2023.05.29 07:00 alwaysinfodumping I hate job

When I first got hired at my job (server) we had a different managment than we have now. There two Managers C and K that were just horrible. If they spotted you standing still for too long they would give you a task even if it was in your job discription. The other servers would just mention their pay ($2.58/Hr) and walk away. I did the same, I knew I was miserable when I first got hired, I would cry a lot in the walk in cooler because everything just made me feel so worn down and exhausted. One day when I was hiding in the bathroom for a break (we don't get breaks) I overheard the managers talking. C and K where saying how hiring me was a mistake and now they need to find a reason to fire me. That really hurt. After that I just changed I guess. I started to spend all my time in the dinning room, talking to guest or hid in the breakroom until my food was up. Now its been two years, C left to go to a different location and K is now our general manager and we have two new managers. The two knew ones M and H are really nice and they only know me as they bubbly and sweet kid, but K doesn't and she makes sure I know that everyday.
A few days ago my younger brother had attempted to unalive himself. I got the call while I was at work, a nurse had called me because my brother was screaming to talk to me. K yelled at me for being on my phone, I tried to say that my younger brother was in the hospital, but she just yelled at me until I hung up with my brother. After K left I told M that my younger brother was in the hospital and it was serious enough that I need to have my phone at all times. M is a good manager and she left the other managers know what was going on. Manager wise the only person with a problem is K, but theres to floor leaders (supervisors) who have always made it their personal mission to make me quit have a problem.
Today I was taking over the phone orders and I was incredibly busy. However everyone knows that when I am working on a togo order (theres always one person assigned to just togo orders) you don't touch it without asking. The same thing goes for it is in the window because I leave the food there until I am able to grab me. Our supervision L who is also a server knows this. She took it out of the window and purposely used sharpe to cross everything out and didn't even check it, just put it in a bag and told me to run it. I did, but when I came back I saw an order on the table and when I said that it went with that togo she said "oh I know". SHE PURPOSELY MESSED UP AN ORDER TO GET ME IN TROUBLE. Luckily I was able to catch the costumer before they left. Anthor thing she kept doing was telling me to go clean tables even though 1. its not in my job description and 2. I was busy.
I also just can't stand some of my coworkers. Luckily I don't work with a lot of them, but there is this one women and she is just the most homophobic and racist person I have ever met. Our first time meeting she offered to pray over me to protect me from my sinner thoughts. She is also the biggest pen theif, one time my nanny gave me a really nice purple pen and she took it. I asked for it back and she kept claiming it was hers until I got M involved and sobbed in order to get my pen back. She called me a disrespectful child.
I've been thinking about quitting my job and moving on to something different. As much as I would love to say that there are good parts of my job there really isnt. I like a hand full of my coworkers and I really only like them because we dont talk just play music and stand around.

2023.05.29 06:45 RogerMiller90 Smart Keyboard Folio having increasing connection problems and failures even with cleaned pin‘s

Does anyone know, why Apple‘s Smart Keyboard Folio (not the Magic Keyboard, in case someone confuses the two) starts to have increasing problems to connect to the iPad over time and what to do about it?
I meanwhile have my 3rd Smart Keyboard Folio for my 2nd iPad and after a year or so all 3 started to have bit by bit more and more issues to the point where it finally stopped working at all to connect to the iPad when going into typing mode.
So far, not a single Smart Keyboard Folio made it over the 2 year mark and it honestly pisses me off.
The Apple Support was never of any help and I haven‘t found any sources online dealing with this problem of premature wear and tear and its reasons.
Does anyone have any insights, why these things constantly break and what exactly breaks and what could therefore be done about it?
I guess, the two 3-pin-connectors on the keyboard and on the iPad having to touch each other could hardly ever create any problem after at least cleaning them. So I assume, the problem must be in the 2 trays, where you fix the iPad in typing mode, where for some reason the iPad doesn‘t detect this fixation anymore and therefore doesn‘t hand over the typing to the keyboard?
I would really be interested, if other people, who had the same problems with their Smart Keyboard Folios were ever able to fix them or do something about it?

2023.05.29 06:40 Mindless_Language303 Women’s Insight on this type of situation.

Just want to get a female’s perspective on this subject. My wife (31 female) cheated on me (31 male) with one of her coworkers (47 male) for about 3 month they were seeing each other and she would go behind my back saying she was staying at her friends house, which I know for a fact she wasn’t. She kept seeing this guy while still with me. Acted as if I didn’t know that she was talking to another guy. Finally I found out she was doing other things with this guy because she showed up with someone else’s pants and socks. It all looked what it looked like. We parted ways but after the 4th month she came back wanting to try things out with me. I resisted for about 2 weeks but she kept insisting and bring our two kids into the whole situation. It was though trying to stay away while also meeting up with her to see my kids. I talked to her about getting back together and setting my boundaries in place but it just wasn’t the same. Now she doesn’t even want me to touch her or have any kind of intimacy together. She makes me feel as if I’m harassing her when I’m just trying to initiate the spark back up. Can’t help to think maybe she thinks about her lover. There’ll be times where she is getting kinda frisky and will play wrestle with me which by the way she never did that before. So it just make me think that’s how she would initiate with her lover and it ruins the whole situation. I just hate that she’s thinking of him while trying to be intimate with me. We did have our ups and downs prior to this happening but she is not that type of person to speak up about our relationship especially if it’s going bad. She’ll just keep it to herself and deal with it as if everything is ok. We have been trying to make things work but the fact that she did what she did just keeps replaying in the back of my head like a broken record. If I could get some insight on what goes through a females head in this type of situation I would greatly appreciate it. I’m not sure what to make of this anymore.

Idk how to check if my AIO is working Properly or not. I touched the Pipes and Pump and i felt little bit of vibration and i think it means it’s working. It’s not Loose at all. What could be a problem? Any software to check my AIO that it’s not dead or something?

2023.05.29 06:39 Reasonable_Warning My friend fell through the ice on a fishing trip, I’m not sure what I pulled out of the water

