It would be more effective to strike down the second swordsman seeing as his speed seems to be the heart of their strategy. That is, their strategy of caging me in their strikes and forcing a strike in; a standard in bouts like this with an uneven amount of fighters.
However, that was the obvious move here. They might be expecting me to do so. I won't do it. Instead, I will hunt the first one.
They didn't give me a whole lot of time to think. Hot on the pursuit, they swung their blades wildly, their footwork flawless and their swings calculated. Their skills were very clear by their fighting style, and it was obvious I wasn't against amateurs.
Their strikes forced me to dodge them or block them with my blade. I continued doing this for a while, not giving my intentions away with my eyes or movements. And now, the third swordsman was also on me, striking with precision and control. I was against three on my own with little options.
It was until the first swordsman swung his blade from above straight down towards me. If it landed, it would most definitely kill me. My eyes caught on to the swordsman on my right as well. It was the second swordsman, swinging his blade at me. And my eyes also caught on to the swordsman on my left, the third. I was trapped, with nowhere to dodge or maneuver out to. If anything, their teamwork was certainly laudable. To barricade me like this with nowhere to move, it was a sure-fire strategy. However...
In one swift movement, I swooped under the first swordsman's strike, and swung my own sword from below like a bat. My blade struck his neck, his head lopping right off. The lifeless body followed, falling onto its knees, and then onto the ground below, blood spurting out uncontrollably.
The two who were now before me didn't show it on their faces, but I could certainly tell what they were feeling. From how tight they gripped their swords, and their eyes which screamed bloodlust, I could tell they were fuming with anger.
And yet, I couldn't feel an iota of empathy for them or for what was lying on the ground now.
"What are you two gawking at him for!? Kill him!" their leader ordered from behind.
He himself wasn't involved in any of the combat, yet he still managed to order his subordinates as if he were completely oblivious to what had just occurred. If anything, his unyielding confidence was slightly laudable.
It seemed I wouldn't be getting a break from these things until I killed them all.
The two rushed for me, swinging their blades in unison and in a calculated fashion. I avoided their strikes by sidestepping or by moving backwards, but they were hot on the pursuit. Just like last time, they were trying to corner me and strike me down. Their odds were greater last time, and they failed miserably.
Occasionally, their blades would nearly hit me, so I would have to intercept with my own and block.
Their teamwork was phenomenal to say the least. If they were amateurs, their strikes wouldn't compliment each other to such a high degree. They superseded for each other and covered for each other. They knew exactly where the other would strike from and how.

"W-What...?" The second swordsman was gobsmacked.
What, indeed. It wasn't a card they expected me to play. I knocked the third swordsman off his balance before he could move away from the second swordsman's strike, resulting in the spectacle before me.
"What are you doing!? You hit me!" the third swordsman exclaimed.
"You were supposed to move...! I-I..." The second swordsman then looked at me, "Damn you! You tricked us!"
It was only necessary. If I had killed one, there would be two remaining. However, since I only injured one, I ensured only one remains, their leader. This is because humans are empathetic by nature.
I looked at the second swordsman who was now on his knees, treating the injured third swordsman.
I trusted in the fact that the second wouldn't be able to grapple with the fact he injured his companion and would treat him. In other words, I used his loyalty against him.
Now, will they allow me to go on my way, or will their leader still stand before me.

