Global Payments Inc. ($GPN) has recently been the subject of growing interest among short sellers in May 2023, with short interest totaling 3.75 million shares – a growth of 22.5% from the April total of 3.06 million shares. With an average daily volume of 2.01 million shares, the days-to-cover ratio is currently at 1.9 days and an astonishing percentage of only 1.5% of GPN’s stock shares have been sold short.
Despite this news, there have been some intriguing developments regarding investors’ stakes in the company which suggest that long-term prospects remain broadly positive. Glassman Wealth Services increased its holdings in Global Payments by 94.3% during Q1; James Investment Research Inc., Clear Street Markets LLC, Venturi Wealth Management LLC have all bought new positions during previous quarters whilst MV Capital Management Inc lifted its stake in Global Payments by a whopping 166.7% during Q1 as well.
In addition to these recent moves by institutional investors, there are further encouraging signs for GPN considering transactions made by insiders over quarter one disclosing a quarterly dividend that will be paid to investors on June 30th representing a yield of 1%. The dividend payout ratio stands at present -212%, however stability in payouts is often viewed positively.
Overall it seems investors continue to hold faith in GPN’s long-term aspirations despite the increased interest from short sellers along with reported loss on earnings-per-share for previous quarters being greater than expected causing fear amongst some in Wallstreet.
When looking more closely at current trends within short selling however, after eventualities such as increasing demand fuelled by momentum or greater regulatory measures against excessive on-account borrowing prop up, it is not unheard-of for decreased levels or decreases relative to overall trading volume following short-selling peaks to occur over extended timescales given relatively secure fundamentals and solid analytical reviews recognized within the financial services industry. GPN, by no means, is an exception to this trend.

This was going to become a very long post so for everyone's and my own sanity I tried to simplify it in 2 parts.

After 2022 Pre got over, you could clearly see a trailer of what happened yesterday. A lot of people were in shock especially the big franchise coachings. I was enrolled in a coaching myself which I found very randomly in Gurgaon before committing myself to traditional ones in Delhi. I was preparing on my own before like everyone after reading strategies of people from the internet. The person who runs the coaching told me one thing - "the traditional sources, books, strategies are necessary but not enough".

Anyway, I analysed the paper from 2022 Pre, and I googled every question and tried to find if those were in news in the previous year (did it by mostly typing "topic + indian express/hindu" and set a time period of previous year). What I found was that the things which were not from our regular static portion, was all based on current affairs. Even many static questions were based on current, but that is not a new thing. The more surprising thing was that questions were cherry picked in a way that they weren't directly covered by big coachings' monthly and yearly magazines. Although the news were part of their daily news coverage, but not of monthly coverage. Of course, not everything can be covered in a monthly magazine. A lot of other questions were directly from Indian Express but they happened to be a part of weekend papers. And weekend is holiday for current affairs compilers and they didn't get covered xD.

Some Current affairs questions were a step ahead from what was extensively in news. Ramanujacharya's statue was in news all year and they asked a typical question regarding his philosophy which most, if no one, was prepared for. Coachings covered that there was a new Wetlands of India portal but how many people actually opened that portal? If you did you would see the question why wetlands are kidneys of the earth. And I was pretty sure UPSC threw those questions like an open challenge to coachings. Coachings too understood it and they upped their game during the last year and they covered both Hindu and IE extensively.

Now in static portion too they asked some typical questions last year. In Polity - The immediate and foremost effect of declaring a schedule area, Contempt of Court, Deputy Speaker these were some questions last year which had some extra element to them (in options) which was missing from traditional books. But they could be tackled from elimination then. But you could see what was the demand - go one step ahead.
Ancient history is always hard so I wont go much into it. But people focus a lot on Spectrum. I remember two questions from last year. One was about Europeans buying/leasing lands from rulers. In Spectrum (if i remember correctly) there is a mention of Albuqurque and East India Company but it leaves out the details of Dutch taking lands on east coast. What does UPSC ask? They ask about the Dutch. Another question about 'Fanam'. This thing I found just a couple of months ago while reading spectrum. In the same chapter of Europeans, there is a mention of minting coins called Pagodas. Since coins were always important for history, i googled pagodas and what do I find in first line of its wiki page? You're right - mention of Fanam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagoda_(coin)))

You have to understand one thing about UPSC is that there are a lot of people competing and everyone is putting efforts into it. At the end of the day, it is just an exam which needs to filter out people. If 10 people are reading the same thing, I cant ask a question to them which almost all of them can answer. If i need to select only one of them then I need to ask something one step ahead. I refer to these as 'differentials' (which make a difference). Like I mentioned, coachings understood that what was going on and they focused a lot on covering everything from current but now since everyone did that, UPSC needs to go one step ahead to get that differential factor. All of us will try to improve and cope up with the new pattern of UPSC but always remember this - if everyone is doing it then you need to do that AND more xD.

I know it is absurd, crazy and funny too but this is the way it seems. You can also say people can clear it without thinking this much and OP has himself not cleared the prelims so who is he to tell all this. Again I'm repeating I'm a nobody and these are just my observations.

I’ve reported a resident in Cobblestone Cove that has a home school business, contrary to the HOA rules concerning operating a business out of your residence. I’ve called the Hampton Cove HOA in Owens Cross Roads, sent the HOA several emails, pics of kids and traffic in front of the house when “school lets out”, and a pic of the resident’s Facebook page showing that she charges for her daily homeschool. Additionally, others have complained to the HOA as well. The HOA has not responded and now the resident is gearing up for another summer homeschool class. I think the resident and her family are being protected by the HOA. The resident claims to be a big shot within Rivertree Church and I also wonder if there’s a connection between the resident, the HOA, and Rivertree Church? I’m not sure what to about the lack of response from the HOA with the glaring evidence that I have sent them and the additional neighborhood complaints. The homeschool adds to traffic and congestion in the neighborhood and again, is against the HOA rules. It’s kinda ironic that we will receive a notice about blowing grass in the street on the next day after you cut it, but the HOA refuses to enforce the no business rule in this case. In my opinion, all of the Board should at least tell the Cobblestone Cove community why they fail to act… Any advice on how to proceed? Would a lawsuit against the HOA help the matter? Maybe I should call the local news to get some attention on the matter? Could I report the resident to the department that checks business licenses?

Hello. So this was my first attempt and honestly, i thought only i found it tough and UPSC is like this only and felt i didn't prepare enough. Now I'm seeing everyone is bashing UPSC for becoming too random and too deviant. I'm also hearing that it's become too deep and reading news paper daily with static revision is key. I kinda dug deeper and found little hints of these feelings for last year paper too. But not as this much. I've decided ki I'll change my whole strategy and focus on newspaper and indepth analysis. But it feels like even that won't be enough for next year. I'n an impulse I've decided ki I'll huge CAT just to give myself some hope.
I've studied BA- HEP (History, economics and public administration) and did MA Sociology. Idk what future prospects i have with these degrees. So please suggest some career alternatives or other exams i can write