It all started Friday, when we (myself and my roommate James) went fishing at one of the local lakes. Or, at least we tried to go fishing. It's Spring but the lake we drove to was still frozen. Ice fishing wasn’t something we’d ever done, but we figured it couldn't be too difficult. When we arrived I tentatively tested the ice and it seemed solid, so we ventured further out. The ice cracked underfoot in a few places, but neither of us were very concerned. Once we got to a nice spot in the middle I sat down on one of the buckets we’d brought and started fitting our poles with hooks. While I was doing that, James set about trying to make a hole in the ice. He started by stomping on it with his foot to no effect. Then, he grabbed his bucket and began hammering away at it.
“Need some help over there?” I said in a somewhat teasing tone.
“No I’ve got it, I just need a better spot, this one’s much too hard.” he said, jumping on the spot as proof.
“Whoa don’t do that! If the ice breaks you’ll fall in and I’d have to save you, then as payment you’d have to treat me to a beer at Shelby’s.”
“Man you know I don’t like that place, it's so dingy. But as I said, the ice won’t break. I’m going to look for another spot.”
“Alright, well I’m done with the poles. Let me know if you need any help then.”
“Awesome, you can see the fish swimming under the ice over here. This is the spot, I know it!”
“Great! I’ll move our gear over.”
Suddenly, I heard a loud crack and a small splash. I looked over and saw James had his foot stuck in the ice.
“Hey you alright? Don’t move, let me come pull you out.” I said, dropping our poles and walking over.
“No I don’t need any help, I just need to pull my leg out. This water is cold as hell!”
“Yeah I bet. I’m coming over anyway just in case.”
“Nah I got it, see?” he said, before aggressively trying to pull his foot out of the hole. Almost immediately he lost his balance, and fell forward slamming into the dark patch of ice. I heard the surface give way and saw him fall into the water. I ran over to the hole and tried to see him, but the water was too muddy. Frantically, I plunged my arms into the water and grabbed randomly hoping to find a purchase on James. My arms started burning, and after a few minutes I had to pull them out. I started panicking and didn’t know if I should jump in after him. I decided I would call 911 first, even though I knew there’s nothing they could do, and then would jump in after him. But just as I dialed the number I saw a hand come out of the water. I dropped my phone and grabbed it, heaving a muddy body onto the ice and pulling it towards more solid ground. It was James, he was covered in mud and some grass, but other than that seemed perfectly fine. He wasn’t even shivering, nor did he seem particularly stressed. Once I’d helped him to his feet he stood and turned towards the hole in the ice, looking at it pensively.
“Are you alright James?” I asked. He didn’t respond, so I grabbed his arm and pulled him away from the hole towards the shore. I’d suddenly remembered that not shivering was a symptom of severe hypothermia, something that would only get worse in those wet clothes of his. I almost had to drag him away, but he offered no resistance, just kept looking behind him at the hole. When we reached the car I turned the heater to maximum, and undressed James. I gave him my jacket and wrapped him in a blanket I had in the back.
“James? Can you hear me? I’m taking you to a clinic now, there’s one only 15 minutes away.” I started the GPS and pulled out of the small recreation area, but before I could get onto the road James grabbed me and started screaming.
“TAKE ME BACK TAKE ME BACK TAKE ME BACK TAKE ME BACK”
I jumped and hit my head on the roof of the car.
“Dammit James you scared the crap out of me, are you all right?”
He let go of me, and whispered “Take me back.”
“No, we’re going to a clinic. You're clearly hypothermic, you're not even shivering but you’re ice cold. End of discussion.” I said, and then continued onto the road towards the clinic. I focused on the road, but I could feel his eyes on me.
“We’ll come back another day.” I said. I quickly glanced to my left, and was startled to see he was looking directly into my eyes.
“Alright,” he whispered, before slowly looking away and out the window.
We spent the rest of the drive in silence, until we reached the hospital. The doctor said he didn’t have hypothermia, but gave him some dry clothes and recommended standing by the heater until he warmed up. James nodded, but headed straight for the car. I quickly said thanks to the doctor, and followed James. It would take an hour to get to our apartment, so I flipped through my CD collection.
“Let’s see… I’ve got the Cars, and we’re in a car so it seems like a worthy choice.” I smiled at him, it was a joke I’d told many times before that usually got an eye roll, and occasionally a laugh. But this time James didn’t give me either, and instead continued looking out the window. “Alright” I said. “Let’s try something you like.” I pulled an Elton John CD out of its sleeve and popped it in the stereo. Elton John is his favorite, and he can’t help but sing along to Rocketman. This was the first time he hadn’t. He even sang to it when I picked him up after his girlfriend dumped him in college.
When we finally arrived at our apartment I pulled into the parking space at the back of our building. James didn’t say a word and silently followed me to our door. Once inside, he went over to the couch, lied down, and closed his eyes. I thought he was probably shaken by his experience and needed some time alone, so I let him be and went to my room. I was a bit worried about him so I spent the day at home Saturday, but he still wouldn’t make conversation with me. Then in the evening, he came out of his room and sat down next to me.
“Take me back, " he whispered.
“Take you back where exactly?”
“To the lake, you said you’d take me back.”
“Oh yeah I guess I said that. Honestly, I don’t really trust the ice after what happened, we should wait a month or so until it fully melts and then just fish like we normally do.”
“But you promised. You said we’d go back another day.”
“Yes, when the ice melts. Maybe it’ll just take a few more weeks.” I said, perplexed at his insistence.
“I need to go back.” he said, eyes suddenly locking with mine.
“You don’t need to go back, you want to go back alright? We are not going back so soon, I’d be stressed out the whole time. You could’ve died, you know.”
“So you won’t take me back?”
“That is correct, the lake is much too dangerous and you’ve been super quiet ever since we got back. I’m going out with Dale tonight, but when I get back we should talk about what happened and try and work through it alright? I’ll be back late, but text me if you need anything. Also, don’t forget it's your turn to make dinner.”
Then I left, and went to meet up with my friend Dale. We had more than a few drinks, and talked about a recent hunting trip he’d been on with his son. Dale has a way of continuing conversations way longer than you’d think possible, but because I don’t see him as much as I used to I let him talk all he wants. Needless to say, I got in pretty late and was very hungry. I didn’t see anything on the counter, so I figured James had wrapped dinner up in the fridge. Standard procedure when I’m out with Dale, who never fails to keep me out all night. But, when I looked in the fridge there was nothing there.
James loved to cook and never missed an opportunity to try out a new recipe on me. I saw his door was open, so I popped my head into his room to see if he was still up. I was surprised to see that he wasn't there, so I decided to see where he was using Find My Friends. When I saw that he was in the middle of a random forest I was confused, until I realized he was heading to the lake on foot. I was very concerned and immediately raced to my car. Admittedly, I had had a few drinks, but I’m a big guy and it was an emergency so I drove out anyway. There wasn’t anyone on the road this late regardless, and all I could think about was James falling through the ice again.
It was very dark when I arrived at the lake. It was still frozen, just as before, but I could make out a figure in the center illuminated by the moonlight. I quickly hurried to the edge and cautiously stepped closer to the figure, ice sometimes cracking underfoot. As I walked I could see a few holes in the ice, presumably caused by animals falling under. I heard splashing water to my left and saw a muddy deer somehow manage to stumble out of the water. It was dragging a dark mass alongside it, and quickly moved into the darkness of the forest out of sight. I heard a yelp as something fell through the water to my right just as I approached James.
He stood with his back toward me, staring into a large hole in the ice.
“James, I saw a lot of holes in the ice on my way over to you. I really don't think this is safe. Let’s go home. I’m worried you might not be thinking clearly, you’re putting us both in danger right now. We really shouldn't be on the ice.”
“Look,” he said, without turning.
I walked up beside him, and looked into the hole. The water was crystal clear, and I could see a naked body tangled in the weeds. Suddenly, James stepped forward and jumped into the hole. Stunned, I watched him move towards the body before the mud obscured my vision. After a few seconds his hand came out of the water reaching towards me. I grabbed it, and with some effort pulled him and the body out onto the ice, hearing a subtle crack as their collective weight bore down on the lake's surface.
“James? What is happening right now?” I said.
He didn’t answer, just stood up and looked at the body with a curious look on his face. He started to wipe the mud off the body with his sleeve, and I realized the corpse had James’ face. They were identical, except for the fact that the body was naked and James was clothed.
“What the fuck? Who is this? Why did you know there was a body here? Why does he look like you?” I said nervously.
In lieu of an answer, James turned to look at me with a confused expression. I backed away slowly and clutched my phone in my pocket ready to call 911, when, suddenly, a muddy deer emerged from the forest and began to approach James. As it got closer I saw it had a bloodied deer leg in its mouth. It moved quickly, and was next to James within seconds. The deer dropped the leg, walked over to the body, and began to lightly chew the dead doppelganger's arm. It looked at James, then back at the body and walked back to where it had dropped the deer leg. Then, it put it back in its mouth and began to chew, before looking back at James again.
“Oh, thanks.” James said.
The deer bowed its head slightly, then returned to the forest.
Suddenly, James dropped to his knees and lifted up an arm of the body. He immediately began tearing into the flesh, savagely ripping off pieces with his muddy hands and teeth. I felt vomit come up my throat, and I blacked out.
Next thing I knew I was in bed. I felt cold, dirty, and tired. When I left my room James was making breakfast as if nothing had happened.
“Good morning,” I said warily.
“Good morning! How’d you sleep?”
I didn’t respond, I could still see the body being torn apart on the ice, but the memories were hazy. I wasn’t drunk at the time but I had been drinking prior, and somehow I was back in the apartment like I’d never left. It all seemed a bit surreal, but I have never had a dream so disturbing before. I looked out the window and saw that my car was still in its spot, but I was also still wearing my clothes from the bar, which initially seemed a tad odd.
“Are you alright?” James said, with a concerned look on his face. “You know you took quite a nasty fall last night. You really shouldn’t drink so much.”
“I fell? When?” I said, touching my head and confirming that it was a bit sore.
“You came home last night after you went drinking with Dale and I guess you slipped on the doormat or something, I heard a thud and found you passed out cold on the floor.”
“Huh, you’re right I guess I did drink a bit too much” I lied. “But you know Dale, he’s just got a way of keeping you on that stool.”
“Clearly! Just know you can call me to pick you up anytime, you don’t have to stumble home all by yourself.”
“Thanks, anyway I’ve got to get going. See you later?”
“Not hungry? I’ve got some eggs here, they’re crunchy, just the way you like them!”
By ‘crunchy’ James meant he had put the entirety of the egg into the bowl and whisked it all together; this was his signature. He lived with his grandfather for a bit as a kid, and apparently the madman refused to separate the shells, claiming they were a great source of calcium. James was always trying to get me to try them, but I always declined.
“No thanks,” I said, unable to suppress a small smile. “I’ve got some errands to run, I’ll see you in a bit.”
“Alright your loss, see you later! Don’t forget it's your turn to make dinner.”
“Of course.” I said, walking out the door and grabbing my keys from the bowl.
When I got to my car I started heading towards the supermarket, but stopped beside the road once I was out of sight of the building. My seat felt slightly damp and the interior had a bit of an earthy smell, so I opened the window. I hoped that I had dreamt the whole thing, but every time I thought about what I’d seen I felt nauseous again. I had to be sure, so I decided to go back to the lake. I was paranoid that James might use Find My Friends on me, so I actually did end up going to the supermarket and hid my phone nearby, and just hoped if he did check it he would only look once. Then I booted up my GPS and headed back to the lake.
As usual, when I arrived the small parking lot was empty. I quickly headed to the lake and very carefully walked towards the center. As I walked my memories of the night prior kept flashing before me, the muddy deer dragging something across the ice, the crunch of the ice beneath my feet. Eventually I reached the spot where James had fallen. The ice was clean, no body in sight. I didn’t even see any blood. I very nervously looked down into the water, but again didn't see anything suspicious. Perhaps this should’ve convinced me it was a dream, but I’m much too stubborn for that, so I decided I would need to find a way to test James. I started heading back to the supermarket in my car to retrieve my phone, and thought up a plan.
When I arrived at the store I grabbed my phone and bought some groceries. Then I went about actually completing my errands as if it were a regular Sunday, albeit much more slowly than I would normally. I managed to stretch out my chores until 4:00 PM, then headed home to start dinner. When I arrived James was on the couch watching television.
“Wow you were gone a long time.” he said.
“Well, I had quite a bit to do. But don’t worry, I’m ready to make you some dinner.” I said cheerfully.
I made spaghetti while he watched Netflix, and when it was done set the table. James’ favorite drink is apple juice, he drinks it paired with almost any meal. So, as anticipated when I asked him what he wanted to drink he asked for it. I got us both opaque glasses, and poured him a cup filled with apple cider vinegar, myself with lemonade, then I called him over to the table.
“Bon Appétit!” I said dramatically, with a flourish of my hand.
“I’m starving, thanks for making one of my favorites.” he said.
“Well, we both had a bit of a difficult weekend, so I’m counting on you to make Shepherd's pie sometime next week.”
“Definitely! You know, you're actually a really good Italian cook! If I didn’t know better I’d think there might be a little rat pulling the strings up there.”
“Well I was classically trained by the best YouTube chefs.” I said, as I watched him down half the glass of vinegar without batting an eye.
After dinner I went to my room and left James with the dishes. Then, I sat down on my computer and began organizing my thoughts. Now I’m just waiting till he goes to sleep before I make my move. I’m going to creep into his room tonight and kill him using an axe I snuck in when I brought up the groceries. I don’t know what he is, but I do know James, my James, is dead. The only thing I can do now is kill the monster I saw eating him. I just hope the element of surprise will be enough, and I pray I'll be able to go through with it when the time comes. I just have to wait for him to turn out the lights, it'll be any moment now.

