What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?

1. Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

Iv been reading threads over the last couple years of people claiming there medication wasn’t working. Iv been taking adderall (TEVA-20mg) for over 15 years (not everyday) and have never gained a tolerance. Over the past 3 months every script I receive has not been effective. To the point where this morning I doubled my dose, which if I had done 8 months ago would of been WAY to much, but I still didn’t feel anything. Iv recently taken some that a couple friends have givin me and they worked normally, so I just don’t understand. Is there a definitive answer to why this is? Is it just hit or miss now? It just seems crazy that I pay the amount I do for my doctor visits and prescriptions and I feel nothing at all. And when will this go back to the way it was before the shortage…?

Hi there,
Have you had any success at a tattoo removal business preferably in Massachusetts? I have from my elbow to my shoulder blade tattooed (in various colors) and am looking for a reputable place to have them removed.
I had a consultation with Removery in Boston, they were confident in removing all of the black work and optimistic on the color work, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on threads in here on Removery. I’m willing to travel out of state for the right place.

I know this is probably the wrong thread or whatever, I'm so bad at reddit but I just need help so if you can handle this being here please help me lol
My game has suddenly and unexplainably become extremely unplayable and I cannot figure out the issue. Out of nowhere, my game is running at around 5 or so frames per second. I have a 3080 and played the entire game on ultra without DLSS in 4k on a 144hz monitor with little to no visible lag. Maybe some frame drops in town but that's about it.
Now suddenly I'm at 2-5 frames. The odd thing is, my GPU is acting like the game isn't even running. It's like idling at a cool 56 degrees celsius, should easily be sitting at 75 or higher. I'm wondering if my computer is putting diablo in the background? I messed with the max FPS settings and nothing. I've turned on and off DLSS, I've tried the NVIDIA boost thing off and on, windowed mode and fullscreen windowed toggled. Nothin. I guess I could roll back the driver? This didn't happen till like 3 or 4 launches of the game after updating the driver though, so I really don't think that is it....
Let me know if I'm missing anything or if you have any ideas. None of my stuff is maxed out, in task manager at least, in the performance tab, my RAM, CPU, GPU, all of it is just kinda chillin at less then 50% usage, way less most of them.

We had an overwhelming ‘yes’ to our question about whether Bristol should take part in the upcoming protest.
We’ve also heard those arguing against, and understand your points and concerns, but we’re going to take a stance of solidarity with other subs, third-party app developers and users, those in need of accessible options, and the principle of fair notice and fair pricing for these huge changes that u/spez and the admins are imposing.
We’ll go dark in the early hours of 12th June, and we’ll stay dark for a minimum of 48h. We’ll be keeping an eye on the state of play in ModCoord and may continue the blackout for longer.

QOTD: What is your favorite summer activity?

We recently got moving quotes from UPack, PODS, Allied, Bekins and North American. We contacted Atlas who never called us back. We had trouble initially scheduling with United/Mayflower. Mayflower could do a video quote early next week but we wanted to make a quicker decision.
I have posted a few threads about our move from Texas to Delaware. We are moving very little furniture (although the furniture we are moving is high value). We also are moving a lot of porcelain and glass figurines that are very valuable.
We have some stuff we must take in our one SUV: 2 cats, computers, clothes, important papers.
This is made even more complicated because we need to find and buy a house and so stuff will need o be in storage, most likely 2 to 4 months.
We have done in state moves before but never a 1500 mile move. We are older retired folks so doing the loading ourselves or doing a self-move was not an option.
Although I've used traditional movers before, I wanted to look into container options.
Upack - I got a Relocube quote online that was about $2800 for 2. When DH called them for a date about a week later the quote was $4200. The Upack trailer was for less. However, they could not offer any storage at all. I don't know if they just don't offer in DE or if their storage was full.
PODS - The quote for one 16' POD was fine, just over $3100. Monthly storage was about $400 after the first move. However, we would have had considerable charges to get everything packed, loaded and unloaded. Even more critically we would have wanted o send our porcelain by that method as we would have had no protection for breakage. So we would have needed to have taken our cats and other stuff in the car to Delaware and then either driven back to get the porcelain or fly back and rent an SUV to take the porcelain to Delaware. That would add a lot of time and cost.
Allied - Allied's binding quote was a little over $14k We had some furniture that it were unsure if we would take or not so we asked for quote both with and without that furniture. I think the Allied quote was with that furniture, but not sure. I asked for an updated quote without that furniture and having received it yet. The quote was fairly detailed and broke everything out. They were going to crate our glass table top (but not the legs) and our 75" TV. They had a fairly detailed inventory. So, Allied was basically fine to deal with but not as responsive on some things.
Bekins - Their binding quote was a few hundred dollars more than Allied. They did this via video. There was no inventory provided. They also listed the services but did not break up any of the charges. I think they were going to crate our large elliptical and maybe the glass table top. I think they likely included the furniture we weren't sure if we wanted to take. I've asked for clarification and a quote without that furniture. I have not received that yet. I was not impressed by the quote not breaking out costs . They also say 90 days storage is included but I may not need that much and since they don't break out costs I have no idea what it would be for less storage.
North American - North American's binding quote without any of the uncertain furniture was just under $11k. With that furniture it was about $2 more. This was an entirely different experience than Allied and Bekins. Allied (sister company) was overall pretty good in coming to my house and doing the inventory. North American was at an entirely different level of competence and detail. The inventory is more complete. I was required to give a list of high value items (those worth more than $100 per pound). The representative looked at those items very carefully. They will be crating the glass table top and the legs as well as several of the largest, most valuable porcelain pieces. North American initially did the quote without any of the furniture that I was uncertain about it. Then, I got an individual quote for adding each of the possible furniture. Finally I got a quote for the move with all the "maybe" furniture in it. This made it very easy for me to decide not to take any of the the furniture I was uncertain about.
North American will store our stuff locally until we have an address in DE. I will pay them for packing and loading when they pick everything up. Monthly I will pay the storage fee. Once we get a delivery address in Delaware they will either collect the balance by credit card or I can pay on delivery with a cashier's check (what I will likely do).
I then added up all the components for what PODS would cost us. Of course some of that is a guestimate in terms of packing and loading and unloading fees. But I estimated those things based upon some local moving we've done. And then I estimated the cost to come back here and get the porcelain for the second trip. The result is that doing PODS would end up costing very close to the North American quote or maybe a $1000 or so less. And, it would be far more hassle.
The result is that we are likely going with North American. They were the most professional and detailed in heir work. I get near instant email responses from the person I dealt with there. They are taking the most care with my valuable items (yes, I am paying for it but that is fine). And, they are the least expensive overall even when comparing their quote with all the possible furniture to the Allied and Bekins quotes.

