Anybody else on this sub playing this? How are you liking it?
Started playing it not too long ago and I am loving all of the attention to detail the food, ingredients, and recipes have.
The story is okay so far, I am loving how absurd it is that all units are named after food dishes lol and the fact that they are all mostly husbandos (haven’t dogged enough to see if there’s female units).
The only thing keeping me from being fully invested is my inexperience with gacha mechanics. Not sure if it’s f2p friendly or if it eventually becomes impossible to not spend.

This is the second DLC for the base game. Alright, I'll be the first to admit that I don't have much love for rogue-likes but something about Vampire Survivors just keeps bringing me back to it. Murderizing tens of thousands of monsters off the screen has never felt more cathartic. There's just something about it that I find difficult to put into words you know, and were I better author perhaps I could better describe that feeling of power you get as you stand still and watch your enemies get wiped off the face of the earth as they oh so desperately try and fail to kill you. And I know, I know, it's about the cost of a starbucks coffee and you're probably wondering why I can't afford it (or at least I think it is... or that a starbucks is affordable... I mean I don't personally know how much a starbucks costs since we don't have any nearby but the movies and tv shows always make it seem affordable and Hollywood wouldn't lie to me right...? Right?). Anyway, point is it's dirt cheap but the thing is I ended up getting the EA Bundle from the publisher sale this month and that's all I'm allowing myself to buy for the forseeable future, and I fear when I'm once again prepared for a purchase I'll end up getting something else instead of the DLC again, which would be a crying shame as I really, really would like to get my hands on this and play around with the new weapons and character combinations made available with this DLC. And who knows, I might even find that ever elusive vampire this time? That's all. Thank you for reading!

2023.05.29 06:03 ccyosafbridge My dog wants to fight smaller male dogs because of past trauma; how can I address this behavior?

I adopted my boy from a coworker. He's a mixed breed: only sure thing is that his mom is Aussie Cattle/ Lab, dad was probably a Pit mix.
He grew up with his mom and brother. Never got taken on a walk before I took him. He was always chill with his mom, but he and his brother started fighting eachother when they were around 2 years old.
His brother is bigger than him and my dog has some scarring from him.
So the problem is that he's going on walks now (I don't have a backyard). He's super chill with humans, cats and female dogs.
He's scared of most male dogs bigger than him unless they are really chill, then he just wants to play. The main problem is that he wants to chase after male dogs smaller than him and acts aggressive.
He hasn't bit any other dog (apart from his brother when they still lived together). He's been to the dog park and he just avoids other dogs while he's there, he'll sniff at them and come back to me. But the park is divided between big and little dogs.
It's only become an issue because I walk him around the same time as a neighbor walks her bulldog. And he's started tracking and pulling toward the bulldog anytime he sees him.
I'd like him to be able to safely walk around the neighborhood and not scare the little dogs and I'm not sure the best way to do it.

So I had an idea for a plot after a group has gotten to know one another:
Party arrives to a town to find a wedding is happening between a human noble and a human commoner (Important later). Nobody really says anything but if the party digs a bit they can discover that the nobles are not exactly thrilled with the idea.
The party is eventually summoned to meet the groom and he requests from them a favor, find a magic amulet that allows the wearer to alter their image to a specific preset to be presented to his wife-to-be. Not only that but when its activated the amulet becomes invisible and can only be removed by those who are aware it is being worn. If asked about it, he mentions that it was her idea so that she can look forever young and beautiful. He won't tell her but he is for it as he's fairly shallow and thinks that having her look a different way would be nice.
If the party investigates as to why they are getting married, its because she is pregnant with his child and they are having a shotgun wedding to avoid any type of rumors of impropriety. Appearances are important to this family, and they have a very distinguished characteristic that would give away any member of the family (DMs choice of physical characteristic. Specific birthmark, sharp blue eyes, etc).
Party goes and tries to find the amulet but surprise surprise there isn't one in town but there is rumors of one in a fairly nearby location such as a deceased dragon horde.
Party goes and finds it and returns to find the town under attack, they arrive just in time and save the human noble. Bride is safe hiding in a cellar somewhere, but his honor required him to defend his home. He is now trusting of the party and requests they stay as guests of honor. Wedding continues, everything is good. And the party has now made a friend.
Insert random quests for time passage and for forming a connection with the young noble.
9 months later, time for baby delivery. Female clerics are allowed into the birthing chamber, all others stay outside.
Upon delivery of the baby, its noticed that it has elf ears. The mom slaps the amulet of alter image on the child and hides the ears and gives it the distinguished family characteristic and begs the party member not to say a goddamn thing. Turns out the wife was seduced by a traveling elf at the local watering hole, got pregnant, lied about it being the nobles kid, and got the amulet to cover the evidence of her indiscretion.
If none of the party members were allowed in the room during delivery, then one of them a few weeks later will catch a glimpse of the child though a door while they are playing, getting changed, or whatever it is that babies do, and will see a quick flicker of their true image is they accidentally pop the amulet off before gravity pulls it back down.
Let the party figure out what to do at this point.