2023.05.29 06:38 Monstrum27 Spoilery thoughts on the new chapter

I get the whole thing is meant to be filler and that the characters are winding down and dealing with smaller-scale stuff now that the world-ending fustercluckery is over (til the next big thing, anyway) but the whole thing still felt....kinda weak?
Some of the choices to reflect on didn't really make any sense. Aurene, Blish and Vlast check out. Mai Trin works because she was a disaster and I felt very conflicted after her death. But Cinder?? We barely knew her or had any personal interactions beyond trying to use her as a bargaining chip.
Not to mention, what's the point on reflecting on those five characters in particular when it was Eir, Almorra and our mentors/Trahearne that the demon was specifically using to torment us. Feels like we really should've spent time dealing with our unresolved trauma with THEM instead.
And for all they built up that there was something big and sussy about the demon behind this whole thing, it was....not touched at all? It just ends up being some rando the gang beats up and calls it a day.
Unless it's a red herring and the expansion is going to deal with that instead, given the hints that demons are also gonna be involved. Just kinda waiting for the sucker punch because things ended almost TOO well.
All things considered though the Chul Moo/Yao stuff was really touching and the dinner date at the end was EVERYTHING

2023.05.29 06:36 celestial_axolotl00 Are parents supposed to be this way?

So I (22) live with my parents (67m and 63f), because they want me to until I become married and because I have disabilities that cause me to not be able to be alone. Because of said disabilities, I cannot work, so the help support me (until I am approved for disability that is). I also have a boyfriend (24) who I plan on marrying in the near future.
Living with my parents is agonizing, to say the least. They put my ideas down, always complain that I did something wrong so much so that when they are about to speak I almost expect them to say something about myself and how I am in trouble, and just feel that they are better than everyone else in the way that they live their lives (although they would never openly admit it).
Here are just a few examples of how they are:
-my parents know that I am planning on marrying my boyfriend, and when I talk about my plans they either shoot them down as “that’s too expensive, I’m not helping you monetarily with that” or “there’s no time to be thinking of happy things, remember, your father is dying of cancer” (my dad has had cancer since 2010, his diagnosis isn’t anything new, and he’s been stable with it since then. I also deal with depression myself, so it’s nice to think about a happy event like my wedding, which almost every time is shot down with how bad my dad is doing. They tell me to “be happy” but then actively make me think about depressing things)
-a family member of mine had psychologically and verbally abused me when I was 10 years old over a period of 4 months, which to this day still affects me. When I tell them about my issues, it is met with “here we go again” and “we don’t want to hear about this!”. They want me to get better but don’t want to hear about my issues that are plaguing my mind. Not only that, but sometimes when I tell them stuff it is met with “well, what did you do to deserve this?” Mind you, I was 10 YEARS OLD. At one point when I was being abused, I literally felt like I had to touch my feces, which usually is a sign of abuse. Which my parents have made me out to be the villain in that situation and made me feel even more disgusting than I already do.
-I’m adopted, and my parents let me know at least once every other week how lucky I should feel about being adopted by them. If I feel badly about my predicament, then that means I’m not appreciative of them. Which I don’t know how I should be, when my mom has let me know a couple of times that she “didn’t want me at first” which stings, but stings even more when she tells me how she really wanted to adopt my second cousin (my cousins (who was 14 at the time) daughter). “Such a pretty girl. I really wanted her.”