My name is Celvira (I don't post terribly often and haven't bothered to try and change my default username), and I am here today to present my conversion of FFXIV's Dark Knight (with 3 subclasses) to DnD 5E for those interested in trying out a new version of SilentSoren's take on the job. Speaking of SilentSoren, this edit couldn't have been possible without them, as I liberally borrow elements (sometimes word for word!) of their hard work, so hand your player commedations to them instead of me. Disclaimer - My DnD group is wrapping up a campaign at the moment, and I haven't gotten around to properly playtesting this class. I tried my best to make the job fun, engaging and balanced, but it is entirely possible that I may have missed the mark in some areas, so please let me know of any outstanding outliers!
My original intent for Dark Knight was a hybrid-spellcaster that functions more or less as an offensive 5E Paladin. Meaning, intead of bolstering ally's with aura effects and direct healing, my take on Dark Knight utilizes self-sustain and Temp HP abilities to aggressively hold the frontline in combat and shield their allies with barriers. Additionally, even if FFXIV's Dark Knight doesn't utilize the concept outside of pvp, I wanted to include the theme of HP-sacrifice to fuel certain abilities, which is inspired by traditional Dark Knight gameplay. Several abilities will require the Dark Knight to expend hit points or hit dice, which hopefully gives it a nice risk/reward playstyle without feeling like a liability. And lastly, I used the One DnD Paladin as a reference for this homebrew. I know most classes have gaps in their class table, but I appreciated that One DnD is allowing more classes to have features or ASI's at every level, which makes progression feel much more sastisfying.
If anyone is curious about why I made certain changes to SilentSoren's work (which can be viewed here - https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-LsDqsNbupzeLhkTIcPv), I've listed a few of my reasonings and thought processes below. So without any further delay, let's begin!
Class Features
Dark Arts. This feature is likely the one to cause the most headaches from a balancing standpoint. Similar to SilentSoren's Well of Darkness feature, my Dark Knight uses a point system to activate not just abilities, but spells. This change means Dark Knight doesn't rely on spell slots to cast spells, but rather the spending of Dark Arts points (1 point equals a 1st level spell, 2 points for a 2nd level spell, and so on). This could, at higher levels, potentially be used to cast a decent amount of 5th level spells, but I tried to take steps in mitigating this by limiting how many Dark Arts points my Dark Knight can have at once (SilentSoren's DRK has 20 points at max level, my DRK has only 10 at max level).
Also, my version of Dark Knight can, with the exception of 1 of the subclasses, only cast spells at their lowest level. This was a second measure to avoid Dark Knight abusing their lack of spell slots to frequently cast higher level spells.
Darkside. I took SilentSoren's concept, but twisted into Dark Knight's version of the Barbarians Rage feature. Being able to leech hit points from enemies is Dark Knight's primary means of survival at lower levels, which isn't as powerful as resistance to physical damage that Barabarians get from their Rage. Due to this, I felt Darkside having a flat 1 min duration felt right from a balancing standpoint. Being able to crit on 19-20 was less for damage purposes (though it definitely helps!), but to give Dark Knight a higher chance to trigger more healing from their attacks.
Blood Price. This is my equivalent to SilentSoren's Burning Blood feature. Honestly, mine is inferior in every way, even without factoring in the hit point loss mechanic. Burning Blood is an insanely powerful ability, especially since it requires only a mere bonus action to activate. However, I felt it was too strong, and allows SilentSoren's Dark Knight to aggressively and carelessly throw out spells/spell-likes with little sacrifice from the player. I believe Blood Price is more balanced overall, even if it sees little play at early levels.
Stalwart Soul. Ribbon feature similar to Paladins Divine Health feature. Being immune to fear effects is nice, but certainly nothing terribly special.
Oblation. A copy of SilentSoren's The Blackest Night feature. I felt Dark Knight having to wait until level 7 to get a support ability was a bit too long of a wait, so I reduced it to level 5. Additionally, I changed it from a bonus action to a reaction to allow more flexibility in its use, and due to my Dark Knight having significantly less Dark Arts/Well of Darkness points to draw from, which I felt was enough to justify the alteration.
Shadowskin. Mostly a thematic addition, as plenty of races have Darkvision and a feature granting resistance to a damage type isn't as uncommon as you might initially think. Just a cool way to give Dark Knight some iconic, edgy flavor.
Reprisal. Another potential balance concern due altering the action economy by allowing more reaction attacks. Thematically, Dark Knight was introduced as the parry tank, and gave the job bonuses to parrying attacks. For those who weren't around during Heavensward, the role ability Reprisal was a Dark Knight exclusive oGCD that could only be used immediately after parrying an attack. I loved this concept for Dark Knight, and absolutely wanted to include it for my edition of the job.
Mechanically, this was my answer to SilentSoren's Dirty Fighter feature. However, depending on your DM, Attacks of Opportunity could be very, very, rare to see, as some DM's like to "dance" around players with their monsters to specifically avoid triggering them. To get more mileage, I changed the triggering condition from an AoO to a missed hit, and reduced the stun condition from a failed to prone. Since you could stack damage to guarantee a stun using SilentSoren's feature, you could potentially gimmick a DM's encounter, so I felt prone was more fair overall. Please let me know if this skews the action economy too much!
Blackblood. Bloodspiller is basically my answer to Paladins Divine Smite feature, and leans heavily into the HP sacrifice theme Dark Knight is known for. I was hesitant to add this at first, but I felt it was simply to thematic not to add. Initially, I toyed with a 1d10 damage bonus, but felt expending a resource and 10 hit points to potentially roll a 1, on top of disadvantage on attacks directed at you, could lead to very frustrating moments. At the end of the day, I felt a flat 10 bonus to melee weapon damage was fair considering the resource/defensive costs required to activate. Basically, Paladins can nova better than Dark Knight with their smites (especially since you can choose to expend it on a crit), but Dark Knight can achieve higher sustained damage using Blackblood.
Quietus is more or less a direct copy of Ranger's Whirlwind Attack, which can be buffed at the cost of additional HP.
The Blackest Night is an upgraded Oblation that borrows concepts from the Shadow of Moil spell. Due to its spell-like nature, it requires Concentration to maintain, and will realistically have a maximum duration of 3-5 rounds, which I felt didn't devalue Shadow of Moil terribly much. Also, the damage against enemies (again, borrowed from Moil) was more or less a way to include the "Dark Arts" feature from FFXIV without getting overly complicated.
Mired Empathy. Borrowed from one of SilentSoren's earlier Dark Knight drafts. Essentially a ribbon feature, its there to give some flavorful, edgy out of combat utility.
Dark Mind. The same of SilentSoren's version, but with the ability to remove the charmed condition with a resource. Unexciting, but strong.
Improved Shadowskin. To be honest, I'm still struggling with this one. I wanted a thematic way to represent your Dark Knight being affected by the darkness they wield, which has warped and twisted their body in some way. After all, utilizing darkness should have some repercussions. But being a high-level feature, it has some potent positives (inspired by the undead) to offset a small, negative penalty.
Poison immunity isn't terribly special, the Con ASI was borrowed from Barbarian, and the hit point recovery was inspired by the regeneration feature of several undead creatures.
Salted Earth. Another earlier concept of SilentSoren that could be removed with little impact if it proves too troublesome. Circle of Death is a 6th level spell with a huge radius, but its damage isn't terribly impressive, so I felt giving Dark Knight essentially a free blast spell once per rest would lean into its offensive, unholy nature vs the Paladins beneficent Aura Improvements at level 18.
Living Dead. Again, borrowed from an earlier SilentSoren draft for Dark Knight. A level 20 feature should feel powerful, and I feel both my and SilentSoren's abilities are potent in their own way. Mine lasts longer with a higher upfront resource cost, but can only be utilizied once per rest. SilentSoren's can be used to nearly indefinitely avoid death, though requires an upkeep of resources. I think SilentSoren's Living Dead is ultimately the stronger of the two, but I felt it was a tad too dominant considering how many Well of Darkness points their Dark Knight can draw from. Also, I believe my Living Dead is a bit more accurate to the FFXIV version, as its a powerful, long CD invuln that you can rely on to avoid death, but only sparingly - I don't believe it should be a feature that can be spammed so easily, but I digress.