Abstract: Historical horticultural plant sales influence native and non-native species assemblages in contemporary ecosystems. Over half of non-native, invasive plants naturalized in the United States were introduced as ornamentals, and the spatial and temporal patterns of early introduction undoubtedly influence current invasion ecology. While thousands of digitized nursery catalogs documenting these introductions are publicly available, they have not been standardized in a single database. To fill this gap, we obtained the names of all plant taxa (species, subspecies, and varieties) present in the Biodiversity Heritage Library's (BHL) Seed and Nursery Catalog Collection. We then searched the BHL database for these names and downloaded all available records. We combined BHL records with data from an encyclopedia of heirloom ornamental plants to create a single database of historical nursery sales in the U.S. Each record represents an individual taxon offered for sale at an individual time in a specific nursery's catalog. We standardized records to the current World Flora Online (http://worldfloraonline.org) accepted taxonomy, and appended accepted USDA code, growth habit, and introduction status. We also appended whether taxa were reported as invasive in the Global Plant Invaders (GPI) dataset or the Global Invasive Species Database (GISD), or regulated in the conterminous U.S. Lastly, we geocoded all reported publication locations. The dataset contains 2,445,875 records from nurseries in at least 2,795 unique locations, with the majority of catalogs published between 1890-1950. Nurseries were located in all conterminous states but were concentrated in the eastern U.S. and California. We identified 19,140 unique horticultural taxa, of which 8,642 matched taxa in the USDA Plants database. The USDA Plants database is limited to native and naturalized taxa in the US. Native or introduced status was listed in USDA Plants for 7,018 of included taxa, while 1,642 had an unknown status. The remaining 10,498 taxa are not naturalized according to USDA Plants or are of varieties of native and introduced taxa that did not match to USDA Plants taxonomy. The majority of taxa in the Historical Plant Sales (HPS) database with an identified status are native (65.5%; 4,596 of 7,018 taxa), of which 393 taxa are reported as invasive outside of the U.S. Of the 2381 introduced taxa, 1,103 (46.3%) are reported as invasive somewhere globally. Despite a richer pool of native taxa, most cataloged plant records with an identified status were of introduced taxa (54.1%; 1,045,684 of 1,933,925 records). Plants reported as invasive somewhere globally comprised a large portion of records with an identified status (38.7%; 747,953 of 1,933,925 records) underscoring the large role of ornamental introductions in facilitating plant invasions. TLDR: is this play appropriate?
We adopted our unaltered, 6 month old low content wolfdog from a shelter a couple of months ago and he loves our resident dog (2 year old female shepsky mix), but sometimes their play gets a little rough/intense. He bites our other dogs back and legs and she doesn't seem to mind (occasionally she'll yip and they'll pause for a second). She always comes back for more and seems to really enjoy playing with him. She’s been matching his play style and playing rougher when she plays with him. They're also getting much better at disengaging from each other when we call them over. Our only concern is that allowing them to play rough like this for too long could overstimulate them too much (especially the puppy) and that he'll try to play like this with every dog he encounters and it's much too rough for some other dogs. Any tips? Should we separate when it gets too rough? Leave them be because they're both enjoying it and know how to moderate their play themselves?