Barber’s Star, 2382
Captain Jayme Dawson sat at the centre of the bridge of the destroyer NFNS Anders T. Christian and grinned to himself with a proprietary satisfaction at his crew’s performance during the drill he’d just run them through; tensions along the border had been growing for months, and he’d be damned before he’d give his people anything less than their best chance at survival. Destroyer Squadron 193, part of the task force sent to defend Barber’s Star, was picketing the system and watching the hyper limit. The Christian’s closest fellows, her sister ships Invincible and Redoubtable, were each a quarter of the way around the system in different directions, millions of kilometres away. Were she to encounter any trouble, the Christian would be on her own for hours.
Dawson saw his sensors officer stiffen in her seat, and rose an eyebrow. “Share with the class, Ensign?” he asked, pulling up the tactical plot on one of his own displays…and nearly had a much more unseemly reaction. Even as she was reading out the situation in a shaking voice, he was running through his options in his mind. “Th-three light cruisers just jumped in, Sir. They aren’t broadcasting any identification—power spike. They’re raising shields.”
A corner of his mind noted how much professionalism she managed to regain by the end of her report, but he had more important things to worry about. Those cruisers were not supposed to be in-system, and clearly had intentions far from peaceful. “Comms, get word to Admiral Miranda and broadcast the standard challenge. Ops, get me shields, and bring the weapons up; looks like we won’t be able to get out of this one if they're unfriendly.”
The look he gave at his crew was the grin of a cornered wolf. When they returned it with similar expressions of their own to the beat of the General Quarters alarm, he felt a strange assurance they wouldn’t disappear into the black alone.

Admiral Carmen Miranda listened to the briefing with an incredulity she couldn’t hide even behind the habitual snacking she partook in. After she squawked her distress, the Christian had engaged the cruisers and her signal had abruptly cut off. She’d made the obvious and prudent assumption Dawson had been defeated and his ship destroyed and sent a small force out to reconnoiter the area. Expecting to find the wreckage of a destroyer, they’d found a field of debris surrounding three light cruisers floating dead in space. Lifeboats screamed for help. The enemy’s lifeboats. She’d sent her report off to FLEETCOM at Charlemagne. The raiders had been defeated, themselves…but where was the Christian?

Barber’s Star, 2495
NFMS Hera’s Dream wallowed through normal space, as was the merchant ship’s wont and lot in life. The uneventful flight had left the Second Mate Sammy Ortega, officer of the watch, yawning. He hated routes like these, and glanced at the plot with a well-hidden resentment; Nine (the creatively-named ninth planet of the system) was on the outskirts of the Barber’s Star system, and it left him and his captain’s ship vulnerably near the hyper limit for nearly two-thirds of the trip. The perfect place to get jumped by pirates. Still, though, the system had grown into a defence nexus since the War of ‘82, and it needed the precious metals Hera’s Dream carried. It also meant that Fleet ships weren’t exactly rare in the system.
None of that, however, was much consolation when four pirate ships lit off their drives and began to burn hard to intercept the ponderous fleet supply ship travelling with no protection but the light asteroid shielding that allowed it to travel at a small percentage of light speed. Even before Johny Nelson, the man sitting at the sensor console, could give his trembling report, red icons littered the plot as the pirates’ fire-control radars swept across the unarmed ship’s hull.
“They’re hailing us, Sammy,” Nelson said quietly, the shake in his voice flattening into a disbelieving facsimile of a person’s speech.
Gritting his teeth, Ortega told him to accept the signal. A slovenly face grinned back at him through the command chair’s display when they made the connection. “Cut thrust and prepare to be boarded. Any resistance will be met with force,” he stated, then grinned savagely and licked his lips. “A lot of force.”
The connection closed even while the overwhelmed second mate opened his mouth to respond; before he could turn to the wide-eyed woman at the helm to order their acceleration halted, to give in to the pirate’s demands, Nelson stiffened. “Another contact, Sammy,” he reported. “I don’t think it’s a pirate—the vector’s all wrong. And she’s fast, Sammy.”
“A fleet patrol?” Ortega asked.
“No IFF,” Nelson replied.
“Get her on the horn, then, Johny,” Ortega ordered.
“Nothing on the comms…huh? That’s weird,” Nelson said, then leaned forward. A strange dread filled Ortega; why wouldn’t she answer hailing? Nelson’s eyes widened. “She’s got her shields up, Sammy!” he exclaimed.
The plot said she had enough power to be a destroyer, but even a true warship of her class should be cautious about engaging this many pirates! On she came nonetheless, shields glowing a curiously menacing red. On she came, hundreds of thousands of kilometres from either the Hera’s Dream or any of the pirate ships. On she came, speeding toward the centre of the pirate “formation.”
When the first beams reached out, Ortega reflected on the courage of that single ship. It was a rare thing, shown by very few even within the navies protecting the disparate human planets. Even as he snapped orders to the woman at the helm, who obeyed in a sort of fugue state incurred by the stress of the situation, he contemplated the stranger’s fearless behaviour.
Like a tiger to its meat, he thought to himself.
The unknown ship flew incredibly; Ortega thought that the helmsman must’ve lived that ship, for how she pirouetted and slipped mere metres aside to avoid the pirates’ beams. Never did that ship fear their guns or numbers, and when their beams inevitably impacted, the entire bridge crew of the Hera’s Dream cringed, expecting those ruby-red shields to collapse. To their astonishment, they held strong, and hot lances of fury struck out from that unyielding bubble, rending the aether. The crew could only watch and shake their heads as this strange, astounding ship cut the pirates to bloody shreds.
Just as quickly as the stranger had shown up and begun to fight the pirates, then the fighting was all done; the pirate fleet was shattered, and the unknown ship had won. Ortega instructed Nelson to attempt to hail the stranger again to thank them, but once again their hailing went unanswered.
“She’s matching velocity,” Nelson reported, his voice filled with the awe and stunned surprise the rest of the crew were feeling. She pulled alongside close enough the hull-mounted cameras could get a good look at her when she dropped her shields.
When she did, the only sound on the bridge was that of three souls collectively inhaling.
The hull of that strange ship was irrevocably marred by the scars of some long-ago encounter; thirty holes ran clear through her, and a large gash left one side missing much of its hull panelling. Every spacer aboard the Hera’s Dream looking knew, without a doubt, that when the ship sustained those grievous wounds everyone aboard had died.
“Mr. Ortega,” the helmswoman said, finally gaining her voice. When his eyes met hers, she gave him a shell-shocked grin. “Have you ever heard the tale of Dawson’s Christian?” she asked, then pointed at the monitor. Ortega was confused for a brief moment, before his eyes returned to the feed and widened.
Painted in white lettering across what seemed to be the only surviving hull space on their side, they could see the ship’s name…Anders T. Christian. That realisation seemed to course through not only them, but also the stranger; instead of flying away, though, the hull itself began to fade from reality before their very eyes. The stunned, silent crew of the Hera’s Dream laid witness to the grizzly sight that was the view of the outer compartments of the shattered ship. Bodies laid askew, floating in the zero-G vacuum, limbs burned off by the edges of beams or torn off by flying shrapnel.
Mercifully, further detail was hidden by the dead crew’s shipsuits.
The bulkheads began to shimmer from perception as the bridge crew aboard Hera’s Dream began to tremble.
The last thing to slip from view were the bones…dead white bones of Jayme Dawson and his crew.
There are stories of the Dutchman, the Celeste and Barnham’s Pride, stories of the Horseman and the Lady at his side…

Kuiper Yard, Sol, 2500
“...but the tale that chills my spirit,” Ortega finished, “and I swear to God it’s true, is the tale of Jayme Dawson and his crew.”
The spacers sitting around the table shared disbelieving glances, but in their years since working aboard Sammy Ortega’s ship, they’d never heard him tell any tall tales. Besides.
It was comforting to know that merchants had a protector.
Even if it was just a vengeful ghost.