Phew, that took a bit longer than I thought it would! I just wanted to present my reasonings for my changes, additions, and alterations I made to the Dark Knight job, and I certainly don't want my version to replace the existing one. This was purely a passion project, as I deeply love Dark Knight as a class - its lore, questline, and gameplay mesh so well with my interests, that I immediately fell in love all its spiky, edgy goodness. I even have a Dark Knight tattoo IRL to showcase my obsessive fanaticism.

Hey everyone! My good mate is visiting home from overseas and we are both keen to try something new. I was planning on making a tea for us and probably 1-2 other friends. After nearly 20 years in the Army, they have finally broken me with IPPS-A. I’m in a unique situation since I’m not co-located with my battalion and admin folks, so I imagine it’s easier for normal battalions, but what fresh hell is this?
A list of questions: - Why do I have a unique identifying number in this system that is separate from my SSN or DODID? - Wtf is an “absence request?” I’m not “absent” I’m on leave. An absence request sounds like something my mom should sign to get me out of school - Why is the entire format counterintuitive and not at all aligned with previous leave processes? - When did we start requiring full itineraries for leave again? Why? Wouldn’t it be more efficient to make me wear an AirTag? - Why is it so hard to implement systems after websites/SOPs are updated so Soldiers have the basic information needed to submit the right stuff on the first try? - Why does it have a button for “My Orders” if none of my past orders have been added? Will they ever be added? Will new orders go there? - On that note, why did this thing go live without have basic, bare minimum stuff up to date on it?

I've been trying to S rank The Howling Aces and I'm losing my mind. It's all incredibly easy until the last phase where the stupid dog won't stop tilting my screen. I literally can not comprehend it and It's nearly impossible to beat for me? Any tips?

I’m new to the whole server rack stuff so it’s hard for me to know which stuff will universally fit or if I’m going to have to drill my own holes to make it work. In addition it’s near impossible to find any side rails that are under 12 inches to support that chassis but I did find these I could disassemble and the one part of it looks to have a front and back cage hole connection I could use to Mount front and back so seems like it might be less than 12 inches which I could then mount as side rails:

Anyone tell if I’m in the right direction for making this work? Switches I’m not worried about because the weight of the ears can hold the small chassis but this case I wouldn’t risk the ears holding it once I fill it up. I also didn’t want to do shelves to sit it on because it has rackmount ears which gives this a clean look.