I recently realized something about the Incredibles. I interpret it as an allegory for Nice Guy Syndrome. To be clear, I do not think that the writers intended it this way, that is simply how I chose to interpret it.
Nice guy syndrome is when you feel entitled to romantic affection for simply behaving like a decent person. The flaw in this line of reasoning is two fold. First of all, being kind, treating your fellow human beings with respect and giving them what is rightfully theirs is an expected trait of every human being. If being nice were all that it took to not only get into a relationship, but also make the relationship work, that guy or lady in whom you are interested would already be in a relationship. Second, and more to the point, no one is entitled to a romantic relationship. It is called nice guy syndrome, because most of the people who suffer from it are heterosexual men, but women and gay men can experience it too.
Nice guys syndrome is scary, as it can lead to such violent attrocities as the mass shooting committed by Elliot Rodger in May of 2014. Elliot Rodger was a now dead YouTuber and famous Incel when he was alive. Incel is short for involuntary celibate and it refers to man who is not sexually active or is not in a relationship, but desperately wants to be. In May of 2014, Elliot stabbed three men in his apartment, went to a sorority at the University of California, Santa Barbara to shot three female students (killing two), drove to a nearby deli to shot and kill a male student inside, speed through Isla Vista to run over several people with his car, had a shoot out with the police where in he recieved a nonfatal shot to the hip and eventually crashed into a parked car. Eventually, he was found by police dead from suicide carried out with his hand gun. Before committing this mass murder, Elliot uploaded a YouTube video titled Elliot Rodger's Retribution, where in he outlined his plan to kill several people, including himself. If you really think about it, Syndrome is like Elliot Rodger. Rodger held resentment toward women who would not date him and at men who got dates instead of him. Rodger felt entitled to a relationship. Young Buddy Pine felt entitled to be Mr. Incredible’s side kick. Just like no one is entitled to a relationship, Buddy was not entitled to be Mr. Incredible’s side kick. If Rodger where interested in a woman and said hypothetical woman decided to exercise her right to spurn his advances, he should have just moved on to a different woman. Similarly, if Buddy wanted to be someone’s side kick and Mr. Incredible decided to exercise his right to work alone if he so pleases, Buddy could have asked a different super for permission to be a side kick. Buddy proved himself to have genius level intellect, inventing weapons more powerful than just about any super power. Buddy could have become a super hero himself.
When Syndrome monologues about his motivations, Mr. Incredible apologises for the way he treated young Buddy Pine. It is unclear if Mr. Incredible really meant what he said or if he was kissing Syndrome’s butt, because Syndrome was a threat. I really hope it is the latter. The truth is, Mr. Incredible did not mistreat young Buddy pine at all. Mr. Incredible was nice, he stood for photos and signed every scrap of paper Buddy pushed at him. Buddy had a bloated sense of entitlement and crossed a line when he demanded Mr. Incredible accept him (Buddy) as his side kick, entered Mr. Incredible’s car without his permission and refused to take no for an answer. If Mr. Incredible did not want a sidekick, it was Mr. Incredible’s right to work alone. Mr. Incredible is allowed to reject Buddy’s request to be his side kick for any reason, no reason at all or even a made up reason. When Buddy went to go get the police, he had a bomb on him. Mr. Incredible grabbed Buddy and removed the bomb. Buddy yelled at Mr. Incredible for wrecking his flight patterns. For over a decade after the fact, Buddy held resentment toward Mr. Incredible and never realized that Mr. Incredible saved his life. If Mr. Incredible had just let Buddy get blown up, Bomb Voyage wouldn’t have gotten away, the L-train accident wouldn’t have occurred, and neither would the genocide of the super heroes.

Almost immediately after, she had issues climbing. She seems off balance, and she can’t seem The to hold things in her hand. We have to hold treats for her. She kind of just stumbles around.
She still eats fine, seems happy, still plays, doesn’t seem to be in pain. We brought her to the vet about two months ago and the vet thought maybe it was a brain tumor but it’s been months now and she hasn’t gotten better or worse.
Anyone have any experience with Neurologic issues with rats? Any ideas?