2023.05.29 06:33 JoshAsdvgi THE BAD WIFE

THE BAD WIFE

THE BAD WIFE

There was once a man who had but one wife.
He was not a chief, but a very brave warrior.
He was rich, too, so he could have had plenty of wives if he wished ; but he
loved his wife very much, and did not want any more.
He was very good to this woman.
She always wore the best clothes that could be found.
If any other woman had a fine buckskin dress, or something very pretty, the man would buy it for her.
It was summer. The berries were ripe, and the woman kept saying to her husband, "Let us go and pick some berries for winter."
" No," replied the man. " It is dangerous now. The enemy is travelling all around."
But still the woman kept teasing him to go. So one day he told her to get ready.
Some other women went, too. They all went on horseback, for the berries were a long way from camp.
When they got to the place, the man told the women to keep near their horses all the time. He would go up on a butte near by and watch.
"Be careful," he said. " Keep by your horses, and if you see me signal, throw away your berries, get on your horses and ride towards camp as fast as you can."
They had not picked many berries before the man saw a war party coming.
He signaled the women, and got on his horse and rode towards them.
It happened that this man and his wife both had good horses, but the others, all
old women, rode slow old travois horses, and the enemy soon overtook and killed them.
Many kept on after the two on good horses, and after a while the woman's horse began to get tired ; so she asked her husband to let her ride on his horse with him.
The woman got up behind him, and they went on again.
The horse was a very powerful one, and for awhile went very fast ; but two persons make a heavy load, and soon the enemy began to gain on them.
The man was now in a bad plight ; the enemy were overtaking him, and the woman holding him bound his arms so that he could not use his bow.
"Get off," he said to her. "The enemy will not kill you. You are too young and pretty.
Some one of them will take you, and I will get a big party of our people and rescue you."
" No, no," cried the woman ; " let us die here together." " Why die ? " cried the man.
" We are yet young, and may live a long time together.
If you don't get off, they will soon catch us and kill me, and then they will take you any how. Get off, and in only a short time I will get you back."
" No, no," again cried the woman ; " I will die here with you."
" Crazy person ! " cried the man, and with a quick jerk he threw the woman off.
As he said, the enemy did not kill her. The first one who came up counted coups and took her.
The man, now that his horse was lightened, easily ran away from the war party, and got safe to camp.
Then there was great mourning.
The relatives of the old women who had been killed, cut their hair and cried.
The man, too, cut off his hair and mourned. He knew that his wife was not killed, but he felt very badly because he was separated from her.
He painted himself black, and walked all through the camp, crying.
His wife had many relations, and some of them went to the man and said : " We pity you very much. We mourn, too, for our sister.
But come. Take courage. We will go with you, and try to get her back."
" It is good," replied the man. " I feel as if I should die, stopping uselessly here.
Let us start soon." That evening they got ready, and at daylight started out on foot.
There were seven of them in all. The husband, five middle-aged men, the woman's relations, and a young man, her own young brother.
He was a very pretty boy.
His hair was longer than any other person's in camp.
They soon found the trail of the war party, and followed it for some days.
At last they came to the Big River, and there, on the other side, they saw many lodges.
They crept down a coulee into the valley, and hid in a small piece of timber just opposite the camp.
Toward evening the man said : "All, my brothers. To-night I will swim across and look all through the camp for my wife.
If I do not find her, I will cache and look again to-morrow evening.
But if I do not return before daylight of the second night, then you will know I am killed.
Then you will do as you think best.
Maybe you will want to take revenge. Maybe you will go right back home.
That will be as your hearts feel."
As soon as it was dark, he swam across the river and went all about through the camp, peeping in through the doorways of the lodges, but he did not see his wife.
Still, he knew she must be there. He had followed the trail of the party to this place.
They had not killed her on the way. He kept looking in at the lodges until it was late, and the people let the fires go out and went to bed.
Then the man went down to where the women got their water from the river.
Everywhere along the stream was a cut bank, but in one place a path of steps had been made down to the water's edge.
Near this path, he dug a hole in the bank and crawled into it, closing up the entrance, except one small hole, through which he could look, and watch the people who came to the river.
As soon as it was daylight, the women began to come for water.
Turn, tiim, turn, turn, he could hear their footsteps as they came down the path, and he looked eagerly at every one.
All day long the people came and went, the young and old ; and the children played about near him.
He saw many strange people that day. It was now almost sunset, and he began to think that he would not see his wife there.
Turn, turn, tuni, turn, another woman came down the steps, and stopped at the water's edge.
Her dress was strange, but he thought he knew the form.
She turned her head and looked down the river, and he saw her face.
It was his wife. He pushed away the dirt, crawled out, went to her and kissed her.
"Kyi,'' he said, " hurry, and let us swim across the river.
Five of your relations and your own young brother are waiting for us in that piece of timber."
"Wait," replied his wife. "These people have given me a great many pretty things.
Let me go back. When it is night I will gather them up, steal a horse, and cross over to you."
" No, no," cried the man. " Let the pretty things go ; come, let us cross at once."
" Pity me," said the woman. " Let me go and get my things. I will surely come to-night.
I speak the truth." " How do you speak the truth? " asked her husband.
, " That my relations there across the river may be safe and live long, I speak the truth."
" Go then," said the man, " and get your things. I will cross the river now."
He went up on the bank and walked down the river, keeping his face hidden.
No one noticed him, or if they did, they thought he belonged to the camp.
As soon as he had passed the first bend, he swam across the river, and soon joined his relations.
" I have seen my wife," he said to them, " She will come over as soon as it is dark.
I let her go back to get some things +hat were given her."
" You are crazy," said one of the men, " very crazy.
She already loves this new man she has, or she would not have wanted to go back."
" Stop that," said the husband ; " do not talk bad of her.
She will surely come." The woman went back to her lodge with the water, and, sitting down near the fireplace, she began to act very strangely.
She took up pieces of charred wood, dirt, and ashes in her hands and ate them, and made queer noises.
" What is it?" asked the man who had taken her for a wife. " What is the matter with you ? " He spoke in signs.
The woman also spoke in signs. She answered him : " The Sun told me that there are seven persons across the river in that piece of timber.
Five of them are middle-aged, another is a young boy with very long hair, another is a man who mourns.
His hair is cut short."
The Snake did not know what to do, so he called in some chiefs and old men to advise with him.
They thought that the woman might be very strong medicine.
At all events, it would be a good thing to go and look.
So the news was shouted out, and in a short time all the warriors had mounted their best horses, and started across the river.
It was then almost dark, so they surrounded the piece of timber, and waited for morning to begin the search.
"Aja," said one of the woman's relations to her husband.
" Did I not speak the truth ? You see now what that woman has done for us."
At daylight the poor husband strung his bow, took a handful of arrows from his quiver, and said : " This is my fault.
I have brought you to this. It is right that I should die first," and he started to go out of the timber.
"Wait," said the eldest relative. " It shall not be so. I am the first to go.
I cannot stay back to see my brother die. You shall go out last." So he jumped out of the
brush, and began shooting his arrows, but was soon killed.
" My brother is too far on the road alone," cried another relation, and he jumped out and fought, too.
What use, one against so many? The Snakes soon had his scalp.
So they went out, one after another, and at last the husband was alone.
He rushed out very brave, and shot his arrows as fast as he could.
" Hold ! " cried the Snake man to his people.
" Do not kill him ; catch him.
This is the one my wife said to bring back alive. See ! his hair is cut short."
So, when the man had shot away all his arrows, they seized and tied him, and, taking the scalps of the others, returned to camp.
They took the prisoner into the lodge where his wife was.
His hands were tied behind his back, and they tied his feet, too. He could not move.
As soon as the man saw his wife, he cried. He was not afraid.
He did not care now how soon he died.
He cried because he was thinking of all the trouble and death this woman had caused. " What have I done to you," he asked his wife, " that you should treat me this way?
Did I not always use you well? I never struck you.
I never made you work hard."
"What does he say?" asked the Snake man.
" He says," replied the woman, " that when you are done smoking, you must knock the ashes and fire out of your pipe on his breast."
((( Meaning that his brother's spirit, or shadow, was travelling alone the road to the Sand Hills, and that he must overtake him.)))
The Snake was not a badhearted man, but he thought now that this woman had strong medicine, that she had Sun power ; so he thought that everything must be done as she
said.
When the man had finished smoking, he emptied the pipe on the Piegan's breast, and the fire burned him badly.
Then the poor man cried again, not from the pain, but to think what a bad heart this woman had.
Again he spoke to her. " You cannot be a person," he said. " I think you are some fearful animal, changed to look like a woman."
"What is he saying now? " asked the Snake.
** He wants some boiling water poured on his head," replied the woman.
" It shall be as he says," said the Snake ; and he had his women heat some water.
When it was ready, one of them poured Hot water of it here and there on the captive's head and shoulders.
Wherever the hot water touched, the hair came out and the skin peeled off.
The pain was so bad that the Piegan nearly fainted.
When he revived, he said to his wife : " Pity me. I have suffered enough.
Let them kill me now. Let me hurry to join those who are already travelling to the Sand Hills."
The woman turned to the Snake chief, and said, " The man says that he wants you to give him to the Sun."
"It is good," said the Snake. "Tomorrow we move camp.
Before we leave here, we will give him to the Sun."
There was an old woman in this camp who lived all alone, in a little lodge of her own.
She had some friends and relations, but she said she liked to live by herself.
She had heard that a Piegan had been captured, and went to the lodge where he was.
When she saw them pour the boiling water on him, she cried and felt badly.
This old woman had a very good heart.
She went home and lay down by her dog, and kept crying, she felt so sorry for this poor man.
Pretty soon she heard people shouting out the orders of the chief.
They said : " Listen ! listen ! Tomorrow we move camp.
Get ready now and pack up everything. Before we go, the Piegan man will be given to the Sun."
Then the old woman knew what to do.
She tied a piece of buckskin around her dog's mouth, so he could not bark, and then she took him way out in the timber and tied him where he could not be seen.
She also filled a small sack with pemmican, dried meat, and berries, and put it near the dog.
In the morning the people rose early. They smoothed a cottonwood tree, by taking off the bark, and painted it black.
Then they stood the Piegan up against it, and fastened him there with a great many ropes. When they had tied him so he could not move, they painted his face black, and the chief Snake made a prayer, and gave him to the Sun.
Every one was now busy getting ready to move camp.
This old woman had lost her dog, and kept calling out for him and looking all around. " Tsis'-if" she cried. " Tsis'-if Come here.
Knock the dog on the head ! Wait till I find him, and I'll break his neck."
The people were now all packed up, and some had already started on the trail. "Don't wait for me," the old woman said.
"Go on, I'll look again for my dog, and catch up with you."
When all were gone, the old woman went and untied her dog, and then, going up to where the Piegan was tied, she cut the ropes, and he was free.
But already the man was very weak, and he fell down on the ground.
She rubbed his limbs, and pretty soon he felt better.
The old woman was so sorry for him that she cried again, and kissed him.
Then the man cried, too. He was so glad that some one pitied him.
By and by he ate some of the food the old woman had given him, and felt strong again.
He said to her in signs : " I am not done. I shall go back home now, but I will come again.
I will bring all the Piegans with me, and we will have revenge."
" You say well," signed the old woman.
" Help me," again said the man. " If, on the road you are travelling, this camp should separate, mark the trail my wife takes with a stick.
You, too, follow the party she goes with, and always put your lodge at the far end of the village.
When I return with my people, I will enter your lodge, and tell you what to do."
"I take your speech," repHed the old woman. "As you say, so it shall be."
Then she kissed him again, and started on after her people.
The man went to the river, swam across, and started for the North.
Why are the people crying? Why is all this mourning?
Ah ! the poor man has returned home, and told how those who went with him were killed. He has told them the whole story.
They are getting ready for war. Every one able to fight is going with this man back to the Snakes.
Only a few will be left to guard the camp. The mother of that bad woman is going, too.
She has sharpened her axe, and told what she will do when she sees her daughter.
All are ready. The best horses have been caught up and saddled, and the war party has started, hundreds and hundreds of warriors.
They are strung out over the prairie as far as you can see.
When they got to the Missouri River, the poor man showed them where the lodge in which they had tortured him had stood.
He took them to see the tree, where he had been bound.
The black paint was still on it.
From here, they went slowly. Some young men were sent far ahead to scout.
The second day, they came back to the main body, and said they had found a camping place just deserted, and that there the trail forked.
The poor man then went ahead, and at the forks he found a willow twig stuck in the ground, pointing to the left hand trail.
When the others came up, he said to them : " Take care of my horse now, and travel slowly. I will go ahead on foot and find the camp.
It must be close. I will go and see that old woman, and find out how things are."
Some men did not want him to do this ; they said that the old woman might tell about him, and then they could not surprise the camp.
" No," replied the man. " It will not be so. That old woman is almost the same as my mother. I know she will help us."
He went ahead carefully, and near sunset saw the camp. When it was dark, he crept near it and entered the old woman's lodge.
She had placed it behind, and a little way off from, the others.
When he went in the old woman was asleep, but the fire was still burning a little.
He touched her, and she jumped up and started to scream ; but he put his hand on her mouth, and when she saw who it was she laughed and kissed him.
"The Piegans have come," he told her. "We are going to have revenge on this camp tonight.
Is my wife here?"
" Still here," replied the old woman. "She is chief now.
They think her medicine very strong."
"Tell your friends and relations," said the Piegan, " that you have had a dream, and that they must move into the brush yonder.
Have them stay there with you, and they will not be hurt.
I am going now to get my people."
It was very late in the night. Most of the Snakes were in bed and asleep.
All at once the camp was surrounded with warriors, shouting the war cry and shooting, stabbing, and knocking people on the head as fast as they came out of the lodges.
That Piegan woman cried out : " Don't hurt me. I am a Piegan.
Are any of my people here ? "
" Many of your relations are here," some one said. " They will protect you."
Some young men seized and tied her, as her husband had said to do.
They had hard work to keep her mother from killing her.
''Hai yah/ " the old woman cried. "There is my Snake woman daughter.
Let me split her head open."
The fight was soon over.
The Piegans killed the people almost as fast as they came out of their lodges.
Some few escaped in the darkness.
When the fight was over, the young warriors gathered up a great pile of lodge poles and
brush, and set fire to it.
Then the poor man tore the dress off his bad wife, tied the scalp of her dead Snake man
around her neck, and told her to dance the scalp dance in the fire.
She cried and hung back, calling out for pity.
The people only laughed and pushed her into the fire.
She would run through it, and then those on the other side would push her back.
So they kept her running through the fire, until she fell down and died.
The old Snake woman had come out of the brush with her relations.
Because she had been so good, the Piegans gave her, and those with her, onehalf of all the horses and valuable things they had taken.
"Aj//" said the Piegan chief.
" That is all for you, because you helped this poor man. Tomorrow morning we start back North.
If your heart is that way, go too and live with us." So these Snakes joined the Piegans and lived with them until they died, and their children married with the Piegans, and at last they were no longer Snake people.
1 When the Hudson's Bay Company first established a fort at Edmonton,
a daughter of one of these Snakes married a white employee of the company,
named, in Blackfoot, 0-wai, Egg.