Anyway, I always confide in my best friend about relationship stuff and he had concerns from the beginning. He was subtle about it but he always tried to gently push me to realise that something wasn't right.
These things include but aren't limited to, big age gap (I'm 21, they were 32), us getting close very quickly, me being unable to go to my partner for emotional support, a disconnect from what I feel like when I'm without my partner and when I'm with my partner, me never blaming them for anything (even when they were explicitly and even admitted to being mean), the fact that nearly every time I vented about a problem i had they would somehow make me feel bad about choosing to vent to them, long distance, I never saw them ever etc etc.
The way we broke up is a whole mess too, they practically begged for us to stay friends and made it clear that this break up was out of caring and love. they were distraught and I was comforting them the whole time, and I agreed to stay friends because I cared about them. After that, it was clear to both of us that this wasn't a break up, but maybe a step back from our relationship or something.
After a while, we were texting and in the middle of it they disappeared. They've done this before so I assumed they needed space. They came back after 18 days and said that they didn't want to talk to me and that they had moved on from our relationship. I was devastated and hurt, but as usual, I put them before myself and I apologized to them and tried to let them go with kindness. But after a few days, I desperately wanted closure so for the first tme, I put myself first so I texted their phone number for the first time (we were talking on a messaging app before that). They said that this was inappropriate for me to message them and they proceeded to remove me from everything and deleted all our texts. This event was what broke the "spell" for me. I realised I hadn't done anything to deserve a reaction like this
So after the spell broke reality hit and it hit hard. I feel dumb for letting this happen to me. I feel confused. I feel like a monster for making them react that way. I feel inadequate. I feel disposable I feel scared that anyone I talk to may just leave me if I say something wrong. I'm questioning everything about what happened. I feel guilty. I feel childish for still liking them after all of this. I feel weak for being hurt.
Idk what the point of all of this was, maybe I want validation? To psychoanalysis my self, I think the reason I keep excusing their behaviour is cuz I don't want to believe that someone who "loved" me could hurt me like that. I want support too but yeah idk. Thanks for reading my weird story

I have a couple credits from IU and a community college near me that I would like to use at WashU, if I can. Does anyone know if WashU accepts dual credit?

I’ll try & keep this short. 35m been a truck driver last 3yrs. Met someone who I see a future with. Thinking of marriage & starting a family next year sometime. However my gf would like me to be home more often which I understand. Before driving I was in the automotive industry as a service advisor at a dealership for almost 10yrs & before that I was a technician for a independent shop. I honestly don’t want to go back into that industry. I has two bachelor degrees, BA in Mass Communication & BS in Health & Human performance. I haven’t done anything with either degree since graduating in 2012. I don’t really know where my skill set would benefit/fit. I am also currently looking for a career counselor to help guide me in the right direction but I figured I would ask here too. Thanks internet friends.

The amount of control i have over allies with this system is unlike anything i've ever seen in any RPG before. You could put this in any RPG with AI teammates and i feel it would make them immensely improved.
Setting automated orders and conditions for the actions done both inside and outside of battle is something i cannot get enough of. It's absolute control that in a way bypasses AI stupidity by giving you full access to the parameters, and i can even see ways the system could be improved by adding alternative conditions and more control over specific targets.
Why does no other game give us access to this kind of control over our teammates actions? Final Fantasy or otherwise, it makes very little sense to me. Surely somebody can appreciate and improve the worth of the gambit system to make it even more dynamic and allow even finer control.
Bummed that this system has to be locked to a nearly 20 year old game and never used since.

Let me make something very clear. I'm very good at english. I can write essays easily. I am extremely skilled in humanities. But, I am terrible at math. I don't know how to multiply some numbers together. I don't know what 8x9 is. I can't divide. I could never do multiplication, so I ended up using the lattice method. I have nearly flunked every high school math subject. Despite when I did my best and tried to study it, the most I got were 70s. I am horrible at math.
Is it possible to learn coding? Or are some people not equipped for this?

Im tired of this shit i cant keep living my life spending hours with my head in my lap worried about a team scoring a point or not. I cant keep living my life coming to work first thing in the morning already in a bad mood because i lost alot of money the day before. I cant keep treating people who really love and care about me like shit because i allowed the gambling to alter my mood. Im done. Im mentally drained and just ready to get my life back on track. Being late is better then never. Glad im taking this big stepping stone. Trust me if theres anyone else out there listening or reading this. I love you , and so does god. Please say a prayer to him ask him to forgive you for being so foolish. And do what it takes to stop yourself from wasting another hard earned dollar to some rich scumbags who could careless about how hard you worked for that money they gladly taken from you. Its hard, but to me it was nearly impossible to still have gambling apps on my phone and not ever have the urge to place a bet. So today i had to delete it!