2023.05.29 04:48 yoowerethegoo My LAR Review and tips for living there

I have lived in LAR in the past and I want to share my experience and opinion to help students pick out where they want to live. In general, it's a very "okay" experience, there are good and bad points like every other dorm, but I was very happy to move out of it.
LAR is located east of the bottom-right corner of the Quad. It is behind Allen Hall, and so is next to the CRCE gym and the McKinley Health Center. The location is pretty nice, I can walk to the Union in like 12 minutes, to ISR in 10 and to PAR in less than 10. There is a bus stop behind LAR (in front of Allen) and in front of LAR, so getting around the campus is not too difficult.
The building is pretty old, which has the plus of looking cool from the outside, and a nice ballroom where there is often someone playing piano. It has the downsides of lacking air conditioner, which is mostly a problem during the first and last 3-4 weeks of the year, getting a box fan or borrowing one from the dorm if available is necessary. I have lived most of my life without AC, so it is pretty bearable for me, but the thick concrete and brick walls make it so heat stays inside. It also faces the problem of having an old heating system. It automatically turns on when it gets cold enough, and it sounds like something is crawling up the pipes when it starts. The heater works too well, and many times I've had to open the window during the winter while it runs, even with the vent always closed, as the heat emanates from the radiator.
The room size is pretty nice, I always had room for random things and food, and the beds can be lofted. A bed rail can be ordered and installed for free from the campus housing website. The mattress is pretty mediocre, there is a soft side and a firm side that is more "less soft" than firm. There is a lot of space for clothes in the two drawers, and space for additional furniture if needed. There's one half-mirror in the room attached to a closet door, and the closet is pretty spacious. A mini fridge and microwave can be rented from the dorm, but it's pretty easy to find a cheap one on Facebook or Craigslist. If you're picking a room, try to get one that doesn't face the backside, as the food delivery truck or the garbage truck comes in the morning and is super loud. Also, remember that the fire alarm will go off at some times during the year, and I suggest covering your ears or wearing headphones once it goes off as it echoes off the walls to become super loud in the rooms and hallways.
The bathrooms are shared on each wing (usually 2 male or 2 female hallways per wing) of a floor, and there is about 25 people on each wing. The cleanliness of the bathrooms depends on the people using them, personally I found them pretty gross as people leave hairs in the shower stalls or on the toilet seat pretty often, or don't wipe the toilet seat after themselves. Luckily housing cleans the bathrooms every day at around noon, however paper towels always seemed to run out at the end of each day. If there is a problem, notify maintenance and they are pretty quick to respond, usually in the same day or the day after.
The 2 laundry rooms in the basement have 5 machines, and usually one or two of them are out of order. There is a lot of dryers, but be sure to turn the dryer setting on low, as they run super hot for some reason. There's also a big sink if you want to hand wash your clothes. Also located in the basement is a music practice room and a study room.
The food at LAR is pretty hit or miss. There's no breakfast and the dining halls close an hour earlier than the others, but it also has a vegetarian/vegan dining hall. I found myself going to ISR or PAR pretty often during my second semester, as it was much better, and the meats don't have just a surface level of seasoning. The burgers and fries at LAR were pretty good though. The salad and yogurt bar is the same as PAR's, and the lines are a lot shorter. The close distance to PAR and ISR also make it easy to use your dining dollars at the stores.
I had a good experience with the people that lived there with me, there are also a lot of dorm events every month. I found myself out of my room a lot of the time busy with clubs or studying, so a lot of the downsides of the dorm weren't that impactful. Hearing someone play in the music practice room or the piano in the ballroom was always nice. The biggest part of your first year experience is always what you make out of it, and your room is mostly just a place for you to sleep or do work in, so as long as you make yourself active you'll have a good time living anywhere. If you have a problem, talk to your RA or the person directly to sort it out. If it's unsolvable, you're still able to switch rooms and buildings during the year.