As Promised: Teverun Fighter 11+ review - 200 mile update
I posted my initial impressions a couple of weeks ago, and said I'd post another review after a couple hundred miles. From my research, there is not nearly as much information out there on Teverun scooters as most other brands. With that being said, I will do my part and try my best to come back with an update every couple hundred miles to add to the pool of limited information out there, and hopefully help some people come to a decision on a scooter purchase.
THE PROS:
  • More than adequate top speed. It has an advertised 52 MPH top speed, and I've hit 50 MPH so far. It definitely had a little juice left in her, even if only a little. I'll try to max it out completely at some point in the near future
  • Insane acceleration. I've never accurately measured it, but the 0 - 30 MPH has to be no more than 4.5 seconds, probably even less. Obviously there are scooters on the market with faster acceleration, but not many. This is definitely one of the faster scooters on the market. The acceleration really is great. Never disappoints.
  • Fantastic range. My initial assessment still holds. You can easily get high 40s - low 50s miles on a single charge keeping it at 35 MPH and under. Even riding aggressively most of the time, I can still get low 30s out of it no problem. Zero range anxiety with this scooter.
  • Build quality is fantastic. Everything was super solid right out of the box, and has remained that way. It's a tank. The stem is pretty solid as well; very little stem movement. But I wouldn't even call it stem movement, the joints and where the stem folds is a super solid setup, it's more a very minute "flex, if that makes sense. Overall, the scooter is very solid. No issues, no loose parts/nuts/bolts, nothin'.
  • The adjustable suspension works very well. No sure how many setting there are, but it's quite a bit, and I've tested them through the entire range. It's a pretty comfortable riding experience.
  • Deck size is massive. I'm 6' 1" with size 12 shoes, and I have no issues finding comfortable placement for my feet. Scooter is definitely big guy approved.
  • The display works very well. I have no problem reading it, even during the day.
  • Adjustable steering dampener works incredibly well. Scooter feels incredibly stable at near max speed.
  • The accent lighting works very well. They're all bright, and there's lots of them, making me feel incredibly safe during night riding; scooter is extremely visible from a far distance.
There's probably some other things I'm missing, but that's about it for the majorly important stuff.
THE CONS:
  • Zoom brakes catch a lot of hate, but they have actually been extremely good so far. They work incredibly well, fantastic stopping power. My only gripe with them is that the initial "bite" is a little too strong. There's really not much easing into the brakes. There's definitely more stopping power the harder you squeeze, but there's really no way to "gently" brake, if that makes sense. Now, I understand that I'm 6' 1" and my height probably plays a factor in the brakes maybe feeling stronger than they actually are, but there definitely is an initial strong "bite" to the brakes that I wished was dialed back just a little bit. Not the end of the world, though; just being conscious of bracing your front leg before touching the front brake at all is an easy enough fix. But if anyone knows if it's possible to dial back the initial "bite", and if so, how to do it properly, please let me know.
  • The front headlight is a little lacking. It works fairly well, just not nearly as strong as you'd want it to be for night riding. Also, the lighting area is vary narrow; I definitely wish it had a much wider angle to the area it lights up. It would be a good idea to invest in a secondary light just to help with the visibility a bit. The headlight isn't useless, but it definitely leaves much to be desired.
  • My thoughts and feelings on the app remain the same. It's just so pointless. I honestly don't get why they couldn't have just added all of that into the display. Also, the accent lighting is controlled via the app, and it doesn't save your customized light settings. Everytime you turn the scooter off, you have to redo that shit. It's so damn annoying. With that being said, though, that is something Teverun could definitely address via a firmware update. I'm definitely going to contact them and see if they will release a fix to that, cause it's something so minor yet so damn annoying.
That's about all I can think of at the moment in regards to negative aspects about the scooter, but I may be forgetting one or two things. And in all honesty, those are very minor issues. There is nothing about this scooter that I can bring up where someone could say, "OK. That's an absolute deal-breaker. This scooter isn't even an option anymore." They really are minor.
That's all I have for this 200 mile update. As a whole, this scooter kicks ass. It's an absolute beast, and the build quality is fantastic. Mechanically wise, I have had zero issues with the scooter so far. I've done tons of research over the past few months, and on paper this is one the best bang-for-your-bucks options on the market; and after purchasing and putting 200 miles on it so far, I can confidently say it is one of the best options on the market right now. It holds up to what it says it will do, and then some. I highly recommend this scooter. 10/10 would buy again.
If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

