to reply to each other is erratic. But when we “do” reply to each other, it ends up being a whole worth of paragraphs we send to each other (just like how I’m typing so many paragraphs in this post, but I’d say probably a bit smaller because I’m trying to make this post as detailed as I can lol)
Nowadays, he keeps coming up with ways to invite me to other things besides study sessions as well, including summer trips with his best friend. These invitations include going to a restaurant or cafe together to just talk and hang out, travel to different places, do each other’s hobbies like video games, etc. At this point, don’t they sound like a date?… Or are they just “friendly invitations” to hang out? Hmm. (Also, just a side question, is it rude for me to turn down his “I’ll buy you dinner” offering?.. I didn’t want him to waste his money buying food for me when I know I can buy my own food, so I ended up declining.. But I wonder if that sent the wrong signal that I wasn’t interested in him. He offered to buy dinner because I got him something that helped with his pimples when he complained about his skin condition one day lol. I just wanted to help, not get a reward lol. But now I’m a bit worried if that came off as me declining “him” in general ).
And goodness does he have a lot of energy to talk for “hours”, (or even the whole day!) both when we are studying, and when we are just hanging out. Basically, we’d both lose sleep/ruin our sleep schedules whenever we meet because we simply just can’t stop the convo momentum. I was afraid to say that I wanted to go home because it was getting late and didn’t want to interrupt him since it might be rude to stop the… convo momentum, but thankfully his family ended up calling him for other businesses. …Oh yeah, and he has introduced me to some of his family already btw, because apparently he talks about me to his family (I hope nothing embarrassing haha)
But aside from all those, I can tell that he does care about this relationship, or at least, at a friendship level. Whether or not he has thought about if there are chances of this relationship going further than study buddies or friendship, that, I do not know. However he once in a while checks how I am here and there, and reassures me that if I’m ever in trouble or need his help, that I shouldn’t be afraid to ask him, so I know he cares to some extent. He also keeps reassuring me that it is no trouble at all for him even though I tell him I’m worried I’ll be a burden to him if I ask for his help haha. There’s even jokes here and there that if I get kidnapped (don’t ask how this topic came up, we were fooling around lol ), that he’ll beat my kidnapper’s butt. It’s honestly very cute hehe
Speaking of cute, it’s also cute he remembers little details of what I say here and there whenever we have conversations. Sometimes I would vent about problems I have in regards to what we’re studying, or what’s going on in life, then he would come up with various solutions or ask about how things are the next time we meet. I don’t think a person who doesn’t care about me would even bother to listen and put in effort to remember details like those lol, so he’s a really caring guy.
(Oh goodness, eww, I’m basically gushing about him now aren’t I )
2nd part of the post
As I hung out with him more throughout these months, I find myself actually really enjoying his company, and I suppose I wouldn’t be writing about this if I wasn’t at least a little bit interested… Lol, and I’m sure it’s obvious from the previous paragraphs in the 1st part of this post. Problem is, he says he isn’t interested in getting a girlfriend. He was talking about this girl at work showing interest in him, and that he rejected them because he doesn’t want to date anyone if they are not his friend first. He “needs time to get close to someone before he wants to date, according to him. And then, later on he ended up saying he doesn’t want to date girls in general?… Hence, the “not wanting to get a girlfriend” part… Soooo that made me I wonder if I should also just back away from the idea of showing interest too… Or maybe I should just wait more because he says he needs time?
To me, he kinda talked about this topic with confusing phrases and words (maybe he just doesn’t know how to put what he feels into words yet? Idk. The topic of this came up though because he wanted to vent about this girl at work and that he feels burdened with her advances, and I certainly don’t want to add to that burden)
Also no, he said himself he is not gay, and that he is a straight man lol, and even said he wants to get married to a woman and have kids in the future … But when a someone says they don’t want to date, thennnn that looks like a “no shot” kinda thing?
Another thing I’m thinking about is if this guy is just being friendly. He could just be a really “nice guy” for all I know, and I suppose I do have a tomboyish look on me rather than feminine. (I got short hair or, you can just imagine Rebecca Chambers’ hair from the Resident Evil video game series lol. But yeah, not very feminine ). Anyways, I mention this because I’m not sure if this guy sees me as a woman since I don’t think I look the part, and neither do I know how to do good makeup to look better, although I wish I did. I unfortunately don’t live a lifestyle where I have chances to practice makeup often lol. But I’m aware about how important looks are when it comes to dating, or at least, for ‘first impression’ stuff. Maybe I’m just being a bit insecure?
And besides the part about him seeing me as a woman, I also wonder if he’s only trying to be friendly with me because he wants to keep a study buddy lol, because I see him as a goal oriented person that wants to achieve skills in life.
I’m really thinking hard about this because as a person in their early 20s, I’ve never went on a date before, and neither have I had a boyfriend either simply because I haven’t found a person I’m interested in yet (although I knew that I’m a straight woman because men are attractive to me lol), or see anyone I can be with on marriage, because I date to marry. Dating casually or having FWB’s isn’t my style, but I know that this also means this makes me lack in experience in the dating field.
Of course I could always just come out and say “hey I like you” at some point lol, but heh, I wanna see my options first, because me finding someone I’m interested in is actually really rare for me, so I want to make it a memorable experience with me putting in effort in a relationship, whether that will make good or bad experiences hehe. And I want to learn as I go, and this includes learning from other people’s experiences and opinions as well, so that’s why I’m here asking for advice!