Facts about me:

I have been roleplaying since 2012. Yes, I got experience under my belt, and yes, my ideas usually have really long reads, but don't let that scare you off! After the starter is off, I may lower myself down to a decent paragraph or two, sometimes three! It all depends on what I've got to work with.
My timezone is EST. I'm awake from 9am - 2am and I'm usually free unless I'm busy doing house chores, out of the house, asleep, or playing video games on my switch. I'm usually become REALLY active at or around 8pm.

Rules:
1: if you don't like 50/50 mixture of sex scenes and story, don't bother hopping into my inbox. I'm fine with sex scenes, but when it's constantly back to back, the roleplay itself gets boring.
2: Be literate. No one liners. I like to write..it's annoying when I send a 2-3 paragraph response and I get 3 lines...just...no. I am not accepting people who are just starting out! If you aren't experienced in writing or roleplaying, kindly stay out of my inbox.
3: Be okay with playing canon characters. I'm mainly doing fandom roleplays right now and it's going to be Canon x my oc. No, I'm not doing double ups. Do not even ask, because the answer will be no every time. I do not give a shit if you think that makes me 'lazy' or 'selfish', if you've got a problem, you can simply ignore or block me. Commenting on my post to bitch and whine about me not doubling up will only result in me blocking you. The ONLY time I'll double up, and if I'm confident enough, I'll only do female characters. I suck at males. Got a problem? Not my issue. Block and move on.
4: Roleplay in third person. I can't and won't adapt to first. Don't even bring up the idea of you playing first person and me playing third. Believe it or not, I've been asked this twice and that is just a hell no for me. The only time I do first, is when I'm writing into my book.
5: if you don't know how to share ideas, then don't bother messaging me. I'm tired of carrying the story when the other person doesn't help. If you've got ideas, then PLEASE speak up! Your opinion on the roleplay matters too! I'm an easy going person, and easy to get along with (dispite my rules).
6: DO NOT control my character. I control what she says, does, hears, sees, ect. I don't control yours, so don't control mine. HOWEVER, if it's highly necessary and needed, then run it by me first and ask me. Just leave me some wiggle room so I can make a decent response. Failure to comply by this rule, results in immediate drop of the rp.

Yes, I've updated my rules just a tad. I do not care if it makes me sound mean or rude, because I'm neither of these things. I'm just tired of putting these rules down for a specific reason and they go ignored because I can tell when someone hasn't read them, and lied about it. I'm just trying to get my point across and roleplay. I'm a very easy going person who loves to make friends on the side (which I've somewhat given up on making friends...only a selective few have actually gained my friendship).
Do not hop into my inbox with a simple 'hey' 'hi' 'sup', etc and for God's sake, don't message me with a 'rp?'and proceed me to flash me with your talliwhacker. Hey! 🙂 I'm looking for a fellow adult who's open-minded towards risque verbal conversations 😉
General interests: literature, art history, philosophy, psychology, languages, geography.
Music (all over the place): Seafret, M83, Philip Glass, Lord Huron, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Of Monsters and Men, Yndi Halda, God is An Astronaut, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Keaton Henson, Laura Marling, Max Richter, If These Trees Could Talk, Clint Mansell, some songs of Sia and Adele, and many other artists. If you don't recognise some of those names, it could be a plus, because we could mutually enhance our preferences in music.
Literature: non-fiction (microhistory, biographies, geography and culture); fiction as in sci-fi, mystery, thriller, subtle philosophical supernatural horror. I'm more of a prose person, though I do appreciate some poetry from time to time. I might not be really refined for it? I find narratives extremely compelling, especially when it comes to crafting the story in a way that ensures the flow of events and miniscule details that are going to build up towards the resolution. I prefer contemporary prose, althought I have done my share of getting to know some crucial classics, both for school and out of my own curiousity. When it comes to psychology, my horizons were influenced partly by Viktor Frankl, Erich Fromm, Rollo May, and some others who worked within the loosely defined existential school of thought. Philosophically speaking, my interests concern mostly ethics and aesthetics.
A bit more about me: Depression issues and anxiety; a bit socially conservative; do not play any videogames. I'm a bit of a bookworm, and I tend to talk about lofty, ivory tower ideas, but some have told me that I do possess a sense of humour (which is probably amongst the most subjective types of assessments).