2023.05.29 06:32 cluck0matic SillyTavern - Sage on POE

I've been trying different APIs with SillyTavern. I've been exclusively using OpenAI because it worked fine when I started using SillyTavern. But lately, out of curiosity, I've tried others. POE - Claude Instant seemed to be popular, but I could not get it to work well. It was shutting me off for things I couldn't even understand. It's possible I don't understand how to use it, but then I noticed Sage was an option. Never having heard of Sage, I decided to try it out. I'm honestly blown away. I can't tell if it's worse than OpenAI, and it has to be open because it doesn't seem to care what you write. I pushed and pushed to try and get it to warn me, but it never did. I didn't touch anything in the settings at all, as far as prompts go. It just worked out of the gate. I feel like I got good responses, at least comparable to my experiences with OpenAI. OpenAI is fine, but I can hit a wall there. There comes a point where it will stop you, even after you're way deep into it. Usually, I toggle the JB on and off or rewrite messages, but I never had to do that with Sage.

To be honest, I didn't even look up Sage prior to posting this, never having heard of it before. But nowI want to know if it's an open model. Does anyone know? Is anyone else using it? If not, and you have POE, try it out. I'm not sure I'm going back to OpenAI. Actually, there is one small issue with it - sometimes it just runs away and I had to stop it a few times because I thought it wasn't going to stop. Other than that, I've found it to be a solid option.

2023.05.29 06:29 Severe_Mango_966 Sensor Error on days 8-9, not user error production/design flaw

I go through this issue quite a bit. I’ve been a G6 user for 5 years, I had not used a G5 or ever used another CGM device prior. Dexcom will replace a sensor w/ almost zero hassle so it isn’t the biggest deal in the world. I just wanted to provide so insight for people that have the same issue. A Dexcom sensor is supposed to last 10 days, sometimes on day 7 but usually for me and many others I’ve seen post on social media, on days 8 and/or 9 we see the dreaded “Sensor Error wait up to three hours” message. This will be intermittent , you will usually get a sensor reading again several times 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours later. Although those readings Vs a finger prick test will sometimes show that the blood sugar your sensor is showing after the error recovery is wildly incorrect. I’ve seen a lot of response of people saying this is a “user error” due to the possible placement of the sensor, laying on it, movement etc. these are all entirely incorrect, these errors are 20% a manufacture production error & don’t have anything to do with you. If it was a case of some error you were making when applying the sensor, it would happen randomly, day 2, day 5, day 6. Not every single time post day 7. You don’t need to change anything in what you were doing if for 7 days your Dexcom was working perfectly, then your sensors all stop working on day 8 & 9, nothing you’ve done has anything to do with it. Dexcom has multiple production facilities for their sensors and they sub contract to a few different medical equipment manufacturers for the parts for the sensors before Dexcom puts it all together. There is an inherent technological flaw in the design of the sensors and the way they communicate with the transmitter, they should really have a 6-7 day life span. The way the sensor sends your interstitial glucose to the transmitter via a small wire. After 6-7 days the wire, still being in perfect shape inside your body, has residue of the same blood cells that first touched it when it went into your body on day 1. The longer a wire is in your body, the more of the wire has older blood cells along with new interstitial blood making contact with it. This is what ends up happening to the signal as the transmitter is getting several different readings from incremental amounts of blood in your body, a lot right then and some from the past several days. This doesn’t allow for the sensor to provide an accurate reading. If your like I was at first let me offer some advice. As soon as you see the sensor error, don’t wait for it give you a reading 3-4 times over 6-8 hours. Just call m, get a replacement, don’t be sitting at 1 a.m. finally deciding to change the sensor, then feeling like your have to wait 2 hours to be able to go to bed so it can warm up properly. If your getting these errors randomly, then you may need to make sure your following all steps correctly during application. But when it’s specific every time as to when they fail and it’s always the same time frame. It’s not you, it’s them. Hope this helps any1

2023.05.29 06:15 kayla019283 31 [F4M] - Looking for long term friendship - USA

I want to find a friend who I can talk to and listen about other their life. I want this to be a mutual thing. You talk and I talk. So only reach out if you will put in the effort. I’m from the US, but it’s okay if you’re in another country, it will just be difficult to stay in touch because of the time differences, and what point does that serve if we would barely talk.
Also, texting is convenient and something we could do to stay in touch, but we also need to add calls to the mix. I don’t want to hear that you need to know me first.
MUST BE OKAY WITH CALLS. I’m not making anyone message me and do calls. That’s your choice, but if you do reach out it’s because you’re going to be doing calls with me :) And I saying talk on an app.
I enjoy walks and being out in the sun, now that the weather is getting warmer. I also enjoy Korean and Thai shows. I like K-pop and my favorite group is BLACKPINK.
I’m 31, probably too old for some of you. I’m single. I don’t have children. I’m in a good spot but just need that connect with people because I lack social skills.
If you’re married, don’t reach out. It is just uncomfortable.
If these times don’t work for you or you won’t be able to talk through these times then it won’t work.
I’m in MST, USA. I wake up at 5am Monday to Friday and 6am on weekends. I sleep around 11pm each night. I would like it if we could talk throughout the day and start and end our days together.
Thanks. Send me a chat request if you want to try this. Include your location and in your own words tell me what you are looking for. I also have other forms of communication if that works best for you.