I graduated this semester.
I was checking Calcentral recently about my grades.
I realized one of my professors had given a final grade of C.
I checked Bcourses and saw they had inputted my grade for a final project as a 0 when I actually submitted via email. I have the thread for the email that I can show for proof as well.
I emailed the professor and the GSI and there hasnt yet been a response.
What are my best courses of action? Do I contact the student advocates office? office of the registrar? my advisor? the department chair?
Also this professor has been very finicky this semester -- inconsistent with grading policies and assignments and expectations and when I pointed it out he immediately shut it down and attacked my character

I was reading comments on another thread about keeping Mounjaro a secret and had so many thoughts. I started going to weekly therapy when I started MJ as well, so I think that has influenced my perspective. I am one keeping this a secret. My husband and my mother know because they are my emergency contacts and I want them to be aware of any medications I am taking. I also know they are both supportive of me doing what it takes to gain control of my health.
I have been fat my entire life. I have vivid memories of being 10 years old and going to a dietician because my doctor said I was fat. I have been on a diet of some kind forever. My mom feels awful and guilty for that, she feels somewhat responsible for my unhealthy relationship with food. We’re working through it, but I have a long history of being treated differently for being fat. I was the fat friend, the fat cheerleader, the fat chick that some guys only talked to because being fat also meant I had big boobs. I was the person who people said “you would be so pretty if you just lost some weight.” I say all of this because I feel I have been significantly judged my entire life due to my weight. I am an extremely active person - I have run 10 full marathons and I workout 5-6 days a week. Food is and has been my downfall. People are ALWAYS shocked when they find out how active I am, many people have commented they would never expect someone like me to be so active.
I say all of this to say that when you’ve lived your life like I have…… you’ve heard all of the well meaning comments. Your weight has yo-yo’d and people always have to comment about it. It’s hurtful. It’s judgmental. I am keeping MJ a secret because I just don’t want to hear all the well meaning people make shitty comments about my choices. I have heard enough for a lifetime.

I've used the first two masks on this list and KleenGuard is my favorite. It was my replacement for the first version of the Bluna KF94s after they changed the nose wire. Fits the same, but sturdier and has more layers with adjustable noodle earloops. I was concerned about the in-mask concentration, though, so trying others now. I'm excited to try the QuQu K99 mask which I've never heard anyone talk about, but I found on Aaron's sheet.

I don't worry about this teme as much as I used to which itself kinda worries me. I can't help self diagnosing. I keep reading reddit threads with testimonies by sociopaths. The old „sociopaths wouldn't care and be self-aware” argument doesn't make me feel better, its a myth. This very post is probably just me again trying to gain sympathy to make myself feel special or important.
Am I manipulative, abusive, sadistic, judgmental, unemotional, uncaring, incapable of feeling love or guilt, not viewing others as real living human beings? Or do I know the answer yet I keep pretending to myself?
I obsess about lacking empathy and emotions. I'm pretty sure I had those when I was very young but who knows at this point? Like how can I even tell if I have empathy? I'm so confused about myself.
For example when I go through the posts here and read the suffering people go through, I just don't seem to care. In fact I think I may be relishing in it...I cannot express how I wish for the opposite to be true. Its just fucked up.
How can I feel happy and content with myself if really am just a cold, calculating asshole with no empathy, no love for others, only capable of ruining their lives? I'm contemplating not bothering to fix my unhappiness just so I don't go out into the world and do all these miserable things to others and become a real asshole. I used to comfort myself with the idea that I might be still developing and things will sort themselves out, or just be depressed combined with OCD, but I'm worried it isn't so...
It may sound 1984-dystopian for many but I seriously wish somebody could just look into my mind and just tell me what the fuck is going on.

Inspired by the question about a barista "workshop". For context, I'm in tech.
I've historically used take home assignments as a hiring tool on the theory that it's more representative of actual work than whiteboard coding and can be evaluated a bit more objectively. Based on the thread about having the baristas work a shift before hiring them I'm wondering where that is on the spectrum from "completely legal" to "obviously illegal".
The assignments are structured to take at least a few hours and some candidates have taken weeks to complete them. Of course, some don't complete them and ghost us and for all I know they're still working hard on it.
They are deliberately work-like problems, but we don't have any use for the actual work output.