2023.05.29 06:03 WawaOnTheRun How To Per-sue Help/Diagnosis/Accommodations

Hello, I have said this in another post here, however, I heavily suspect myself of having OCD and have for almost a year now but I have not quite asked about how to peruse a diagnosis. I have read stories about others experiences, the DSM criteria, symptoms and have done hours upon hours of research and so far they have all been very relatable to me and suit me almost to a tee.
Backstory is (not really required to read to understand) my mom has brought me to two doctors where I presented a few of my symptoms, who didn’t really say I did not have OCD but have not exactly said I do. They recommended me medication (mom did not let me take them) and a gluten free diet which did not work. It has gotten to the extent I can no longer do my schoolwork if it is handwritten, barley touch things for fear of contamination or focus in class because I am constantly thinking of a "what if". Which is why I want some sort of accommodation which they said they could not do unless I have a diagnosis.
My mom thinks I am overreacting and do not have OCD (she does not know what it is) and now expects me to "do it all by myself" and has given me the permission to. We live in Canada so I am not sure if this type of thing costs something but as the title says, I would like a diagnosis so I can get proper help as none of the recommended stuff has worked at all and for accommodations so I do not end up failing my grade. Thank you for reading and any help is appreciated
Edit: Probably important, but I forgot to add I am 15, hence why I mention permission from my mom in this

Dear people of Reddit, I need you. My medical team is struggling to diagnose me. I need ideas to bring to the table, because apparently whatever I have is not very common. I am located in Minnesota and will absolutely take a recommendation on a professional to see.
Over the past few weeks I have seen 8 or 9 different doctors between the emergency room, my GP, a OBGYN, breast specialist, nurses, a PA and a dermatologist, I even saw a hematologist due to unusual blood work. No one knows what is wrong with me, how to diagnose me or how to treat me. But they all agree something is very wrong. Originally they thought Lupus and then the ER said vasculitis. When I saw my GP on Friday he asked me what I had found on google and started taking notes. I’m shit terrified.
Last year when things were bad…. but not even close to this bad I was cleaned by endocrinology. This year I was cleared by allergy. I also have a clean MRI/CT scan of my head.
My baseline of health never feels awesome. I’ve always been someone who felt “sickly” and run down. But I deal with it and don’t complain. When I have these “episodes”. Some symptoms are short lived and less bothersome than others. Unfortunately everything seems to be happening at once and I can’t function.
I am currently on 40mg of prednisone to try to control some of this while we look for answers.
-My breasts are turning purple. Blood vessels are bursting and I experience swelling and pain with this.
-vulva swelling with distended veins.
-I have problems with spikes in blood pressure and heart rate that can’t be explained and I was often told it is anxiety. It comes with a burning feeling in my chest and back. It is usually self limiting to hours and they don’t have a known trigger.
-my hands swell and turn red and purple if I get too warm or too upset.
-I don’t sweat anymore. Being hot makes me feel very sick and my face turns bright red. My skin feels like it is burning. It takes multiple ice packs and hours in front of an air conditioner to cool down to a regular temperature.
-I get stretches of unexplained chest pains. Sometimes I will feel like inside of my chest itches. Sometimes it will feel hard to breathe.
-I get stretches of unexplainable abdominal pains. Sometimes hours and sometimes weeks. I sometimes feel like the pain is generalized to a specific area like around my spleen or around my stomach. It will hurt worse if I touch the area. Sometimes it is full abdomen pain. During my last uppelower I was told there was unexplained esophagus inflammation. I have had episodes of delayed gastric emptying with vomiting during these periods.
-I get weird rashes on my arm if I go outside or get too hot. They are small round dots that turn in to open sores. They do not hurt or itch. They heal as white or purple marks. They just started last year.
-I get swelling in the left half of my face and have very limited sensation in the left cheek. With this I get what I am guessing is swelling in my tongue that causes deviation. The tongue deviation being linked to swelling is just a guess and my personal guess. Doctors have no clue(I was originally told this was anxiety)
-I get what feels like swelling in my inner ears. I feel and hear crunching and popping. Soon this pressure builds and I get feelings of being lightheaded, dizzy, smelling burning, vision changes, and cognitive decline.
-I get pain and stiffness in my neck, wrists, fingers and toes. I have numbness and tingling in my left arm with limited sensation and what feels like limited strength.
-I get lesions on the sides and back of my tongue and what feels like bumpy rashes on the roof of my mouth. This was something I noticed right before the tongue deviation started.

2023.05.29 05:55 a_lang_face Collection highlight: literally just Joy

Picture day!
This is my self-callout post collection-within-a-collection focused on Jean Patou Joy, a legendary floral which came out in 1929/1930 (sources differ) and remained in continuous production until circa 2020. I'll go over the different bottles in the order that I acquired them.
Joy EDP (modern-ish)
Not sure of the year for this one but it wasn't sold as a vintage, so I assume it's fairly recent. To me this is mainly a duet of jasmine and rose, edged with an inky, slightly decayed smell that I attribute to indoles. It's a bit waxy in a way that evokes the texture of flower petals when you rub them between your fingers. It's rich and complex, but in a muffled way, like walking on a deep carpet of plucked petals. The lights are low, your footsteps slow and susurrous, dragged down by treacherous softeness. It has a deliciously close waft. The indolic/dirty facets go right up to my level of tolerance (which is pretty low these days, so lovers of raunchy and earthy perfumes should have no trouble). Generally I find it beautiful but it can get a bit bathroomy on off days.
Joy EDT (1989 vintage)
I know the bottle looks basically untouched but I actually have managed to put a tiny dent in this one, it's just covered up by the black plastic top (which is partially hollow). Brighter, headier, and less indolic than the EDP. It has a sort of loud, 1980s glamor to it - imagine a severely stylish, power-suited woman of that era walking up to you and whacking you in the face with a bouquet. Little cartoon stars start spinning around your head. It's a bit shrill and hissy in an intentional way, as if you're getting a whiff of her hairspray along with the flowers.
This is a perfume that rewards close sniffing. If I lean in I get hints of crisp orchard fruit, soapy shower steam, and beautifully soft musks. It's loud but well-detailed, creating a dazzling 3D floral effect. I find it less elegant than the others but I still enjoy wearing a bit of it to work when I'm in a heady jasmine mood.
Joy parfum (20th century)
Hard to date these. The labels on the bottles (underside and back sticker, not shown in photo) indicate that they were made prior to the Procter and Gamble era, though I don't think they're super vintage.
So I'm the type that likes to analyze perfumes. I have very little technical knowledge but it's fun for me to try to sift through the different layers in a composition and imagine how they might work. Joy parfum completely defeats that analytical side of my brain. The only note I can really pull out is jasmine, but there's a head-spinning depth, richness, and generally otherness to the composition that marks it out as a full-bodied floral rather than a soliflore. It's less sweet than the other two, without the waxy or high-pitched facets that make them stand out. A tiny touch spicier as well, and ultra ultra smooth.
I fell for Joy parfum hard and fast. The non-vintage EDP is still beautiful and well worth trying for floral lovers, but honestly, I find it hard to go back to now. The parfum just gives me a level of mindnumbing, sensuous beauty that I don't even really expect from fragrance. I almost never go for multiples, but I had a strong, immediate, and admittedly impulsive sense that I really just want to have Joy parfum in my collection for a long time. I want to savor it, not as an everyday wear nor even as a special occasion fragrance, but as a sealed-off little world that I can dip into from time to time. So now I have two bottles, one opened and the other still sealed and corded. I like to think of them as a duellist and her second.
